Forum News and Forum Rules / Game give-a-ways
« on: August 23, 2017, 06:32:15 PM »
Hi SWBFgamers,

I have a pile of duplicate steam keys from some recent humble bundles that I will give away through RaffleCopter.

These include Game of Thrones and Walking Dead titles as well as some others.

As we have done before, you will need an account here to receive the key by PM.

The give-a-ways will start this Saturday, and if I can find the time, a new title will be available each day until they are all gone.

The keys should work, but if for some reason you don't have steam, don't know how to activate a key, or the key doesn't work, sorry, but I can't help.

Important Notes:

-I don't care if you enter a real email address
-one entry per member per game
-don't enter your real name, enter the SWBFgamers account name

PS2 for SWBF and SWBF2 / PS2 emulator info
« on: August 20, 2017, 06:19:40 PM »
hi Led if the players want to play from eu or japan regions they can use a high end pc using the emulator/ntsc ps2 swbf1 iso/network startup disc that i sent to you and drunken master. or they have to get a mod chip in the client ps2. or use a soft mod ps2 with freemc boot installed on the client memory card http://www.ebay.com/itm/Free-MCBoot-1-953-FMCB-Playstation-2-64MB-Memory-Card-ESR-HDL-OPL-MORE-/272776758649?hash=item3f82c30579:g:gA8AAOSwSlBYtJAH using the freemc boot they can use a ntsc disc/iso download. booting the game from a usb stick or burn a new dvd and play on the usa servers like player from germany Pinglucker does. there is some difference in the tv from pal compared to ntsc. using the freemc boot make the client pal ps2 work with the ntsc disc/iso on a usb stick and makes the ps2 region free.

Forum News and Forum Rules / Board cleanup
« on: August 04, 2017, 10:32:24 AM »
Hi SWBFgamers,

I am archiving inactive boards and removing board moderators for them.  If your access to a board has been cutoff and you think you may need access again, let me know.

I am removing board moderators for clan boards that have been inactive for a year or more.  If you are in that clan, your board access will remain.  If you would like moderator access back, just let me know.

Forum News and Forum Rules / NFO server discount
« on: July 01, 2017, 06:20:56 PM »
NFO has discounted their 2 core systems running windows.  We renew for 6-months at a time, so when we renew, we will save $15.  Our renewal is due in November.

We will now pay $105 every six months ($17.50/month) and now we get 12000 GB of transfer per month.  (We only use about 80 GB  ;)  )

(Additionally we run the master server at an additional $8/month)

We run the following servers:
SWBF PC  2-3 servers
SWBF PS2 1 server
SWBF2 PC  1 server
SWBF2 PS2 2 servers
DNS (for PS2 DNAS)
WWW (1 server, placeholder site for Addons)

I had talked about perhaps shutting down the gameserver and hosting from home, but I will continue to keep the game server going for a couple of more years.

Thanks everyone for your support

Forum News and Forum Rules / SWBFgamers.net
« on: June 13, 2017, 08:11:35 PM »
I have purchased the domain name: www.SWBFgamers.net

There is no www service at the moment (I will probably have it point to here), but I have made a pointer from teamspeak.swbfgamers.net to our teamspeak server (no more needing to memorize those numbers...)

I am also working to support Aradam's work for his shell for ftp and autoinstall of addon maps, so ftp.swbfgamers.net will be operational soon.

If anyone has any more ideas of what we can do with it, let me know.

Maybe I could have (should have) used one of our other domains for these things, but I'm not sure...

« on: May 28, 2017, 08:50:25 PM »
Our domain name (SWBFgamers.com) was up for renewal in January 2019, which seems like just around the corner  now...so I have renewed it for 10 more years after that!  So we are going to be around one way or another until at least January, 2029

Public Square / PS2 player award
« on: April 09, 2017, 02:54:24 PM »
I think we have enough PS2 players to warrant a badge just for PS2 players.  Anyone care to whip one up?  I need a large (not too large) and a thumbnail (refer to current awards for sizes) in png format.

Forum News and Forum Rules / SWBFdepot is now open!
« on: April 08, 2017, 10:00:27 AM »
SWBFdepot.com is a file storage service with similar functionality to dropbox--but just for the SWBF1/2 community.

Modders and asset compilers can request an account from me to upload their assets to a private folde, then create anonymous share links to their assets/maps/etc.

What you should know:  I host this from my home with a QNAP home server.

What this means:
If it goes down, it could be from a power outage at my house or it may mean my IP address has changed. Let me know if it is not accessible--if my IP address has changed, I just need to update my DNS record and all will be back to normal.

This also means that all transfers count against my data limit for the month, so I ask that you don't make mass downloads to back up the file server.  I will back it up locally, so it will be a safe system.

Finally, this also means that you will not be bombarded by advertisements when you just want to get an asset.

For asset uploaders:  The asset link will need to be modified for the correct port number.  There appears to be a bug in the QNAP software that inserts a wrong port.  Just let me know and I will help out.

Thanks to DEVISS for uploading a bunch of assets already.

I have a 10 year lease on the domain name www.SWBFdepot.com, so these assets will be around for a long time.  I can renew it again in 10 years if SWBF/internet/computers as we know them still exist!  After that, well, I will be a pretty old guy, but we can talk about that later  ;)

SWBFspy: Internet Master Server Discussions / PS2 DNAS project
« on: April 06, 2017, 08:11:09 PM »
hi Led this is what i gather so far for this dnas server

What you'd need to run the DNAS replacement is a webserver (apache2 for example)
running php and SSL. You'd need three IP addresses to run a full server,
one for each gateway. The possibility to install your own ssl certificates is a must.

Debian Linux, just that I enabled the old ciphers for Apache2
There's one thing to keep in mind nowadays.
PS2 is a quite old system and doesn't support modern ciphersuites for SSL.
so you need to make sure that old weak ciphers are enabled if you run a DNAS
replacement server.
For Apache2 this can be done with the following directive in your site's configuration:

SSLCipherSuite ALL

I didn't spend the time to analyse which of the ciphers is the least weak
and is still supported by PS2. It's a good idea to restrict the directive
to the DNAS site and not to use it on the entire server.

Another very important thing is that your webserver MUST be able to send
HTTP/1.0 headers.
I know that this is a problem for modern installations of nginx for example.
The DNAS replacement server is currently running on a VPS on internet.
It has 3 IPs (one for each gateway). System is a current Debian Linux,
just that I enabled the old ciphers for Apache2.
you need php to run it. Thé Best is tout as No23

i looked on youtube and there are lots of tutorials how to setup this stuff on linux.
