Title: SWBFgamersUpdate 1.0 Public Beta Release
Post by: Led on January 03, 2012, 04:28:18 PM
Please note that this is a BETA release.  There will be changes!
(but if you download this, the next download will be much much smaller :)  )

SWBFgamersUpdate 1.0 is now prepared for public release.
http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=410

Only one stock file (mission.lvl) will be changed in your game installation.  No other files are modified.  It will not affect any standard on-line or single player games in any way.

What it does:
provides new maps, new units, new game play modes.

It must be installed correctly to run.  Nothing goes into Addon, so there is no map limit, and nothing
needs to be un-installed (unless you need room on your hard drive).

-----------------------------------------
To Install:

After you extract the file:

STEP 1)

Drag the folder called  "SWBFgamersUpdate1.0"

into this location
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\

so that it looks like this:
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\SWBFgamersUpdate1.0

NOTE:  Windows Vista or Windows 7 may look different, like:
C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\

STEP 2)

go into this folder
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\SWBFgamersUpdate1.0\001-modified mission.lvl file for SWBFupdate 1.0

and click on

InstallMission.bat  (note: some people report that the batch file does not work for them; if this is the case, use the manual install method below)

OR you can manually copy and paste the mission.lvl file from
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\SWBFgamersUpdate1.0\001-modified mission.lvl file for SWBFupdate 1.0\
to
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\

Now you can join the SWBFGamersUpdate Servers for the public Beta test.

to go back to your game like is was,
click on UseOriginalMission.bat located
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\Copy of SWBFgamersUpdate1.0\002-Backup of original mission.lvl file\

OR you can manually copy and paste the mission.lvl file from
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\SWBFgamersUpdate1.0\002-Backup of original mission.lvl file\
to
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\

------------------------

Then, look on-line for a SWBFgamers.com server that has "x" as the era.

It will say you are missing the file, but join anyway, if you have the update installed.

Here is the patch 1 for playing in jetdroid server:
http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=419

Edit:  Thanks for the beta testing.

Fixed Items:
There are some issues that I have been able to fix already.  Players could not jump on Mygeeto.  I have fixed that.

There was an issue with clones vs empire that made it not playable.  Fixed it.

-------------------

Items that won't be fixed:
-issue with maps such as out of bounds issue on Felucia and various collision issues on maps, AI pathing, etc.
Since we are using converted SWBF2 and user made maps (credits are included in the download), there is nothing I can do to fix these things.

(There is also a lack of victory timer in Mygeeto, but tickets still drain.)

----------------------
Items that will be worked on:

-I have ideas for about 100 more missions, and some more sides.  If anyone wants to help, let me know.
-Sleepkiller will see if he can localize map names for us.

Yes.  It will not affect any on-line or single player games.!

I love the selection of maps, but you can't jump on Mygeeto.  Is this a bug or is it meant to be like that.  Also,  the timer did not start after capturing all the CP on Mygeeto, and i had to wait for the reinforcements to get to zero before the next map would load.  Other wise i did not see any other problems.  Good work on the update to all who contributed and thanks.

Hi Dbiz,

Thanks for the bug reports.  I noticed those things too, and I know the jumping issue is fixable.  I can look into the victory timer issue.

When the full release comes out, there will be many many more options than in the beta release.  The popularity of the beta release lets me know if this is worth continuing (I think it is) and what issues there are before we make it a full release.

Please note that if you have this beta release, the full release will not be anywhere as big of a download :)

Can you tell us what your operating system is?  XP or win 7, etc.

Also, can you find your mission file that was installed and tell us the date on the file?

Lastly, do you know what version of SWBF that you use?
CD version (oldest)
BestofPC version
DVD version

thanks

Thanks.  If you mission file is completely gone, it will crash.  In the place of your old mission file should be the new one dated 1/3/2012.\

If you are still having problems, place the stock mission file from this directory:
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\Copy of SWBFgamersUpdate1.0\002-Backup of original mission.lvl file\

into the spot where the mission file goes, which is
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC\

If anyone has successfully installed the update, please let me know what version of SWBF you are using:

original CD version
Best of PC version
Fan Favorites I
DVD version
------------------------------

A couple people are not getting the update to work, and I am trying to figure out if there is a difference among the versions.

I can confirm that CD version + XP works, and DVD version + Win7 works.

I've installed the update (after 2 hours of downloading) and have a few problems; I can play on the server with the new maps and units i tried but the maps dont show up on the server screen and the new units in game dont have names:

http://www.xfire.com/profile/gdh92/screenshots/?view#120681585
Also no new maps show up on the single player instant action screen. I'm using Vista 32bit/BOPC version of game. Hope some of this helps. :)

Hi GDH92,

Everything looks right.  At this point in time, the maps wont show up in single player.  I think Sleepkiller can help us take care of that part.

Even though it says you are missing the map, you should be able to join those servers.  Give it a whirl!

ah, cool, i didn't know you were on PC servers.  Let us know your playing name :)
Title: Re: SWBFgamersUpdate 1.0 Public Beta Release
Post by: tirpider on January 05, 2012, 06:42:46 PM
Today was my first time on a PC server and my greeting was a flying droid and a welcome rocket from Dbiz. :o

I use the same name as on PS2, just tirpider.

I'm still getting used to the mouse and keyboard again.

Title: Re: SWBFgamersUpdate 1.0 Public Beta Release

heh   ;)

You can use a controller for PC, but we run with aim assist turned off.

I will keep an eye out for ya :)

Post by: tirpider on January 05, 2012, 06:53:53 PM
I'm waiting for an adapter for my dualshock.
But the mouse/numpad has a better feel.
I'll probably do both off and on.

heh, the auto aim. Sometimes it wont let go of a target and you can't turn (ps2.)
Best to just aim for heads.

Regarding the update:
Is there anything special that needs to be done to get the update into the dedicated server?
And can folks without the update join if it's hosting a common map?

(I got another machine that hosts my ps2 server and thought I'd put the PC server on it for good measure.)

-edit nm. it dawned on me that this is beta, and the answers I seek are obvious. (no and no)
Please forgive my tired.
Title: Re: SWBFgamersUpdate 1.0 Public Beta Release
Post by: Led on January 05, 2012, 07:09:09 PM
oh, sure you can host.  You will need the dedicated server software, and need to use batch files to start it (anyone care to program a GUI for me ?  :) )

The update must reside inside of LVL_PC just like for players.  The could play common maps, but they would crash for other maps.  It all comes down to what is in mission.lvl.

I can explain all of that.  (here is the link about batch files, etc:
http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=1375.0 )

And really what you need is the for the server and players to all have the mission file and the other files in the right spot.

I bet you could host this on PS2 also.

Just let me know if you need any help.

Hello everyone!
Buckler, couldn't u make a torrent with files, please? That's more easy-to-use for you and for downloaders.

P.S. I dont speak english very well.

Hi Herve,

Thanks  for coming to SWBFgamers.com.

I wanted to bring people here to get the file and information, in the case that they had any questions and to see what else the site has to offer.  Also, since this is a beta release  there will be some updates and I wanted to make sure people know where to get them.

The other reason is that I just don't know much about torrents :)

(I got another machine that hosts my ps2 server and thought I'd put the PC server on it for good measure.)

I was under the impression Lucas Arts puled the plug on hosting servers for the PS2 with this game.  Unless its for BF2,  which i still play occasionally and would like to know what server you host.

BTW sorry about  the welcome rocket  ;)

The server that is out now requires the Jet droid patch http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=419 (http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=419) The readme in the download tells how to post it in game.

It does? I didnt see anything in it untill i put a map in addon, and it wasnt jabbas palace, and i was able to play jabbas palace before and after that. Jabbas palace came with the disc, which was bought in like 2009, so i didnt have to do anything.

I was gonna download this but I saw a post that said the maps don't show up in singleplayer! That's all I play!! Also What maps are in this? I don't mean "SWBF community maps and conversions" I mean what are the names of the maps. Also does this work on mac? And lastly when is the new version coming out that reduces the file size?
Title: Re: SWBFgamersUpdate 1.0 Public Beta Release
Post by: Led on July 11, 2012, 05:17:27 PM
I don't see that I have made a map list.  So, SWBF2 conversions plus other maps will have to work for you right now.  I plan to add the new maps that have been converted since I have been working on it...tantive, etc.  A single player version may be possible.  We will have to see.

When will it get done?  When I have time to work on it again.  It has been a busy summer.

I was hoping for a larger community effort  ;)  but since it has not materialized we have to make do with the pace of my own progress.

I think maybe it is time to ask for help again.  What I need next are some cool units and skins, and some balance to various sides.  Any contributions are welcome.  I could use some compiled sides that are as compact as possible that use new skins and weapons (i.e. leave out the vehicles).  I need to know the name of the unit to call up (make it non-standard name so I can also call standard units too), a picture of the mod/skin, a description of the skin, and a complete list of credits.

For archival purposes, I also want the side assets.

Using that information, I can make mission lua for all the various maps in different combinations.

(we could really use a new era too  ;) )

I might be able to help with balancing custom side ODFs and weapons. However I'm taking a break from skin modding for a while.

I'm hoping someone can post a weapon model assets pack, maybe collected some models from GT and other various sources. I've been looking for some good weapon msh replacements.

If you make some more specific requests we can work on what you have in mind.

You should update the "stuff that needs to be done topic".

Title: Re: SWBFgamersUpdate 1.0 Public Beta Release

Yes there can be.   But basically I need some help.  We need balanced unit mods and new skins to be made into efficient side files that I can load.  With tirpiders new msh's and Regent's skins, and sereja's  weapon releases, we are just some creative minds and tapping keyboards away from getting thing up and running again.

Care to lend a hand?

Basically it is a version control system, it let's you save changes to something and it will keep an older version of the file. It is commonly used in the open source community due to the fact it syncs up your computers one with the main one being stored on the web on a site like http://code.google.com/ (http://code.google.com/). The sync part is the bit I think could be handy for this situation.

With the release of the LUA, it can be incorporated in SP.  I still consider it "beta".  It was a proof-of-concept and it did indeed work.

If you are asking when I have time to work on it, I can let you know in a couple more years.

If you want to make your own massive mod, go right ahead.  You can use the developers kit that I made as a starting point.
