SWBF 1 and 2 Tournaments / SWBFGamers 5v5 First Round
January 27, 2014, 02:40:07 PM
It's all go now gents.

Here are the matches for the first round. The team representatives should get in touch with the other team representatives to make them happen. A list of teams and their members can be found here. The representative is usually the first person in the team.

Remember only Round 1 matches, if you do a match from another round prematurely I may discount it and send it back for a rematch.
#22
If you're reading this you are presumably wondering what this map is. The answer to that is simple, this is the map you'll be needing to compete in the SWBFGamers 5v5 that is happening.

Your second question is probably why do we need a mod map, I thought it was stock sides and Cloud City? Well, yeah you are 100% correct on that it is stock sides and stock Cloud City. And this is exactly why we need this map. It prevents people from using cheats such as radar or see through walls to gain an unfair advantage.

Download it here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Byk6aK__xf0uRWdLQ0dyemZta28/edit?usp=sharing

Either me or Led will most likely have a local link up in a jiffy.

All these rules are up for discussion. Feel free to dispute a rule, suggest something be reaffirmed in a different manner or even for a new rule to be added.

Team Rules
All teams shall be required to conform to these rules.

 • A team must have a unique name to go by.
 • A team must have a unique tag to put in front of their members' names. The tag should be related to the name of the team.
 • A team is required to have a representative that will serve as the face of the team. They will be responsible for organizing matches with other teams.
 • Each team can have no more than five members. If a player can't make a match the team is permitted to pull in a substitute. The substitute may be any player that is willing to participate. (Even one from another team.)

Rules Surrounding Mods
Any mod is permitted to be used, provided it conforms to the rules set out below.
A mod may not:

 • Directly provide a tactical/strategic advantage to a team (For instance, radar.)
 • Provide a excessive combat advantage to a player (For instance, see through walls/wall hacks.)
A mod may:

 • Re-skin a map and or sides for the sake of making the game conform to oneself's aesthetic preference.
 • Modify explosion/laser effects.
 • Replace the stock reticules with ones more fitting to the player's liking.

Layout of a Match
Both teams are expected to work out together a time to have the match before a deadline set by the match admin has elapsed. In the event of the teams failing to do this a tournament admin will reach out to the teams to find out why they failed to have the match. The admin based off whatever info he ascertains may decide to allow the teams more time, award the match to one team or declare the match a draw by default. (In event of a draw neither team gets a point for the match.)

Once it has reached the scheduled time for the match to begin both teams have ten minutes for all five of members (or substitute) to join. Once that time has elapsed he match begins. If one team fails to muster five players they can choose to concede then and there or fight without a complete team. A game may start without a match admin present, however if the match ends in a dispute it may just be sent back to a rematch.

You are not permitted to leave the CP you spawn at until the match has begun. You must also not fire any weapons, throw any grenades or deploy any items. (Mines, health kits, etc)

When the match begins it is normal SWBF, save a few things. A team may have no more than one of each class at a time. You should work with your team to determine what classes everyone will play before the match begins. The admin at the match is allowed to decide what happens when a team has two classes of the same kind in play at once. They may award the match to the other team, warn them to change classes or ask the other team what they want to happen.

Tournament and Match Admins
Anyone may sign up to become an admin. Do so visit here http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=7451.0, put forward a good application and don't just ask to become one. State which kind you would like to be as well and if you are capable of attending matches. There are two kinds of admins, Tournament and Match.

Tournament Admins have various powers and abilities during the tournament. They may:

 • Promote people to Match Admins.
 • Decide the outcome of a disputed match.
 • Remove a team from the tournament.
 • Ban a person from partaking in the tournament.
 • Make a change to the tournaments rules.
All these powers are only to be used after talking to other tournament admins. If a tournament admin is found to be corrupt they can be removed by the tournament host. In addition they may also exercise any power granted to a match admin or any power granted to them in another section of the rules.

A Match Admin is the most important admin and I am hoping we get a few of them. They are expected to be objective and not to voice their opinion on what the match outcome will be. Their role and powers are describe in Layout of a Match.

Disputed Matches
When a team accuses another team of having defeated them unfairly the match becomes disputed. When a match is disputed a tournament admin will get in touch with both teams via the private message system on the forums. Any public flaming/trolling, posting of evidence or just making a scene about it may cause your team to have a weaker case.

If you wish to dispute a match contact a tournament admin. Submit any evidence you may have in your first PM as to avoid complications.

Well that took me a while to write up. I probably missed something and made a million typos. Feel free to discuss the rules, but do so in a civilized manner.

Signups are now closed and unassigned players have been randomly assigned. Unfortunately one player got left out, I have put him back under unassigned and anyone who needs a substitute should look there first. I encourage anyone with interest in the tournament to signup as a substitute themselves. There is no rule saying that a team must use players off the list, but it may help them to have a nice organized list.

Even better, get a tablet! What can you do on your computer you can't do on a good tablet besides PC games?
Get out. Now.

No I'm serious. Never say that again.

Hi there you! Remember me? That guy with out a life who made mods? What you don't? I've only been gone a couple months.

I've been missing online SWBF lately and I really want to play a good game of it again. Led has informed me there is a night happening on the 30th. Which I will try to make. But this brings me to my Tunngle Sucks thing.

It isn't that their service sucks or that it is bad at what it does. It is just the fact that it sucks that we have to use it. Now we don't have a whole lot of choice there is Openspy which we could potentially get working or there are other VPN services. Both of these require a software download and split the already small community. (Does the later matter at this point though? Is SWBFGamers all there is left?)

But here is my idea. Direct Connections. If I remember correctly they worked on OpenSpy without the need for a download. So we get Direct IP working again and we get a way to play MP with out having to download anything at all.

So vote Aye only if you're in favour of this being done and would actually play it. (This would involve a decent amount of work. No point it trying to do it if no one wants it.) Vote Nay if you don't think it is a good idea and feel that Tunngle is enough. (If any of you actually vote for that I will be surprised.)

While I am sort of on the subject a couple people have asked me for my copy of the Openspy source.
I am so sorry that I haven't gotten back to any of you sooner. (I seriously am.) The thing is I haven't documented anything I did to get it to compile, what libraries are needed and what needs to go into the database. I have it in random scattered notes (Which I don't entirely know where they are.) and in my head. Basically it is a bigger task than it seems. Not that big, but real life doesn't care about that and I have to prioritize what I do. (Granted a lot of what I do is play games. But I enjoy doing that so it takes priority.) If I can find the time, I'll upload it here with some documentation. And I also just keep forgetting.
So yeah that was a little explanation of why I haven't given it to any of you yet.

Please forgive any misspellings, inconsistencies or any form of mistake in this post. It is late (2AM) and I am tired. (I'll probably look at this tomorrow and wonder what I was thinking writing it so late.)

Scummies / Goodbye Folks
September 19, 2013, 08:00:32 AM
Well, I've said this before but the circumstances are much different now so this time I really do mean it. I won't be active on the site anymore.

It's been a pleasure (most of the time) being here. While my mods were far from the best or perfect, I do hope you all enjoyed playing them. I certainly had fun making them; it's what made me come back at the start of 2012. To release SWBF SleepKiller Edition (It got renamed to SWBF Unleashed). Then I went on to convert a whole bunch of SWBFII maps (which would not have been possible without Tirpider's brilliant tools and BattleBelk's knowledge).  Form there if I remember correctly I made various lighting mods for CC, made Asteroid: Mining Facility, the April Fools mod, Bespin: Zombie City and finally The Battle Royale.  I also helped out a whole bunch of other people with their mods and did a bunch of smaller projects.

A quick explanation about OpenSpy; Yes I have it working slightly. But ask yourself this how big is the community? If we tried to transition over to a new service at this point it could kill MP forever. Although I haven't played in months, so I have no idea what state the MP community is in. It could be already dead for all I know. I don't have a whole lot of motivation to work on it while I am moving onto other projects.

If you need to contact me my E-mail is the best choice. There should be a little icon under my avatar you can click to get my E-mail address. It's been fun folks. So long.

Forgive if this seems to have rambled on a lot. (Guess I have been reading too many of Tirpider's posts.)

For those of you who don't know (around 99.99% of you), I recently have been working on getting the OpenSpy source code working. Now I have it working to some extent. But I need a list bugs that everyone encountered while using OpenSpy so we can work on making it more SWBF friendly and hopefully get our own server up.

Here is what I need from you. If you remember a bug that you encountered please post about it here. If you have any idea what might be causing it, that would be helpful as well. Try to be as descriptive as possible.

Other Games / I think EA just won me over...
August 14, 2013, 04:51:46 PM
They're doing a Humble Bundle... EA is doing a Humble Bundle!

Go buy it now and get access to a whole bunch of great games for a very low price.

https://www.humblebundle.com

EDIT: I just saw they aren't even taking a share of the profits, it is all going to charity. EA definitely is trying to change their image. They are certainly winning me over...

Released Assets / The Battle Royale Assets
August 03, 2013, 06:21:52 PM
Here for your enjoyment most esteemed reader is The Battle Royale assets. The entire project folder just as I left it after the final build. (Although I added in the expanded credits by Unit 33.) Why? Because I won't be making any more mods, I simply don't feel like it any more after TBR. It isn't due to a lack of ideas of what I want to work on, I have plenty of those.

So this is my last gift to the community. Here you have the effects, the map, the sides, etc. Go nuts. Just remember to look in the credits file for who made what.

Now I'm not leaving flat out straight away. I'll be gone once I get too caught up in new projects to be able to check up on the site.

Thanks for playing my mods over the past two years guys!

The tournament map is out, http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=7474.msg80755#new. Everyone participating in the tournament will need this map. If some of your team members don't check on the site be sure to send them the download link!

Okay guys, it's go go go.

New poll on what sides to play as is up in the signup thread. Go vote! I won't be allowing the Republic or CIS as both their special units wouldn't work in this style of tournament. (Not saying I won't change that view if a lot of people want to play as the Republic or CIS.)

Check out and discuss the rules here.
http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=7455.0

Sign up and vote on what map should be played here.
http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=7451.0

The answer to what map will be played is Cloud City, I think I can safely remove the poll and put up another given the massive percent of the vote it had.

Cloud City becuz cloudz r awsme 12 (80%)
Citadel, I like the cold 1 (6.7%)
Mos guyz, it's hot and gud fun1!111!1!!!! 2 (13.3%)

We have our start date.

14th of January 1 (14.3%)
21st of January 2 (28.6%)
28th of January 3 (42.9%)
4th of Febuary 1 (14.3%)

And the answer to what side will be played.

Rebels, freedom is where it is at! 11 (52.4%)
Imperials, because enslaving a galaxy it totally ethical. 10 (47.6%)

Original Post
[EDIT]
The original idea has changed a little after Unit 33 suggested Highlander rules.

So we've done duels in the past and we've done clan tournaments in the past. But we haven't had a proper team tournament yet. I am all keen to organize one and want to know if anyone is interested. It would be a round robin tournament to make sure each team got to fight one another.

I'm already drafting rules.

The 5 players on each team must play as one of the 5 classes. There can only be one of each class per team.
On TF2 these are known as "Highlander" games because "There can only be one".

Alternatively the games could be 4 vs 4 without special units for balance (if it is so wished).

Each round matches could be fought on a different map to keep things fresh. So first round all matches take place on CC, next Citidal, etc. And ticket count would be 50 or 100 to account for the low amount of players. EDIT: Deagle says that a normal ticket count would works well for 5v5.

Teams themselves could be comprised of any players. (I have more in-depth rules written done. But for now this will do.)

Thoughts? Interested?
Just a reminder to keep things constructive and civil guys. The last thing we want is this turning into. "Radar Mod? 2.0"

Dynamic Water? Metal Deformation? Wind Physics? Sky scrapers collapsing in MP?! Just let me know where to send all my money EA. Actually, I may need some of that money for a PS4... I don't think my laptop will handle this at a consistent frame rate.
#36
Yeah, yeah. Okay so it isn't that important. But maybe this will teach you all on why it is a bad idea to trust Wikipedia.
Now everyone seems to automatically see Zero Edit and puts two and two together to get five. The result Zero Engine. Or if you are like 99% of the population and you need information where are you going to go? Wikipedia of course, the source no 1. of unreliable information ever since it was created. (Wikipedia lists SWBF engine as being Zero, despite no source being cited. If I were to go and try pull something like that they would threaten to ban me probably.) Now I have never seen any real reference to SWBF's engine being called Zero Engine; thus it greatly annoyed me when people present it as fact without any real proof.

So the other day I decided to just end my question as to if it was true or not once and for all. Basically I asked psych0fred about it, today he replied. Isn't he a nice chap? He deserves a medal for having put up with all our stupid questions all these years. Anyway his reply is below.

Quote from: Psych0fredThe engine itself did not have a name. The level editor was called Zero based on one of the earliest games it was used to build which was called something like Ground Zero at Activision but I don't know that it was ever released (this was in the 90's and would have been a PC game. ).  The same engine was used on many games and modified independently for each one. In short the engine evolved and the code branched, features kept or discarded by each different team as needed. I think it was even updated and used for the Lord of the Rings game Pandemic made after SWBFII. Some of these games include Dark Reign, Dark Reign II, Triple Play, Battlezone (I think) Battlezone II, Star Wars Clone Wars,  Full SPectrum Warrior and Mercenaries. They are all branches of the same game engine, all with different code and functionality but all branched off from the same code. The engine didn't have a name though, each game had a unique codebase that was modified to meet the needs of each game. Zero was just the name of the level editor.

Well there you have it. The engine is not Zero or Zero Engine. Sorry if you now feel you don't have a name to call the engine.

This just really got on my nerves a lot.

Hello there, welcome to the topic. Are you wondering what this topic is about? Didn't you read the title?

CLICK FOR SCREENSHOTS!1!!!!!1

So yeah it's out, go play it. If you're a mac user, regrettably Unit 33 has reported that the mod crashes on mac. A version supporting macs is not ruled out if the demand is there.

Also the CW era is normal SWBF style. (Capture CPs.) And GCW is Free For All. (Shoot anything that moves.)

NBAQ (Never Been Asked Questions) Well maybe a couple have been asked.

HELP! While loading the game freezes up. What is wrong? I don't know, please go into your Addon folder then into skmc2 and then finally into iofiles. In there you will find a file called log.txt. Please post the contents of it for me so I can help work out what the problem is with your game.

Where is the mini-map?! Good question, we don't know either. Actually truth be told the map is so small and I just couldn't be stuffed. You can find your way around with out one Mr.Co-Dependent.

When I submitted my class it was <INSERT DIFFERENCE HERE>, why did it get changed? Some stuff got buffed some stuff got nerfed. At the end of the day though we got a sorta balanced mod?

Why isn't my floor reflective? You need to have a graphics card capable of having water set to High for the reflective floor to be shown in all it's splendor.

Why do explosion effects sometimes not show? It's due to the reflective floor, I used a hackish method to add it after nothing else worked. (Meaning the floor actually goes is layers like this. Collision Level>Water Level>Floor Object.

Why does my lighting look bad compared to yours? Bump maps need to be switched on for the lighting to look at it's best.

Why does the loading screen sometimes stutter and take a bit longer than normal? It is the game randomly selecting your classes. While it usually does it in under a second sometimes it can take a bit longer.

The lighting is too dark, is there anything I can do to make it brighter? Yes actually see readme.txt in the map's addon folder for instructions on how to use the Mod Configuration File. It'll let you make the map brighter.

I saw a friend of mine playing with 100s of AI how can I do that? Once again see the readme.txt for instructions on how to set the AI count to be higher through the .mcf .

Does the flamethrower actually recharge? No, this is by design. The class is meant to be a long range fighter. The flamethrower is just in case someone gets up close. You should have enough fuel to kill one to two people.

I keep shooting people in FFA, why don't they die?! Put team kill on, all your problems will go away.

Will anymore classes be added in the future? Possibly yes and also no. I may release a patch once I am back from my break that will allow people to create their own expansion packs. But I won't be adding any more classes to it myself.

Finally thank you to everyone who submitted a class. (A heads up the credits file contains a list of people people listed as having had there assets used. It doesn't include everyone who submitted a class, since your class is sort of your statement on the mod.)

Released Assets / skfunctions.lua
July 02, 2013, 06:31:21 AM
Have you ever wanted access to lua functions written by SleepKiller for SWBF? No? Go look at cats then. if yes read on! In the attached .zip file you'll find my lua functions file. Just download then add these lines to your mission.req.
REQN
{
"script"
"skfunctions"
}

Then add this line to your mission script right below ScriptInit()
ScriptCB_DoFile("skfunctions")
Then your good to start calling the functions in your mission script! So what functions are there exactly?

ForceClasses -- For use with AddRandomClasses.
AddRandomClasses -- Randomizes a teams classes.
ForceShadowsOff -- Forces shadows off. (Legacy, use ForceVideoSettings instead.)
ForceVideoSettings -- Forces video settings based off arguments.
AddExpansionClasses -- Adds expansion pack classes.
GetPickedClasses -- Get's previously picked classes from a file.
LogProgress -- Log's a functions progress.

GetNumberFromFile -- Fetches a number from a text file.
DoesFileExist -- Tests to see if a file exists. Returns true if it does.
UseLateAddon -- TBR only function, you can always edit if you want.
GetLocatedNumber --Gets a number from a specific location in a file.
ReadStringFromFile --Almost exactly the same as GetNumberFromFile, except it returns a string value instead.

Now a lot of the stuff references to The Battle Royale's addon folder skmc2 and also expects there to be a sub-folder iofiles in there. To quickly be able to use them in your map just run a Find and Replace operation in something like Notepad++ for skmc2 and replace it with your world ID. Then in the same folder as addme.script create a folder called iofiles . You should then be good to go.

I may do a write up at some point on how to correctly use each function. For now just ask me how to use something or what something does and I'll explain.

Scummies / SleepKilling Break Coming Up
July 01, 2013, 09:16:28 PM
It's time (again?) for me to take a step back from SWBF and games for a bit. So I'll be off for about a month or so once the Battle Royale is out. I'll check up on the site every few days or something like that. But I won't be modding or playing SWBF. Does this mean any of my projects are canceled? Nope, they'll still get worked on once I have taken a break.

As I said I am not going mostly inactive just yet, I will once the Battle Royale is out though.

Cya on the flip side or something like that.
