It was temporary, the site is back up now. I am not really sure what happened though.

I have added the server list to the home page.  Please take a look at it and judge it harshly.
Sometimes it doesn't load in the iframe.  You can go to https://stats.swbfgamers.net to see it in its full glory.

If you want to see expanded functionality, go ahead and ask.  I'm not afraid to try stuff, considering I have a different version of this page on my personal server.

I just noticed this somehow but I love it, really useful idea. Could you add the SWBF2 servers to the list also in like a different tab/button maybe?

Hey everyone, I'm posting here to spread the word about a SWBF2 PlayStation 2 tournament taking place this summer over at the BFC. This is the link to the signup thread:
http://www.theswbfc.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2003

This tournament uses an open ladder format that usually takes place annually in the summer. Currently there are 6 teams signed up, teams may sign up at any point in the season.

So if any of you still have your PS2 lying around, feel free to sign up for Season 15 by posting in the topic that I linked. A clan needs a minimum of 4 members to sign up and the minimum size for battles is 3 on 3. There's also always the option of joining a pre-existing team as a single person, and it appears that certain people are looking for members.

The site has been running this ladder since 2007 and it will be the 15th one, so we have a lot of experience running these, there is even going to be a cash prize this year for the top 2 teams.

You can also feel free to ask me any questions at all related to this competition or how to connect to SWBFSpy on PlayStation 2, I would be happy to answer.

Led, I recently tracked down the person who made this post: http://www.ps2onlinegaming.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1990&start=150#p14003

Bobz has an up and running PAL DNAS server, he told me the IP address and he mentioned the Japan region too, but I don't think he has Japan up fully. Anyways  I think the PAL EU players will be able to get past the -610 error if you put this entry into your DNS server:

gate1.eu.dnas.playstation.org 198.98.52.122

I won't be able to test it because I don't have the European PS2 or PAL version of the game, but if Led puts this in and it works, then you should be able to get to the server list again. Just keep in mind that the server list might be empty at the moment because I don't think anyone has servers up on the EU list. Someone could put one up with the same server manager though, using Pyrojockey's server region mod.

What region are you in? Currently most of the tutorials are for USA / the NTSC version of the game, the other regions are not up at the moment. But I think the PAL DNAS will be back up soon.

I've never got the game to work over xlink though I only tried once, before Gamemaster was up. I would be interested if someone got it working though. It seems much more complicated, but I do know Socom players use that.

I would just stick to SWBFSpy if you can get it running because it's just 1 simple number change to join PS2 servers.

Yes it is possible to do what you are asking. Everything I'm about to say applies to the second game, it should all work on the first game too, but I haven't played the first one recently.

So on SWBF2 if you hit create it will host a server from your PS2, the maximum amount of players that can be in these is 4. So many people call them "4-mans". They should be working but oldsnake is saying they aren't so I am not too sure on that, I haven't tried one in a while.

It sounds like what you want to do is host what many people refer to as a "downloaded". For this what you need to do is download the PS2 server manager .exe and run it on your computer. The .exe needs to have been edited from the orginial to make sure it puts the server up on the SWBFSpy server list. If you use what oldsnake linked you to it should work. Once you have the server manager running it will have the options to change the maps and settings to what you prefer.

this one seems to be the usa one

gate1.us.dnas.playstation.org: type A, class IN, addr 199.195.251.151

gate1.us.dnas.playstation.org 199.195.251.151

How did you find this out?

My server only forwards to the replacement servers for DNAS.  If they changed, I don't have the information.  PS2 online gaming appears to be down at the moment.  That would be the place to check.

Led, I'm gonna try to get you that info as soon as I find it. I think they DNAS numbers changed without me realizing and Christian is now hosting them.

JackDaniel if you can ask Christian for me what the new DNAS numbers are that would be really helpful. These aren't the numbers we use in our PS2s, they are something different. They should look like this:
gate1.jp.dnas.playstation.org 149.56.101.45
gate1.eu.dnas.playstation.org 167.114.40.4
gate1.us.dnas.playstation.org 167.114.40.5
^Those are the old ones, we need to know the new ones to make sure SWBFspy (74.91.125.138) is working.

The alternative is if someone knows what to do with this
https://github.com/FogNo23/DNASrep

If we could figure out what to do with that Github link maybe SWBFSpy can host the DNAS too. I am not sure if you guys would want to do that but in my head I think it shouldn't be too complex.

Unfortunately I have no idea how to use that github code myself. Maybe Drunken_Master, Phobos, or oldsnake would know. I remember they were helpful on the other complicated stuff when we were getting PS2 up and running. It would be nice to not have to rely on 2 different places for these workarounds.

Thx snake for uploading this  Now it might be possible in theory to replicate the patch for other players somehow

In regards to the PS2 SWBF1 patch, what exactly did it do? This still confuses me. Wasn't it an issue where players who did not have the patch were unable to see the server list? But after GameSpy went down none of us needed the patch anymore anyway so this was a good thing?

What benefit would there be to getting the patch to everyone? I thought it just caused problems, or did it actually improve something about the game?

EDIT: I now see you guys talking about the patch helping with an issue that made PS2's reload? Does that mean you get kicked out of the server? Is that what the purpose of the patch was, just to fix that issue?

I suppose you guys can add me if you like, as I have remote manager for the PS2 server that you guys have up. But maybe this is PC only so if that is what you meant I'm not sure.

Using currently 186.35.112.91 as primary
Using currently 74.91.125.138 as secondary
I think these are the right numbers to use for DNS. You have SWBFSpy and Christians DNS.

The problem is the DNAS number (which is a separate thing from DNS) might have changed. This is what we were using:
gate1.jp.dnas.playstation.org 149.56.101.45
gate1.eu.dnas.playstation.org 167.114.40.4
gate1.us.dnas.playstation.org 167.114.40.5

These are via the user "no23" from PS2onlinegaming.com as Led said. I will see if I can find out what changed.

General / Re: Master Server and DNAS
November 22, 2016, 01:44:05 AM
Hi Dracula. Led's info is right. Here's a bit of a timeline...

GameSpy stopped working on PS2 around July of 2014. By this point Kalle and LAkeks had already made GameMaster and I already tested that it was working on PS2 in June 2014. GameMaster ran the master server list for us from July 2014 until June 2016. Kalle helped transfer some of his work over to SWBFSpy here and Led made a DNS server for our PS2s to connect to, which points them to SWBFSpy which hosts the master server list.

Around April 1st of 2016 there was a rumor going around that Sony was going to shut down DNAS for the Playstation 2. This rumor was actually false, and what was shutdown was something pertaining to Final Fantasy XI. I think there might have been DNAS errors for 1 or 2 days on PS2 around this time, but then they went away. I am not sure what caused this or if it was just a coincidence but DNAS kept running past April for sure. This might be because we connect through a workaround DNS server to DNAS but I am not sure. I believe Sony kept up some part of DNAS because it was being used by the PSP. That is until around October. (I could be a little wrong in this paragraph there's something about the authentication aspect of DNAS still being up, but we had to go through SWBFSpy or some other DNS on our PS2s first to get authenticated. It was kinda down but also kinda still working fine and I'm not super clear on how. Druken_Master explains it here a little: http://www.ps2onlinegaming.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1907&start=20 . Also I think its possible Kalle did something to the GameMaster DNS in April that we weren't aware of that pointed us to the right addresses of Sony's that were still up but we just didn't know about it.

Anyway last month, for the first time, Sony's DNAS servers shut down all the way. The reason we didn't see many issues at the time was because the 2 workarounds we use (Christains DNS and SWBFSpy) had their DNS servers pointing us at the new replacement server that No23 managed to make before we could notice any downtime really.

I think No23, a user on the PS2onlinegaming forums is the answer to your question. He managed to make a server that emulated what the official Sony one used to do up until October 2016, so I believe your thanks should go to him:
http://ps2onlinegaming.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1990

I told Led the new address numbers of this workaround made by No23 and he put them into the DNS server table.

Where would I find the post on here so that I can give it to the dude who is asking?

Edit: I have told the person on there that it work on PS2 and have linked him to some posts on the site to help.

Thank you for spreading the word to PS2 players, I appreciate it.

Hey Led, no rush on this, but a PS2 player has asked me what happened to the SWBF2 SWBFGamers Server.

When you get a chance to put it back up I would like to get set up with remote manager again. Also can we use the normal one this time instead of the 1 second spawn mod?

These are the files from oldsnake that we were using I think. Using the normal exe from here and not the fast spawn one should be it:

Here is his post with the server manager files too:
