Could not connect to host? SWBFspy 1.2 original cd game.

I am using the original cd version of Star Wars Battlefront 2004. I added the BattlefrontSWBFspy.exe (I think it is v1.2) Running on wine, both Mac and Linux (not sure if that matters, but I thought it worth mentioning.) When I try to connect to one of the existing servers most times I get "could not connect to host" And when I start a server on my Mac and then try joining the game from the Linux, the ping is 9999, and I can not connect to host. I want to be able to host a private game to play with my younger cousin. Is there some connection port I'm not aware of? Thanks for any assistance :)

There shouldn't be a port issue since you're trying to connect to a server, however, I'd recommend giving a shot to unlocking ports (3658-3659-6500-27900-29910-29920 UDP+TCP -- if I'm not wrong).

Let me know if you can connect to other servers. Those with 9999 are hosted by players, and not VPS/Rootservers.

also make sure various software firewalls are off and appropriate permissions are given for the executable to access the internet (more of an issue for windows machines, but could also be in other cases as well)

Don't believe everything you read on the internet

I added the ports, but still can hardly get in a match. I connected to the EU server for a short time, then during game transition, I gave me the "lost connection to host". I went back to trying to connect and all I get is "Lost connection to host". The firewall if off on my mac and no change. Could it be because its a lower end computer? Its a MacBook air with 8gb ram. (map loading is slow) Could it be that it is taking to long to load the map and I am then considered idle?

the computer is fine--maybe the wine is the issue.   Hard to say.

Are you on wireless or wired?  If wireless, sometimes that is an issue as well.

I play SWBFI on my Mac through this old but reliable port. See my video I made some years back with install instructions and links.

The port works wonderfully and I'm able to connect to SWBFSpy servers just fine. I haven't played it beyond 10.13 so I can't speak to issues on newer Mac OS.

If you're curious there's a similar video I made on installing SWBFII on Mac that also works great but you can't play online anymore with the new Steam/GOG servers, so single player only. https://youtu.be/JMZLWiEN9F8

You can either use a hosts file modification (Windows) or use the exe. Result is gonna be the same. As for the load, it shouldn't be taking long, but if it does, I think you can move to a backup folder every file in Load, except for load.lvl and see if it speeds it up.

Also, since you have the CD version, if on Windows running "CDKey.exe" from the "Install" folder in your game directory and trying to put different keys in could help.

I believe if somebody else is using the Wine/Mac port, this issue is pretty frequent.  I don't know enough about it though.

'Please, tell me more about the logistics of the design of laser swords being wielded by space wizards' - Some guy on the internet.

Okay so I added the hosts listed from this post: https://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=11331.0
And now It works just fine on my Mac! So I did the same on the linux computer, but that is still the same "lost connection to host".
I need it to work on Linux, because that is my cousins laptop. I plan to introduce him to star wars battlefront ps2 split-screen, when he visits for a week or so. Then I wanted to set SWBF on his linux notebook so we can continue to play while apart.

So I added the hosts using "nano" editor in terminal on linux. Then I restarted and checked to make sure they saved (which they did). I start SWBF and try joining every server but all give "lost connection to host". I did this process thing on Mac and now it works, unless it is just some coincidence it started working on Mac.

I also don't know what you mean by backup load-

So as to reduce the load time I have 2 things in my game that save time:

1) Custom load file & removed map loads --- Check image attached.
2) Disabled load screens (hexedited).

I removed the load files and there is still no change. The loading is just as long. I don't think the loading is the problem. Mac loads take the same, and is still connecting.

Here is something else I noticed on my Mac, when go to multiplayer, up in the corner it says an IP address. This IP address is completely different from the actual IP of my Macbook. Now on the Linux computer in multiplayer; the IP address is the exact same as the actual IP address of the computer. Could this have something to do with the connection problem?

You might check your router.  It might be smart enough to mess up the routing, if you know what I mean.

I cant figure what it is I'm missing. Is there any kind of whitelist i need to be added to or something? I feel like I read about that somewhere once. Im just at a loss. In the mean time I'll start over, the install and try a different wine version.

What? There is nothing like that needed, otherwise you wouldn't have connected to servers...
What you need is just the exe file replacement. That's it. The other issues are linked to the game/OS. Not the multiplayer alternative.
