I recently downloaded few .msh files by GGCTUK and I tried to import them in the game using the VisualMunge Editor, but when i load the map the game will crash. But the oddest thing is that even when i munge a clean assets version of the imp side the game will still crash. I'm an absolute beginner, so be aware you are talking to a complete noob.  ::)

If u use a client SIDE mod, which is not the same the server has, u'll crash until u remove it from ur files...
I'd recommend u to download the SIDE Builder, munge the original SIDE files and replace the new lvl files with the ones u currently have

First of all, huge thanks for your swift and accurate reply! But since I'm still getting the ropes, can you explain me:
-What's a client SIDE mod?
-What's a server SIDE mod?
-What is the SIDE Builder? Where I can download it from?
-Why should I munge the original SIDE and replace the files in my side folder? If it's to restore the game correct loading, i don't need that, because i got a backup even before starting to mess around with the files.
Thank you again for the support.

First of all, huge thanks for your swift and accurate reply! But since I'm still getting the ropes, can you explain me:
-What's a client SIDE mod? What's a server SIDE mod? --- I dont know how I'd summarize a SIDE mod, cause u could change a lot of things from there..., so lets just go to the general point:
You downloaded some files by GGCTUK so that u could use them ingame, but since the server has its own SIDE, which is not the one u have, it will give u a crash. There is some stuff u cannot add to a SIDE Client mod, cause the stock SIDE File doesn't have that modification and it wont support it there, so it will cause a crash.

"But the oddest thing is that even when i munge a clean assets version of the imp side the game will still crash. " - Everytime u munge a new SIDE, and u're gonna work on a new one, you have to clean it (run the clean.bat files u'll find in the SIDE Builder)

-What is the SIDE Builder? Where I can download it from? -- If u wanted to modify ur SIDE (imp, rep, ...) files u needed this builder, so I guess u already have it

Answered in the quote ;)

Client and server refer to multiplayer.  If you only play single player then it is usually less of a problem.

Client is your game and server is the, well server.

Ideally both the client and server have the same files (or sides).  But some times you can change the look of things on your computer while the multiplayer server has other files.  These things are usually limited to only visual elements, such as what clothes a rocket trooper wears (called a "skin"), for example.

You can put in new skins into your side, but they will have to have the same names as the old ones, otherwise the game doesn't understand that there is something new.  You usually have to also change the map LUA as well.

Although this modding guide is for SWBF1, SWBF2 is similar enough that if you read it through, it should help explain the process

Thank you a lot. But I have few more questions: do I need the 1.2 patch to load my mods? When i get the file munged do i have to replace the .lvl files container in the side folder or should i simply put the new mod folder in the addon directoryr

It keeps crashing... even if i used the builder pro. It crashes at the third red ball in the loading bar. What am I doing wrong?

Alright, lets do this: explain step by step what u are doing, and after munging, post here the mungelog

My steps are:
1) Open edit munge, then create a new world choosing assault mode and conquest as game modes.
2) Add the imp folder from the assets files and put it in the data_ABF/sides folder
3) Finally I munge evrything and then i replace the lvl files contained in the gamedata's sides folder with the new ones from the ABF mod.

This one is for the swbf2 mission lua (if u change names in the SIDE folder, u'll crash, so maybe that's why u were crashing) --> http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=8516.0
