http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=952 (http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=952)
this patch will change your swbf gamespy server to openspy server.
(tested for 1.0 client and dedicated, 1.2 client and dedicated)
to install,
1. double click
2. click patch(recommended keep backup checked it will save a backup as battlefront.exe.bak just remove the .bak to restore it)
EDIT
a easier way to install the patch is to put it in same folder as battlefront.exe, run it, click patch, and lastly exit
3. when it says "can not find the file. search the file? click yes
4. browse to where you battlefront.exe is (default is c:program fileslucasartsstar wars battlefrontgamedata)
5.click ok
known bugs
1.0
none
1.2
when you go into lobby, you will hang at loading 100%,
to join a game you have to join, cancel, and join again.
ping is always shown as 9999
server stats are not shown when not using dedicated server tools

future testing pending
with patcher
some anti viruses may give false positive claiming it is a Trojan horse or a hack tool(they detect that it modifies memory addresses in the battlefront executable which it does modify 8 entries in the client and 10 dedicated server tool these all redirect gamespy to openspy)
-some windows 8 partitions display patcher incorrectly
if you have any problems to report or need help, pm me
note that the bugs you list are with openspy and do not appear to be related to your patcher.
Awesome job guys! So this is the version we will all use to play SWBF now? :panic:

Why can I not join some servers?

Shall we start advertisement campaigns?

Why can I not join some servers?
We don't know yet :(
What the heck? Some weird rectangle with a lizard holding a boyonette is blocking my view of the screen, what do I do to fix it?
screenshot?
at the bottom right there should be a exit button(the patcher should be able to be moved by holding left click on it and moving mouse) or if you can't access them just alt-f4 it
Thanks for this, Wolf! I had a great time on the PLA test server today!
Long live Star Wars Battlefront!

the patcher, you can drag it to the side to read the instructions, and when you have completed and hit exit it should disappear
I would try this out, but I'm thinking perhaps a video tutorial for this would be more effective? Just for the people that can't understand written instructions that well. :P
Just put it into your folder that contains battlefront.exe and run it. It is that easy.
won't work for me... Can anyone help? Oh and nothing works in the rectangle thingy.
thanks to all of you who found out about open spy and got it to work. awesome stuff

Awesome patch, worked perfectly. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
great works for me
i was able to join the server the first time i tried this, but now last two times i am able to get to the server screen and when i see the server list my swbf freezes. any suggestions?
-edit
ive figured out it only does this when i type in "1" in the in/max filter (old habit), i guess for the time being ill have to remember not to do this

once the server screen loads dont move your cursor for about 10 seconds that seems to reduce the freezing we haven't found a fix yet though and it is a very annoying bug.
another bug is server names dont update for several hours and if you host another server it will assume the name of the old one which can be confusing.

ya ive noticed that, tried joining a game on islands with a couple ppl and ended up playing citadel by myself
I like OpenSpy !
I like OpenSpy !
I like Openspy very, very, much !
Some people however, have some issues with it. Might take some time to encourage people to transition across. I fear that we might lose some more players as part of that process : (
Still, I like OpenSpy !
Probably mostly because Tunngle is, with its manual adapter instals and cantankerous port forwarding, err, quite simply, is the pits.
Great job on the patch. I'm testing the v1.2 dedicated server and it's working as advertized.
Any idea if this will work with the original and patched versions of the PS2 dedicated server executable as well? There are a lot of PS2 players still out there that were shut out when Lucas Arts stopped supplying the patch.

I think I have the PS2 server versions here on the site. If you can tell me which one is the correct one to use, I can put up a PS2 dedi server on my PC box so that it can be tested.

The installation program is named "swbattlefrontps2server.exe".
The original un-patched version of the installation program is 55,462 KB and dated 9/26/2004.
The executable "battlefront.exe" for the original un-patched version is 3,076 KB and dated 9/16/2004.
The patched version of the installation program is 57,635 KB and dated 12/22/2004.
I don't have file properties for the patched executable at the moment, but it would be dated around December 2004.
I prefer the original un-patched version over the patched. The reason being that Lucas stopped providing the patch in November of 2010. It is my understanding that when the patch is installed, although it is stored on the memory card, it is serialized to the PS2 and cannot be copied, transferred or shared. There are many people who have deleted the patch from their memory cards, lost the memory card with the patch, or like myself, never had the patch. Therefore supporting the un-patched version would allow anyone to play while the number of players with the patch are limited.
I know that prior to the termination of GameSpy support, only the patched versions of the game would show on the GameSpy master server list. I have no idea what OpenSpy would do with multiple versions.

OK, what I have installed right now is battlefront.exe 5,032 KB 11/18/2004
It sounds like it is the patched.
Let me dig a bit.
EDIT: OK, I found it, and I am running it using the HOSTS file option. Let me know if you can see it.

I cannot see any PS2 servers, but to be honest I have not yet verified that my PS2 network configuration for OpenSpy works:
Primary DNS IP to: 99.198.122.113
Secondary DNS IP to: 208.67.222.222
On the server PC I tried editing the hosts file without success (I did have to guess at some of the values.)
I added the following to my hosts file:
127.0.0.1 localhost
#
198.91.90.160 swbfrontps2.ms10.gamespy.com
198.91.90.160 swbfrontps2.available.gamespy.com

198.91.90.160 gpcm.gamespy.com
198.91.90.160 natneg1.gamespy.com
How does this compare with your hosts file?
Ah, I see the issue. I will work on fixing it.
EDIT: ok, I added the PS2 lines, and restarted the server

Still not seeing anything. Not sure if this is a server issue. I have a friend with SWBF PS2 configured for OpenSpy. He cant see any server either, dedicated or non-dedicated. Could be a configuration issue on the PS2 side.
there is a PS2 player here by the name of SNAKE that has used Openspy. Maybe we can contact him.

You mean this
Snake (http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=profile;u=435)?
No, he means SNAKE not Snake, he linked his profile. I've seen him on tunngle a few times.
 cannot find the battlefront.exe file... :(

program files/lucasarts/battlefront/gamedata
But what we are finding is that tunngle may still be our best option right now--openspy is too flakey.
really for me it depends on whatever is used more but either way i still like having the option of being able to use it but no one uses gameranger anymore and i checked tunngle a few times yesterday but no one was on so i figured that i might as well get openspy to

still cant find the file i seriously have no idea why but apparently it sounds like tunngle is better anyway so i guess it doesn't really matter if i have openspy or not :moo:
actually it does
there are more servers in openspy then tunngle
by what i saw, only PLA and UEF host in tunngle, and in openspy, FC UEF, PLA and 21 clan are hosting there
Find your LucasArts folder, which is usually found by going to Computer/Local Disk C:/Program Files/Lucasarts/Star Wars Battlefront then open the GameData folder, where you will see the stormtrooper SWBF icon beside an exe file called "Battlefront" or "Battlefront.exe"
If you're like me, it may be in Program Files(x86) instead of Program Files.
