Tech Support / gifs for avatars
February 21, 2010, 01:14:55 PM
question is, are they allowed? are they banned because they lag the page or something? because I'm trying to put in a gif for my avatar via url, and all that comes up (as you can see) is an x. any help?

oh, nevermind. I saved it to my computer and uploaded it.  :tu:

BTW, if it lags the page, plz tell me. I don't want people taking an hour to get to the bottom post just so I can have a weird avatar.

So long story short, SWBF2 and everything else was wiped off my computer when it got a new hard drive ( :censored:  :censored:  :censored:) It was already uninstalled, but now I'm SURE that there aren't any files or anything left of the game. So now, I get a craving to play SWBF2 again, but something goes wierd during installation. Not the part where you fill in stuff and agree to stuff, when it's putting the game on your computer. It will be installing normally until, not too far into the process, a small message will pop up in the middle of the screen which says something about a file transfer error. If you want, I'll try it again and I'll be able to tell you exactly what it says. ANy help at all will be greatly appreciated.

It seems that in my 1 1/2 month break from SWBF, I've forgotten how to download and install mod maps. Can someone please refresh my memory?

Other Games / Longest Level You've Ever Played?
February 08, 2010, 03:30:13 PM
Mine without a doubt would be Halo Combat Evolved's (yeah, I know I've been talking about halo alot recently. I only realized recently it was for the PC and I just got it on Xmas, and couldn't play it for about a week. And I'm really excited cause its like my favorite game ever and I can finally play it without going over to a friend's house.)  anyway, mine would be Halo Combat Evolved's Assault on the Control Room, (AotCR) level 5. You traverse at least like 30 miles and it takes at least 2 hours. (I've never timed it.) At least a discovered a sizeable non-glitch skip for it. But still, it's a long level either way. But it does shave off like 30-60 minutes.)

Star Wars Battlefront (2004 Original) / Your Custom Unit
February 04, 2010, 07:40:38 PM
We might already have had a topic like this... I'm not sure. Memory fails me. If we haven't, yay. If we have, I'm just cluttering forum space.

Mine:
Primary Weapons
Sniper Rifle
Blaster Rifle
Republic Rocket Launcher (It owns)

Secondary Weapons:
10 grenades
6 mines
Invisibility*

*Limited, of course, with an invisibility bar similiar to a jet pack bar.

It'd be cool if he was a rebel, too. They seem so lonely down there on the ground. But the droids don't deserve flight. They just don't.

So I've posted another topic like this a while ago, but a few things have changed since then. I got a new hard drive for my computer, AND I got a new SWBF disk.  However, SWBF still isn't working on my computer. At least I'm getting a message about it now and that I know my computer knows there's a disk in there now, before you couldn't tell. It wouldn't do anything. Anyway, what could be the problem? I haven't the slightest idea now that I got a new hard drive and disk.

Other Games / Your Most Epic Flag Capture EVER!
February 01, 2010, 10:16:09 PM
CTF is a FPS and third person shooter classic multiplayer gametype. So, in any game, any game at all, what's your coolest, luckiest, funniest, craziest, or all around most epic flag capture? Heck, it doesn't even have to be on PC or mac or whatever you play on. It could be on Xbox 360 for all the rest of us cared. After all, this is in "other games."
I'd say mine is in Halo: Combat Evolved for PC. (I'm a Halo player. It has a great story and awesome gameplay in singleplayer and multiplayer.) Anyway, we were on the Death Island map, (one of my personal favorites.) CTF, all vehicles enabled. I was on blue team. So I get into a hog solo, drive around the island to red base, pick up a shotgun and pistol ammo while I get there. I enjoy the scenery as I go, just casually driving. I notice 2 enemy tanks far out in the water, front to back. Yikes. Luckily they didn't see me. So, I get to red base. So, I toss in a few nades, just clear it out in general. So, I go in for the flag. So, I'm going to the flag, and I try to run out to my hog, but change of plan, a guy spawned out there next to it. So I run for the teleporter inside the base that will take me to the shees, and I go in. I've lost most of my shield by now cause of that guy that spawned. So, I get up to their banshee spawn, no banshees. Crap. Well, I notice a ghost on the platform overlooking their side of the island, (where a ghost spawns) and I run for it. I also a notice a sniper with a sniper rifle pinning down my teammates. So, while I'm at it, I decide I might as well peg this guy in the back with a quick melee from the flag. (Melees in the back are instant kills in Halo CE.) So that sniper is dead now, and just a nother number in my kill count. Anyway, the guy I mentioned earlier has taken down my health and is shooting at me with an AR. So I get in this ghost, and my health is down to one bar. I start to back up, and I swear this goes in slow motion, but eventually I get to the edge of the cliff (In reality it takes less than a second to back up to it.) and I fall a good probably 50 yards down to the beach. Being in a vehicle, I take no damage. So, my shield recovers, and I drive back to my base with no problems, luckily. I pull up to our base, get out, and happily deliver the flag.

Tech Support / How do I get Xfire video sound?
February 01, 2010, 05:47:56 PM
So, I'm kind of an amateur SWBF cameraman, I record videos of all sorts of stuff in battlefront, some stupid, some out of pure boredom, and some to capture for memories when and if gamespy shuts down their online support for the game. But, they're all mute. No sound or anything. I'll have my sound cranked, but the video has absolutely none. How do I get sound on Xfire videos? All the other videos on Xfire seem to have it.

Other Games / Any Halo 1 PC players out there?
December 29, 2009, 07:24:10 PM
So I just got Halo: Combat Evolved PC for Christmas, (One of my favorite games of all time. I've played it on Xbox at friends' houses before, but I don't own an Xbox myself, so I've been Halo-less up until X-mas '09. And I only recently discovered that they made it for PC a few years after the original came out. Yes, I realize I'm very late.) Anyway, so I'm having a heck of a load of fun playing a game I've absolutely loved but never been able play for all these years, and wondering if any of the PCs around here still play this epic FPS, multiplayer or otherwise.

Other Games / Halo 2 for XP?
December 16, 2009, 05:48:51 PM
Is Halo 2 ever going to come out for XP? Yeah, it's definitely the worst of the series, but still, it's not bad, and it'd be nice to have it on XP, Vista sucks IMO. I don't have Vista, and I don't have an Xbox, but I do get to play it over at friends' houses when we play Xbox, but still, it'd be nice to have it for the PC. Is there ever going to be an XP version of Halo 2, or at least a patch?

Nothing* (And I do stress NOTHING) is more annoying than getting S&P killed by some newbie with a blaster rifle. You fire a rocket, you miss. Take cover, no biggie. But that guy, without even letting the trigger up, fires right at you after following you while you are reloading. LET THE TRIGGER UP ONCE IN A WHILE! What's so annoying is that no matter how many times they miss, they might very well get you easily and cheaply. I mean, at long range, they're a joke, the BR loses accuracy after firing, but at close range, forget it. That dude gets to stand over your (CHEAPLY) defeated corpse. Have I mentioned they don't even LET THE TRIGGER UP? It's even more annoying when they waste ammo on you after you're dead, or they say something like "Owned", not realizing they just killed you in a way that requires NO skill. I mean, if you're going to use the BR skillfully and constructively, fine. Go ahead. Go semi-automatic, THANK YOU. But those spray and prayers are just so annoying.

Had to get this off my chest. Bugs me a LOT.

The wookie is one of the best soldiers in the game. The bowcaster can be charged up for various bolt numbers, depending on the situation. It can't fire as fast as the normal soldier's rifle can, but it doesn't lose any accuracy over time in single-shot mode. The grenade launcher lets the wookie carry about 12 more grenades than most soldiers, plus they can be launched further. The time bomb, the most powerful explosive in the game, deals heavy damage to vehicles, and it sticks. 2 time bombs blow up an AT-ST. The wookie anti-infantry AND anti-tank. He is good in almost any situation and has about .5x as much health as a normal soldier.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is the wookie in a nutshell. Now, on to the second part of the salute. Pictures!

SWBF 1 and 2 Tournaments / Platform Wars 3?

I was just wondering if there is ever gonna be another PW. I had fun last time, I'd like to see another one.

What are your favorite units to play as on a certain side? Someone posted a "Favorite Side" topic, so I thought I'd take it a step further. Try and give some reasons why, too. Here's mine:

Republic: Jet Trooper. (I'm sure you didn't see that guy coming.) The rep vanguard is the best in the game though. He carries a total of 8 rockets, with 2 in a clip, making him far superior to other vanguards. Jet trooper all the way though.

Rebels: Best pilot in the game IMO. Usually, I'm either wookie or pilot, soldier occasionally, and sometimes the vanguard. I don't like their vanguard very much though. The shotgun and bowcaster are great for clearing out the hallways. The wookie is also a KING at clearing out the Carbon Freezing Chamber. Time bombs are great for rigging turrets and vehicles too. They are the only side that I play soldier as online, I like him better for some reason.

Empire: Usually dark trooper, sometimes vanguard, occasionally pilot. I like shotguns, what can I say?

CIS: I really don't like these guys, but I'm usually the pilot or vanguard. Occasionally I'll go Super Battle Droiding, too. The tri-shot is fun.

These are the guys I usually pick.

So I've been playing SWBF1 since late, late June '09, came online a month after, played happily on normal difficulty and against my friends and other people for a while. So Septemberish comes, I try cranking it up to HARD to get better.  :td: I get killed in less than a second. No matter what unit, I only manage to get 1-5 enemies before I get killed in a fraction of a second. I actually do good on hard every once in a blue moon, but on a daily basis,  :td:. Any tips? I've tried every unit out there against hard AIs, and I get PWNED. I do better ONLINE against REAL, SKILLED people that have been playing for YEARS than I do against hard AI.

Requests / Cliff Map
December 04, 2009, 03:27:48 PM
WOuldn't it be cool to have a map where the only standing space is small, circular cliffs? Like the ones you'll see in movies, that are so high that the clouds hide most of them? I'm thinking it can go something like this:

So there are basically just a bunch of circular tall pillars, and at a certain level on the map, below all the standing space, is just a bunch of clouds, where, if you fall, you die. Like if you jump off Bespin: Platforms. The border of the map could just be some medium-sized easy to stand on tall cliff pillars. Some could be connected by rope bridges, others you have to jump. The CPs could be on LARGE pillar cliffs, with maybe with some of them having rocks for cover. One thing I would like to see: A CP at the very, very bottom of the map, on a large pillar-cliff, with a rope bridge leading up to higher pillar/cliffs. Right next to the bottom-of-the-map CP, there should be another one just like it, but MUCH taller, like top of the map. So there's the main map and CP stuff, and then one thing I think would be cool, would be in the very middle of the map, towards the top, there could be a bunch of little pillars, and you have to jump to get from one to another, and then to get out to that group of mini-pillars, you have to get to a rope-bridged pillar, then have to jump to the mini-pillars. For starting team CPs, I think a one-team-has-high-ground-the-other-has-low-ground. A cool idea would be that the higher you get on the map, the smaller the pillars get, save for command post structures. Also, don't put the pillars EVERYWHERE, put only 1 or 2 paths at any given time, so that encountering other people is more likely. So there's gonna be a LOT of not-stand-on-able space, but that was the point of this map. Sound epic? I thought so.

Requests / CTF in SWBF1?
November 20, 2009, 06:41:23 PM
I like CTF in SWBF2, it's also a pretty common game mode in the shooter category, easily one of the coolest. (Conquest is better though, the "Normal" play.) So I was wondering if CTF is possible in BF1. So, is it? A good, old fashioned 2-flag capture the flag?

Star Wars Battlefront (2004 Original) / Playing Style?
November 19, 2009, 04:47:46 PM
Another "Just out of curiousity" topic. So, what's your playing style? I'll start us off.

I'm the loose cannon guy, taking risks and stuff. I'll pretty much do anything for kills, without thinking about what I'm about to do first. Ricocheting (Sp?) off blind corners as the dark trooper, jumping into crowded CPs as a jet trooper, charging in to a heavily guarded enemy base with a vanguard, that's me. It may make for a couple more deaths, but when I surprise a group of enemies, taking a couple down with me before I get overwhelmed by numbers is priceless. In short, I'm unpredictable. It's a pretty fun playing style, and sometimes I'll win a 1 on 1 just because I did something so stupid, it worked. Like I heard once before, "If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid." Again, it's fun because people just don't know what you're going to do next.

Requests / Tantive Conversion?
November 04, 2009, 03:17:17 PM
I think I heard this a while ago, but since no one's talked about it in a while, I thought I'd make a post. That map's online play is awesome... It's just a cool map, too. Put together real well.

So I get SWBF1 in late June, play offline for a month, start playing online late July, then boom.... Late August. My computer spontaneously stops reading BF1. It acts like it doesn't exist. So I play on my brother's computer for a month or two, problem solved. But his ultra bright screen drives me crazy. Worse, whenever I'm online, I lose connection CONSTANTLY. I can barely go two games without losing connection in the middle of it. Meanwhile, we take my comp to the repair shop to upgrade it, stays there for a month or 2 (Old comp) and then we take it home. It STILL doesn't work. SWBF2 works, all my other discs work... Just not BF1. And it worked on my bro's comp too. The worst part though, is that I was foolish enough to uninstall BF1 when it first happened, thinking that it might make a difference, so I can't play a no disc download or anything. It just acts like the disc doesn't exist... It doesn't load, the start menu doesn't come up, nothing. Would buying a new copy make a difference? Any help? I want my BF1 play to be CONTINUOUS when online and for it to actually look like it's supposed to.
