Welcome Center / Vacation

Hey MPC-

I'll be at Lake Tahoe starting Saturday. Reportedly, there is internet access where I am staying, but obviously you lot take second priority over having fun. Sorry :P I will try to be on Xfire, however, so you should be able to IM me in desperate situations (eg the forum breaks).

I will be coming back the following Saturday. If you are a mod author reading this, please DO NOT submit your files to SWBFFiles before I get back! Otherwise, some other staff member will have to do them, or worse, you'll have to reupload it.

So... somewhat goodbye for now?

-JK

P.S- Any of you ever been up there? What are some good activities in the area?

So, apparently the idiot who said TFU wouldn't be on PC got fired from LucasArts, and tonight they announced that Aspyr will be porting the game to PC... and Mac! Don't worry Macs, you're OK this round.

It'll have all the DLC and etc, so no buying more stuff.

It comes out this holiday season.

PLATFORM WARS REDUX
War 1

Ye olde days of the Mac vs. PC days are making a return! The PCs vs the Macs in an all out war to see which side has the better players.

In previous years, the PC side did not have enough people to achieve a victory! At times, only a few dared show their face against the might of the assembled Mac players. These brave souls fought, but obviously they did not prevail.

Despite these crushing losses, the PC side has reawakened on MPCGamers! They are now represented well in the ranks, and it is time for the first battle to determine the true masters of SWBF.

So, are you ready to represent your platform? Will you dare join the armies and face the opposing team? Will you be a part of PLATFORM WARS REDUX?

DATE OF THE BATTLE: August 1st, 2009

TIME OF THE BATTLE: 8:00 PM EST

LOCATION OF THE BATTLE: Led/Buckler's Direct Connection server- 68.62.133.116

LOCATIONS OF THE FIGHTING: BESPIN: CLOUD CITY, THE MAZE (maz1), DEATH STAR (dea1), TATOOINE: JABBA'S PALACE, ARMCHAIR ASSAULT (aa)

Will you attend? Will you help your platform achieve victory?

Tech Support / Overheating (Solved)
July 19, 2009, 11:08:32 AM
So recently, my computer has been losing video during games- it happens usually after an hour or so of extended play. I can still hear things, the computer is still on, and the video card is still running- there just isn't anything on the screen.

I'm thinking that it's a problem with the card alone, but I'm not sure how to fix the issue. Obviously, I could just get another card, but I'm not sure what the best I can buy for this old system will be. I guess another solution is to place a fan on it at all times, but it's rather unsightly to just leave the side off all the time.

Perhaps it isn't a GFX problem at all though, and is rather a PSU problem or something similar.

Thoughts?

Tech Support / Building a system
June 26, 2009, 08:22:22 PM
So, it appears my current system (at bottom) is showing its age. It runs really hot whenever I try to play something made in the last two years, and particle effects and the like aren't rendering well. So, I figure it's about time I start browsing for a new system.

I'm trying to go for something under $800, since I don't have that much money and I doubt I can get anyone else to contribute more than about that sum (birthday's coming up). I don't know anything about choosing parts, only what the most respected names are and which products get the most and best reviews :)

I've done some Newegging, and here's what I've come up with:

Mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128392

Processor:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103649

RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184

Video:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102801

Case and PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.201633

HD:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319

DVD:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151171

OS:
Vista Home Premium x64

This comes to $790.

So, my questions- is this a good build? Is this worth 800 dollars? Is this enough to play all games out now and for at least a few years? Do you have any suggestions about the parts I've selected? I've heard there are new ATI cards coming out- should I wait for these?

please don't kill me i know next to nothing about system building and have probably chosen parts that will melt when they come together or have forgotten some critical component

Other Games / Trine

Trine's a fun little medieval platformer. It looks great, and is pretty fun to play. It's worth a try even if you don't usually like platformers.

Download the demo here.

Other Games / NEW SWBF Confirmed!
May 26, 2009, 05:42:20 PM
...for handhelds!

Yeah, that's right. Not SWBFIII. Not even for a console, or PC. The new game, Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron, developed by Rebellion and n-space, is for the DS and the PSP. Similar to Renegade Squadron, I assume, except focusing more on the Clone Wars era. Focusing around... "force-sensitive clones X1 and X2 (where do they come up with these names)", and with a "deep and engrossing storyline". Looks somewhat entertaining, but it's not SWBFIII by a long shot. Sorry guys!

I'm sure it would be better if it were on an actual gaming system, but no.

Valve will apparently be holding another free weekend for one of their games- this time it's Team Fortress 2. In honor of the soon-to-be-released Sniper/Spy update, of course. Watch "Meet the Spy" if you haven't already.

The free time will start on Thursday (tomorrow) and run through the end of Saturday. According to Shacknews, it is now available for preloading on your computer.

If you have Steam and don't have TF2, try it out. Add me (jedikiller32) and I might be able to jump in a game with you.

Tech Support / Virus (Solved)
May 03, 2009, 07:22:14 PM
So I was browsing the web earlier and AVG (antivirus) popped up with a box saying "Win32/Heur has been detected trying to run on your system." It listed an exe in the temp internet folders directory. I moved it to the virus vault, disconnected from the Internet, and ran a full scan of the computer (still ongoing), nothing yet).

Does anyone know what this virus is, what it does, and how to remove it from my system? I'm almost afraid to shut the thing down now, since I don't want it doing something bad to my bootup and make me have to reinstall Windows again <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /> The computer had been running somewhat slower, and Firefox has crashed a bit more recently.

From the little knowledge I was able to find on the Internet, it's a trojan, but I don't know what it does. I'm afraid to connect the computer to the Internet lest it upload my passwords or keystrokes or something personal to the Internet.

Can you all help me out here?

Hi all-

Will be gone for a trip to Washington, D.C starting tomorrow. I'll be back on Saturday, if not late Friday. Don't do anything bad, since I won't be around to clean up the mess. I wish you the best of luck, HC  XD

See you all Saturday.

Other Games / New Zelda Game!
March 25, 2009, 05:29:46 PM
...on the DS. About trains.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO   :-o

I so had my hopes up for another Twilight Princess! That was an awesome game.

But no, we get Phantom Hourglass 2, which was fun for the 10 hours it took to complete, then I never played again.

Well, maybe it'll be good. And maybe they'll announce something better at E3.

Hello Everyone!..

If you are interested in modifying Lucas Arts Star Wars: Battlefront video game for the Personal Computer, you have come to the right place. ;) ) feel free to post them here, and I will answer to the best of my abilities, and add it to a FAQ section in this main post apart from the main tutorials. :)

Now, find the ODF "rep_inf_clone_trooper". Double click to open. To some at first this may all look like a jumbled mess of words, don't worry, you'll understand it soon.

We'll be making a few edits to the clone trooper. Editing weapons will be explained in the next tutorial.

Now, in the Clone Trooper ODF, scroll down to a line that says:

QuoteMaxHealth    = 300.0

This line controls the units health. Let's make him a bit more full of life. change the "300.0" to "500.0". Do not remove he quations or anything else in that line.

Now, the clone troopers health is 200 points higher than average :D (Sorry no mod installation guides here)

If all worked out, you should have a Republic Clone Trooper with more health, slower or faster depending on what you did with speed, and a rocket launcher instead of a pistol!

I hope you understand some basics now!
