I know nothing about Xcode.

A good starting point for learning any language is to look for online tutorials or knowledge bases about whatever it is you want to learn.

You may be able to find some books on it at your local library or book store. (Don't forget to check the local college book store as well.)  Find a lesson plan and stick to it. Do the examples, no matter how simplistic they may feel.

Beyond that, have an idea and jump in and start coding. Use the internet as a tool to help find solutions and find a community that uses the language.

Thank you! I'll start up this learning project and get back to you on how it's going!

General / Help: Learning how to use Xcode
February 23, 2014, 08:11:46 AM
I'm looking to teach myself how to write basic iPhone applications with Xcode. Where do I start? Are there any good tutorials for Xcode beginners?

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Edited for grammar.

I competely missed Red's post.

Hi Red. Sorry for bothering you so much during my middle school years. :P

Bump, because I'm nostalgic and what not.

Holy crap you're alive and kicking Aeria. Aeria and I were the first people to port SWBF II to Mac using Wine and Cider, but that's a different story for a different time. I wonder if the how to is still around somewhere. I remember my old little white macbook from 2007 could barely run the ported program. I think I have it somewhere on an external hard drive if anyone is really interested.

EDIT: Here's a little video of the SWBF II port. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3y6FFaHDc58&list=UUxoKFhmgOwUngnraP_CIvDQ&index=2

I came around in 2007ish and just started playing with Minor Fawn who directed me to MacXgamers and it became kind of my second home. I joined IAS which fell apart pretty quickly afterwards, as did the clan scene compared to the older days.

I recognize a few people on this forum from old days but it looks like a lot of people have moved on in life. I did for a while starting in 2009. I played constantly from 2007 - 2009 then got busy with life and haven't had much time to play much. I find myself dying to play multiplayer right now. I don't care if it's a one on one duel, I will play you.

There was a time where we held monthly tournaments for individual people. A good tournament would grab 10 - 12 people but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. IAS and other clans started to die down, it became harder to schedule tournaments and clan matches that people would actually show up to. A lot of this community just grew up to be honest. I admire the older guys who can balance their families, jobs, lives, and playing a little SWBF here and there.

There is a whole different side to the history of SWBF with version 1.0. If anyone remembers Yankee, he played with VS on 1.0. They had their own clans and everything. This forum isn't a complete history of SWBF, but it's a nice little piece of it. There were / are so many other forums and communities that made up SWBF. I wish I could tell you what they were but I mostly just stuck around this community as it evolved. I'm honestly surprised to see this community is still chugging along. I figured it would die out but god bless the newcomers.

Where in the world did you newcomers (2010-present) get this game? I bought mine at the Apple store because it looked "cool." Then again, any FPS looks cool to a 7th grader.

I'm just getting back into forums.

I usually lurk around Reddit these days and post once in a while - no one ever responds though. I guess that's what you get for being a newbie.

Have a spare Windows installation disk or ISO:

I wish, I only have 6 gigs of space left on my computer. Lord knows where all of my hard drive space went.

I may not know ya, but I've seen a look at your old posts on here. Welcome back! :P

As far as Tunngle on Mac, Kit Fisto tried to do this a while back, with no success. Sorry man. :(

Well. if anyone has a Mac that isn't running Mavericks, I'd love to play you on Gameranger.

It would be nice to see you again in-game.  I'm fairly certain that DC's wont work anymore though, unless we can get openspy to work for us.

Basically, DCs went through Gamespy and Gamespy shut us down.

Oh yeah, I remember that. It was due,  BF 1 isn't a moneymaker for GameSpy anymore.

Does Tunnngle work with Macs?

EDIT: Just checked out the website. Looks like I'm stuck playing through GameRanger.

Hello!  :cheer:

Back again, kind of lurking.

I fired up the ol' SWBF on my old PowerPC Mac and found that hey, I'm not THAT rusty. I'd love to play some multiplayer if there are enough people around.

For those who don't know me, I've been around on and off since 2008 when the MacXgamers and Weili was the host. Wow, how times have changed.

Hit me up if you want to play. I'm pretty sure my router is still port forwarded so I can host DC.

Cheers!

Mac

EDIT: Ps found my old signature and avatar on my photobucket. booya.

So Assassin's Creed Two has become available for download on Steam for Mac users! I'm so excited, but I have a question about whether my Macbook can run the darn game.

Here are my specs:

2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM
256 MB VRAM NVIDIA GeForce 9400M

Now, here are the minimum requirements listed on Steam:

Intel CoreĀ® 2 Duo 3.06 GHz
3 GB RAM
256 MB Dedicated Shader model 3.0 or higher

So my question is, could my computer technically chug along in Assassin's Creed 2, or would I need to upgrade my specs in order to run Assassin's Creed 2?

Uh, just take a look at the up-coming tournament topic, of course it's vaguely alive.
Tournaments are like electrical defibrillators, they manage to shock life into things that seem dead.

Are you being sarcastic or talking about "real" SWBF tournaments Ansifen? If they're real, could you go into depth?

I have a working copy of Star Wars BAttlefront II on my laptop using a combination of Cider and WINE, proof that it will work. AG and I worked it out a couple years ago, with him doing most of the work. Talk to him about that. There used to be a whole tutorial to do it, but it was lost I think.

Also, my minecraft has had constant mini-spikes of lag in the Multiplayer server, and it pretty much started when i bought those, if i can remember.
So can someone help me out?

Hey Khyler,

If you're talking about the gamersarmy.net server, that's because they added so much friggin' stuff to it. I lag from time to time too and I have a high end Macbook, so don't worry about.

Edit: I just lagged 20 blocks, so there's your answer.
