I think it would be a good idea to allow the creators of threads to be able to semi-moderate their threads (and only threads that they create) by being able to lock them or delete posts.

It would leave to much room for abuse in my opinion. If a problem arises in your thread PM a moderator or admin.  We have moderators in a wide timezone range. For example I am in NZ and Unit 33 is in the UK.
