Hello all,

I've been doing some searching, and learned about something called External Graphics Cards. The idea of this teases me, because it sounds so awesome, but the only search results I get on this are from 2013 or older. Nothing recent, and all the talk back then is either about Prototypes or people being disappointed to find out that no such thing exists, at least when they posted.

Has anyone heard anything about External Graphics Cards in the last couple of years? I know there are definitely prototypes floating around, but does anybody know of anything Good that your "Average Joe" can buy?

I dont exactly follow it, but im pretty sure you can get certain enclosures for them Eg. the Razer Core but idk if its compatible with your average laptop or whatever and razer dont exactly have the best reputation. If you're willing to buy an external GPU you would most likely be better saving cash and just getting a PC as most laptops have dumbed down, low watt CPUs that would more than likely bottleneck your new GPU

Does this also include the Steam machines?
I'm not sure because I have heard several good things about them. And they are Alienware, so relevant.

All of the Steam Machines are not all that great tbh, the best option is always gonna be building your own, which can be learnt pretty quick with the magic of the internet

The dream right now is to get a new rig to replace the laptop

Hi, i'm somewhat new here but I would recommend Building your own PC :tu:, with stuff like the new GTX 1070/80 cards coming out this month a "console-crushing" PC is becoming much easier to get tbh. I would never getting an Alienware due to them having  :censored: PSUs and being vastly overpriced.

Anyway, my setup is as follows

GPU : GTX 760
CPU : I7 4790k
RAM : 16GB Corsair Vengeance
CASE : Corsair 500R

I'm aware of the widescreen patch and that requires you to use a replacement .EXE, as does GameMaster i am wondering if it would be in any way possible to combine the best of both and have 1920 x 1080 multiplayer?

Thanks anyway.

I'm aware of what causes coil whine and such (GPU rendering thousands of frames), just wondering if it happens to anyone else on the Menu

-Thanks  :tu:
