The Heroes of Star Wars Battlefront: Leia Organa

Lead Rebel teammates to victory against the Empire playing as Princess Leia

Playing as a Hero or Villain character in Star Wars™ Battlefront™ is not only about charging fearlessly into battle and laying waste to enemy troopers; it is also about defensive tactics and supporting your team. But why choose between the two? Playing as Princess Leia Organa, you'll experience it all.

This legendary royal will be a powerful asset to your Rebel team - and a menacing sight for Imperial troops. Here to provide you with detailed plans of the design process of Leia is Lead Hero Designer Jamie Keen.

"Leia is a character that succeeds through her fearless, strategic mind.  We can all remember moments when her quick-thinking blaster fire helped the Rebels out of trouble. Our goal for all the Hero characters has been to capture their essence and spirit from the original Star Wars™ film trilogy, and then convey that through gameplay. Doing that is more straightforward with characters wielding Lightsabers and Force abilities; it's obvious how to build gameplay around those things. Leia was trickier in that regard since she doesn't have a specific, favorite weapon, so we had to represent her in another way.

It's clear that Leia is a leader, so in Star Wars Battlefront she's very much about support play, buffing team members, and holding positions. Furthermore, players spawning close to her will spawn as Alderaan Honor Guards. That said, she's got a lot of offensive output as well. Just look at the original Star Wars trilogy: you'll notice that when Leia shoots at stormtroopers, she kills them quickly. We've based one of Leia's abilities on this: Trooper Bane.

A hard-hitting, boosted blaster shot, Trooper Bane is designed to be fired in single bursts. Now, this packs a real punch if you hit your target. A stormtrooper will get killed in one blast by Trooper Bane, and against Villains it will both deal a lot of damage and temporarily stun them.

A more defensive power is the Enhanced Squad Shield. This works like the regular Squad Shield Power Card but is far stronger: it can stop some Force abilities and Leia can even shoot out of it with Trooper Bane active, which ground troopers cannot. The Enhanced Squad Shield is ideal if you want to own a certain area of the map, such as an Uplink Station in Walker Assault. Simply deploy the shield and you can securely hold these key areas as a group thanks to Leia's cover.

Then there's Supply Drop, another power that will make Leia a key asset for Rebel forces. Activate this ability to drop a variety of power ups for ground troopers, or health boosts for other Hero characters. This can really help your team out, so make sure to use it as often as you can.

All these abilities provide a really powerful overall package. As Leia, you'll be buffing, healing, providing cover, and also be on the offensive a lot. If you use her right, she could be the most powerful Hero character. So how's that done? You should hang back and pick your ground. Use the map's natural cover together with the Enhanced Squad Shield, and force enemies to come to you through the channels you create.

Another good tip is to stay mobile when facing off with dangerous foes. If you're chased by someone like Darth Vader, use a hit-and-run tactic. Deploy your shield, fire off a Trooper Bane shot, and then try to shake your enemies. When the cooldown period is over, just set up shop again, and continue the fight.

That about covers it for Leia, but I'd like to leave you with one other tip that's applicable for all the Heroes and Villains in Star Wars Battlefront. Make sure to try the Hero Battles mission. This is a really good testbed, where you'll get a sense of the playstyle of Leia and all the other iconic characters. You'll learn the characteristics and timing of abilities and you'll get a feel for how different ones work together and how you should combine them."

The Heroes of Star Wars Battlefront: Han Solo

Take on the Empire as the galaxy's most legendary smuggler

As you know, Star Wars™ Battlefront™ lets you step into the shoes of many iconic characters from the vast Star Wars™ universe. Having covered off Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Boba Fett, we'll now turn our attention to the world's most beloved smuggler: Han Solo.

Helping us out is Lead Hero Designer Jamie Keen, who will tell you all about the notorious but heroic scoundrel and his role in Star Wars Battlefront.

"It's been incredibly fun to work on Han Solo for Star Wars Battlefront. He's such a likeable character, and turning his unique persona into gameplay features is a thrill when you're a Star Wars fan. We've also witnessed the love for this character in our playtests. Han's sardonic lines and emotes seem to put a smile on everyone's face.

Gameplay-wise, Han Solo is a gunslinger mainly designed for lone wolves and, echoing the beginning of the original Star Wars trilogy, he's not very dependent on others. Similar to a  Rebel trooper, but with a greatly boosted arsenal, Han Solo might be the easiest Hero character to get into. Offensive output, damage, and mobility – that's what this guy's about.

Han Solo has three useful abilities to even out the odds fighting the Empire and the first one is called Rapid Fire. Active for a few seconds, this lets Han fire his Blaster as fast you can pull the trigger, without having to worry about overheating. Try this out when taking on compact groups and mow down those stormtroopers! Rapid Fire is also really good for when villains like Darth Vader approaches. Use it at the right time and you'll lay down a ton of damage.

Han Solo has an element of fortune around him and that's where Lucky Shot, Han's second power, originates from. This is a "build up and release" power that hits really hard and is effective against vehicles. Lucky Shot works for infantry as well and is mighty enough to break Darth Vader's block.

Last but not least is the Shoulder Charge power. Remember the Star Wars™: Episode IV: A New Hope™ scene where Han charges into a group of stormtroopers? Then you'll know what to expect. Shoulder Charge is both an offensive and defensive move and can be used to quickly get in to battles – but also out of them.

Playing as Han Solo, you will run into equally famous and deadly characters. Some tips might be useful. Take Boba Fett for instance: he has a vertical advantage over Han thanks to the Jetpack, but Han's Lucky Shot can be used to take Boba out of the sky. If you manage to close in on Boba you can then finish him off with Rapid Fire.

As you know, hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster. That said, you shouldn't get cocky if you're facing Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine. These two will want to get in close, so go for a hit-and-run tactic. Use Shoulder Charge to quickly get in and out of situations and the evasive Combat Roll move to reestablish range and gain some precious time.

So there you have it. Whether you'll be defeating iconic adversaries in Heroes vs Villains, stopping AT-ATs in Walker Assault, or playing any other mode featuring Han Solo, we hope your time with him will be memorable."

The Villains of Star Wars Battlefront: Emperor Palpatine

Crush the rebellion with Force Lightening and supply drops

The dark side of the Force™ is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be... unnatural.

The playable Villains of Star Wars™ Battlefront™ we've shared with you so far, Darth Vader and Boba Fett, are truly menacing characters that will strike fear into any they encounter. But as we reveal the final Villain, we'll touch upon pure evil itself – and how you will get a taste of it. It's time to talk about Emperor Palpatine.

Lead Hero Designer Jamie Keen is here to tell us about a character who's deceptive, immensely powerful, and shocking in more than one way.

"Based on how he's been characterized and how he plays, Emperor Palpatine might be my personal favorite character in Star Wars Battlefront. But getting to that point has been a challenge.

We wanted many different things with the Emperor. We wanted him to be very mobile, but also about deception and fooling people that he's fragile and weak. As you've seen in the original Star Wars™ trilogy, Palpatine pretends to be a weak old man, when he in fact is extremely powerful. That two-faced side was something we wanted to convey in gameplay and the Emperor's abilities.

Palatine's main attack is the iconic Force Lightning, which does a lot of damage to troops within reach. The lightning also comes in the more powerful Chain Lightning form, which is an area of effect ability dealing damage to enemies around you in all directions.

Another power is called Force Dash and is (pun intended) shocking in another way. When Palpatine activates Force Dash he'll move extremely fast in his current direction, which can be a real nasty surprise for Rebel soldiers. We've seen some players get really startled when they have been aiming down the sights at Palpatine and suddenly see him right up close.

In contrast to these abilities, Palpatine is also the Empire team's support Villain, capable of providing powerups for others and himself. Thanks to his command of the Empire, Palpatine can use the Imperial Resources ability to hand out powerups to team mates and health boosts to other Villains.

So is there a good strategy playing as Palpatine? A hit-and-run tactic is always good: get in close but don't get stuck. Jump into fights, be aggressive with your lightning attacks, and then jump out again using the Force Dash. Just be careful where you jump in, since running into five or more enemies spells trouble.

The Emperor also plays a support role for his team. It's tempting to simply run towards the center and use Force Lightning to fry everything that moves, but try to play a bit more defensively and use your support abilities. Other players can also spawn close to Palpatine as the more powerful Shock Troopers, a tactic you should have in mind and utilize. Master all this, and your team will be quite safe from your pitiful Rebel enemies.

I hope you will have as much fun dealing out Chain Lightning and Imperial Resources as we've had developing Emperor Palpatine. Use the tips in this post wisely and you'll be the unstoppable force of the Galactic Empire when Star Wars Battlefront arrives."

There is a petition that was started by Perri Mitchell on Change.org to add a server browser to Star Wars Battlefront. To complete the petition, the goal needed to reach is 2,500 signatures. So far 2,160 people have signed the petition; only 340 more signatures are needed. As you can see this is very close to success. Please help save Star Wars Battlefront by going here: https://www.change.org/p/electronic-arts-dice-ea-please-add-a-server-browser-for-battlefront

Another Star Wars Battlefront remake is also being developed by a team of fans of the original game. Star Wars: Battlecry will be the spiritual successor to the first Battlefront game, but because news about it seems to be flying under the radar, it is difficult to get more information on it. So far, I know that it will be created on the CryEngine. For those of you not familiar with the CryEngine, it is the same game engine used in one of the most graphic intensive games of it's time, Crysis. The Crysis series, created by Crytek, and published by EA, has always been known for it's revolutionary visuals of it's time. Even the best PC's could not max out the graphics of the first Crysis game when it came out. For this reason, I have no doubt that Star Wars: Battlecry will be visually stunning.

The only reason that this may end up as a better remake of Star Wars Battlefront is due to a few reasons. First off, this is being made by a dedicated team of fans who are using there spare time to create something that resembles the original game. The second reason is the fact that it will be free (or so I have heard). This is all assuming, though, that the even complete the game, work out any bugs, and that it will look as good as we all hope. If it stays true to the original game (same mechanics and maps), it should no doubt become the next true Battlefront game....but that is a big IF.

So, I have been hearing from a lot of the riders of the hate-train for the new Star Wars Battlefront. I still remember having long conversations with friends when we found out the game was being made, and made by DICE. The first bit I kept hearing from haters was this: "OH GOD! I HOPE IT IS NOT A BATTLEFIELD RE-SKIN!" This seemed to be the number  1 concern. People all over were fearing another Battlefield game with a Star Wars theme. This fear is very irrational. The primary reason for this is because of the bad launch of Battlefield 4. Since then many people have grown a hate for the Battlefield franchise. Now I want to address all of this, but first, some history of where I come from in this issue, and where I stand in all of this.

I love Star Wars Battlefront. It was the first multiplayer FPS I have ever gotten. I remember spending countless hours on the map Bespin: Platforms (best map BTW). I eventually went out and got the second game when it came out and loved it just as much. I would play both game back-to-back. However, most of my friends at the time were more into the modern FPS games. So I wanted to be more like my friends who were playing games like COD: MW2. Swimming through the internet, I tried many FPS demos I found. The first was Delta Force: Black Hawk Down. I downloaded all of the game demos in that franchise. They were ok, but not great. I stumbled upon a game called Battlefield 2. It looked interesting enough, so I went for it. I downloaded the demo, and jumped right in. My first impression was how similar the game was to Star Wars Battlefront. The core game mechanics, and controls were almost identical. Since then I have bought and played every Battlefield game all the way up to Hardline.

The thing that got me so into the Battlefield Franchise was how similar it was to Star Wars Battlefront, my all-time favorite shooter. Now, I want to make this statement. A lot of people who hear what I am about to say will most likely disagree, but it is a solid opinion that I feel strongly about. I am willing to put myself out there completely open to criticism. Are you ready for this....

Star Wars Battlefront is and always has been a "re-skin" of Battlefield

...WOW. Now let me explain before you guys start throwing rotten tomatoes at me. It is not EXACTLY the same game. There are several differences, like the HUD, the theme, the vehicles, and weapons. However, the core of both games are very similar. They are both, semi-slow paced games in which teamwork is essential for victory, there are land and air vehicles, an the soldier classes are similar. I use to play Battlefield 2 and Star Wars Battlefront back-to-back, and I can say from experience, they are very close game.

I believe that most people don't know exactly what they want. Because of the fear of another broken Battlefield game, fans are trying to keep Star Wars Battlefront as far from Battlefield as they can in fear of the same problems.

I have also played the Closed Alpha of the new Star Wars Battlefront, and I can say from experience, it is almost nothing like the original game. They only thing that makes it similar is the theme of Star Wars. The gameplay, HUD, and core mechanics are entirely different. If anything, the new game is a Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare Star Wars re-skin. I have played Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare (which was a fun game), and the new Star Wars Battlefront seems closer to that game.

So, in conclusion, the new Star Wars Battlefront should have been designed more like a Battlefield game because that is what the original game was like. It is too late now for DICE to change the game that much, but lets hope they make the sequel a bit better.

Just for the record, I will be buying the new game and playing it. I am not hating on the new game. I am looking forward to it. But it could have been better if they made the game more like the original ones.

Do you agree with me, do you disagree. Leave a comment below. I am always interested to hear what people have to say about my ideas. I am very open-minded about other peoples' opinions.

I am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone else out there got into the Closed Alpha. I had a ton of fun, and I want to hear what you guys thought of it. Did you enjoy it, did you hate it, what is your take on the experience?

I believe it is now safe to talk about the Alpha, since so much gameplay of the Closed Alpha has been released on YouTube.

I will also be in the Open Beta. Can't wait for it.

Hey everyone. I need some help with an Eyefinity issue in Star Wars Battlefront II. Here is the problem:

In order to set resolutions properly on my setup, I had to launch the game via desktop shortcut with the target command "/win" to launch the game in "Windowed Mode". Once in the game, I selected the resolution of 5280x1050, so I could utilize all 3 of my monitors correctly. I launched a map and the game loaded in just fine. The problem only started once I started running around in the game. The spawn screen looks fine, it's the in-game HUD that is screwed up. The HUD items (crosshair, minimap, player names, enemy icons, etc...) are all distorted and located in the wrong spaces on the screen.

I will upload screenshots illustrating the issue.

I had issues in the first game as well. In Star Wars Battlefront I, the screen was stretched, but the HUD was perfectly fine. In Star Wars Battlefront II, it's the opposite; the screen is not stretched, but the HUD is screwed up.

I would appreciate it if someone could provide me with a solution, like a way to customize the HUD.

Here are some details that may help in answering the problem:
GPU: AMD Sapphire Tri-X R9 290X 4Gb GDDR5
CPU: AMD FX-8370e (OC 3.8Ghz)
RAM: 8Gb DDR3 1600Mhz
Display Drivers: Catalyst Control Center 15.7.1
OS: Windows 10 Pro (x64)
Star Wars Battlefront II (Steam Version): v1.1
SWBFII Res: 5280x1050

Please take a look at the screenshots below before you reply so that you understand the issue a bit better.
I can provide more information if necessary.

Thank you for any help.

Hey everyone. I need some help with an Eyefinity issue in Star Wars Battlefront. Here is the problem:

I used the "Battlebelk's Custom Resolution Launcher" mod to finally select widescreen resolutions. Resolutions, such as 1920x1080 appear fine, however, with a triple monitor display and a resolution of 5280x1050, the gameplay screen is very, very streched out. And no, I am not talking about the side monitors being stretched, as they as suppose to be. The ENTIRE display is stretched out from monitor 1 on the left, through monitor 2 in the middle, and all the way to monitor 3 on the right. The gameplay is incredibly distorted and impossible to play like this.

Interestingly, the HUD, menu items, and font are NOT stretched out. They appear just fine.

I assume the issue has something to do with Field Of View (FOV). I thought at first that it was an aspect ratio problem, but since the HUD, menu, and fonts are not stretched, the problem has to do with the ingame camera.

I would appreciate it if someone could provide me with a solution, like a way to change the FOV.

Here are some details that may help in answering the problem:
GPU: AMD Sapphire Tri-X R9 290X 4Gb GDDR5
CPU: AMD FX-8370e (OC 3.8Ghz)
RAM: 8Gb DDR3 1600Mhz
Display Drivers: Catalyst Control Center 15.7.1
OS: Windows 10 Pro (x64)
Star Wars Battlefront version: 1.3 beta
SWBF Mod: Battlebelk's Custom Resolution Launcher
SWBF Custom Res: 5280x1050

I have also posted 3 screenshots below.
I can provide more information if necessary.

Thank you for any help.
