Sometimes, at the end of a game, the "Done" button doesn't seem to load. When this happens, I usually exit the game and try to join about a minute later. This usually works. Although, I'm not sure if the server restarts itself or the "Done" button just takes forever to load those times. And it seems to happen on both GameRanger and SWBFSpy.

The times it takes for whatever fixes it (restart or button eventually loads?) varies. When players have to wait for 2+ minutes, they usually begin to leave, and it really kills the experience. So is this a known bug? And is there anything I can do to stop it?

Okay, here's me going on about ping again, but hear me out.

Lately, I've been having slight ping spikes on my SWBF2 SWBFSpy server that we use to scrimmage on, and in an attempt to ensure that's it's just my ISP and not that particular NFO server, I set up a test server with a different VDS. I'm quite confident that it's just my ISP, so ignore the ping spikes.

Anyway, the crazy part is that my ping on the test server is about 10-15ms lower than the other server! The even crazier part is that both VDSs are from NFO, are located in Chicago, have the same specs (2 cores, 2 GB), and are both using Anyder's 40tps server manager. I tried doing a TraceRT to both servers and got identical pings! Nothing, that I know of, is different about these VDSs or the game server settings, yet the in-game pings are drastically different!

Even when I got my first VDS from NFO back in the summer, I've always gotten pings ranging from 93-100ms. On the test server, I get 79-88ms!

Also, it takes 1 second to join my normal server while it takes 0 seconds to join my lower-ping test server.

Please help. I'd like to know what could be causing my test server to have 10-15ms lower ping (which is a lot!) when the servers are exactly the same, as far as I know.

The only difference is the OS. My normal server is running Windows 2008 R2 while my lower-ping test server is running Windows 2012 R2. But I've ran Windows 2012 R2 on other VDSs and the ping remains normal (93-100ms).

EDIT: I don't know if this makes a difference, but the lower-ping server was originally set up on GameRanger where in-game pings are about 10-15ms lower than SWBFSpy. I'm getting about the same ping on the test server that I usually get on a Chicago GameRanger server. I don't know how that would affect the server's ping calculation. Just a thought.

I know it's possible. I just don't know how to do it. Can someone reply with a tutorial about how to create a modded SWBF2 dedicated server? I'm surprised that this information isn't already out there somewhere. I want to make a BFX dedicated server for me and some friends to play on. Thanks!

Requests / REQUEST: SWBF2 16:9 HUD Fix
September 09, 2016, 07:27:37 PM
I am requesting a mod that achieves the following:

  • Fixes the grossly inaccurate reticle position at 16:9 resolutions. If you've played SWBF2 at 1080p, you know what I'm talking about. The lasers land about 1/2 inch/13 mm (on my screen, anyway) above the center of the reticle. This is by far the most annoying part of playing in widescreen, and if anyone is to actually make this mod, please fix this if not anything else.
  • Fixes the Weapons/Health/Stamina section as well as the Chat. This is very nitpicky and doesn't really bother me that much, but if you have the time and desire, go ahead and make Weapons/Health/Stamina section look less smushed and put it in its proper location (lower), and make the Chat less tiny and put it in its proper location (higher).

Thank you to anyone who considers making this mod!!! If it is made, there will finally be proper widescreen support for SWBF2!

I tried this...
Quote3) You can also remove flags using hex edit on the existing files
open the map file in hex editor, and search for com_item_flag, and between what looks like "XFRM0" and "PROP" there is about 50 bytes of data - obscure this data by writing just random letters and numbers over it (don't overwrite xfrm0 and prop, just the data in between those bits)
those little bytes of data is object coordinate and changing it puts the flag somewhere only god knows.

For 2 flag levels, do this for each instance of the flag you find. Usually f3 in hex tools finds next instance.
...but the flags are still in the map, just not where they're supposed to be (i.e. in the walls, undeground). I still get the blinking icon, and the bots seem to get distracted by them.

I've played a game where a guy removed the flags entirely. Do you guys know how to do this? I'm going for a TDM-style gamemode.

Can anyone point where I can change the tick rate to something like 60tps or 90tps?

Earlier today, I was playing on my 40tps GameRanger server (Don't worry, I haven't given up on SWBF2 SWBFSpy at all. Playing on GR has made me realize how horrible the software really is.) with about 20-30 players on it, and I noticed that the hit registry was HORRIBLE. At times, I could run up behind a guy and shoot him in the back with a shotgun at point blank range, and it wouldn't do any damage at all. Those were extreme cases though. Most of the time, I would shoot a guy with a shotgun and it'd only do maybe 0-25% of his health per shot. And no, it's not lag. I had an 80-85ms ping and very smooth-looking player movements the entire time. I know this is bad hit registry because earlier, I was 1v1ing a guy on my server (only 2 players on it) and even at medium ranges, I could 1-shot him with the shotgun. I could even 1-shot him in the air when he was using the Dark Trooper!

My theory is that past maybe 5-10 players, the hit registry of a 40tps server starts to become worse than 30tps, which is obviously what it was designed to run at. Sure, 40tps is STABLE at way past 5-10 players, but I think the hit registry starts to drop off.

Before I compare 40tps to 30tps, and subject my players to even worse hit registry, I wanted you guys' opinions. Does this even make sense? Can a higher than supported tick rate such as 40tps actually cause worse hit registry at higher player counts? Or is this just the result of SWBF2's poor net-code?

I decided to try out hosting a server on GameRanger, but the server keeps crashing at the higher player counts. Last night, there were about 22-25 players on my server. Everything went smoothly for a while until it finally crashed. There was no lag whatsoever, not even right before the crash. Then today, at about 14 players, the server crashed again, unexpectedly. What's going on? How do I fix it? Other servers on GameRanger have 32 players on them and don't crash, so why does it do it to me? Please help. Everyone is having a good time, and boom. The server crashes, and everyone's game closes. It's disappointing for everybody.

Would a 50tps or 60tps server be playable? Is there a player limit before it becomes unplayable like how Andyer said that after 32 players, a 40tps server becomes unplayable? Or would 50/60tps server be unplayable regardless of player count.

I see that the TWD server is 60tps, so can a normal server do it?

I just installed Battlefront I and wanted to create a custom resolution (1920x1440 4:3). I went to this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC and it wasn't there. I tried searching the entire Battlefront folder, and no items matched my search. What do I do/where is it? I attached an image of my _LVL_PC folder to prove to you all that it's not there.

I just bought a VPS through NFOServers.com and got the dedicated server software up and running. The server is called, "SWBF Community Server." I saw that there was a lack of good public servers, so I decided to create one and have it set up in Chicago so that most people in the continental U.S. can have good pings. I just got done playing a 4 player match (I know, it's not a lot but still!), and I can already tell that SWBFSpy is leaps and bounds better than GameRanger. The hit detection is way better (but still not perfect), and there is no FPS lag. I just have a few questions and minor issues with my server.

First let me give you the specs of my server:
Company: NFO
CPU: 2 core
RAM: 2 GB

  • Are these specs good to host a full 64 player server (even though it will likely never go that high), or should I think about upgrading? I want no lag whatsoever, even at 64 players.
  • My ping to my server in the server browser ranges from 60ms to 110ms, but in-game, my ping ranges from 100ms to 120ms. Also, on NFO's website I checked my ping to Chicago (premium), and it was 60 ms consistantly. What's up with all these vastly different pings?
  • I keep getting this announcement: "This server is managed by SWBF2SM from blackbagops.com" even though I never set this. How can I get rid of it?
  • What happens if I turn the Host Sim Rate up to 30? I want the best hit detection possible, but I heard that this might cause other problems. Is this true?

In my opinion, Battlefront I is an overall better game than Battlefront II, so I've been thinking about buying it. Before I do, I want to know if the community is larger or smaller than Battlefront II's. What can I expect?

EDIT: Thanks for the info! I just ordered it.

I want to try to set up a SWBF2 server on SWBFSpy using the dedicated server software, so I actually know how to do it before buying the VPS. I need a step-by-step tutorial (as detailed as possible) that covers everything from getting the SWBF2 dedicated server software to portforwarding. I'm not very server savvy, so after looking around the forums for how to do it, I got really confused about what dedicated server software I need that will work with SWBFSpy, how to set up the server, and how/where to portforward for Battlefront II. Please don't just link me to other forum posts. If you can, compile (copy/paste) all the steps, information, and download links into 1 reply.

So far, all I have is SWBFSpy installed.

All I could find on this forum was the SWBF1 dedicated server software on a post from 2009, so I had to find the SWBF2 dedicated server software on some website (does the original dedicated server software made for GameSpy work for SWBFSpy?). I installed it and started it in DSManager without any configuration but didn't see it in the server browser on Battlefront II SWBFSpy. I thought I might just need to port forward but where do I do it? Do I port forward in Windows, or in my router, or both? And what are the ports I need to open for Battlefront II multiplayer? I want to start from scratch though, so I deleted everything.

In short, this seems very complicated to me, so please be very thorough in your tutorial.

edit:  Okay, I figured out how to portforward on my router and on my firewall. All I need to know is just what ports to open. I'm sure that saves a lot of explaining.

Hi. I would like to host a high bandwidth, low ping SWBF2 server, but my internet connection is definitely not fast enough to host one that wouldn't be laggy as hell.

So my questions are:

1. Are there any game hosting companies that would host a SWBF2 server through Game Ranger (which currently has the largest SWBF2 community)? If not, can I rent a dedicated server from a hosting company and host a Game Ranger server on it?

2. Are there any game hosting companies that would host a SWBF2 server through your SWBFSpy dedicated hosting software? I would much rather host a Game Ranger server because every time I check the SWBFSpy servers, they're always empty. But if no company will host SWBF2 through GR, SWBFSpy would be a Plan B.

3. I found a game hosting company called Branzone.com which lists "Star Wars: Battlefront 2" as one of the games they'll host. I was wondering how they actually host for it? Do they do it through Game Ranger? Do they do it through SWBFSpy? How do they host SWBF2 if the GameSpy servers shut down a while ago?
