Title: Steam servers?
Post by: Paksupepe on December 18, 2020, 02:39:59 PM
Hi all, long time no swbf..
i noticed that at least the Steam version of the game has brought back the multiplayer without needing gamespy. I wonder whether you have noticed it since it's probably the only place where the game has been updated. There are actually people playing it most of the time some of which also seem to be new to the game.(noobs lol)

Yes, we host servers there and provide feedback to the coder that compiled it.

We also still run our SWBFspy replacement for Gamespy.

We do have dedicated servers in both SWBFSpy & Steam (SWBF1 & SWBF2) - EU & USA ;)

There's a couple different guides, but the main requirement is to have a PC that stays up 24/7.  Whether that be through a company or a home server is up to you.
For SWBFspy (our 1.2 Gamespy replacement), it's just a matter of downloading the dedicated server software (hosted here) and setting up a server (there's a stickied thread on the Multiplayer board I think, with settings, etc).
For Steam, it's a little bit more convoluted, but there's threads like this one that go through it step by step:

Edit: I see GDH replied on the other thread as well with all the guides.
