Title: What bugs should be fixed in the Steam/Gog version?
Post by: vick on July 28, 2020, 06:25:20 AM
Hi All,

I know there are still enough problems in the Steam/Gog version,
But if anybody can write a detailed description of the bug here it will help to fix more issues.

It would be nice, if you can to provide :
- Steps To Reproduce (if you can);
- Screenshots, shorts video (if possible);
- Detailed descriptions of the bug;

Also, please provide your hardware specifications, including native monitor resolution.

Thanks.

UPDATE. The following bugs should be fixed in the next patch:
- Team chat crash;
- Incorrect chat behaviour with admin console;
- Freeze on the game server list;
- Crash on GalaxyMultiplayer screen after previous MP game was ended;

well if you have contact with devs please show them this. to devs please fix era fallbacks the game fails to check for DEFAULT_MODEL_MEMORY
the new update broke support for adding new eras trough the shell when clicking on a new era and trying to launch it into the game it just comes up with a black screen.  to reproduce add any era into the shell and try to launch it in instant action you will get a black screen with a back button on the bottom left hand side but pressing it doesent do anything.

The master server list still freezes but not often now. The single biggest issue for me is that you can't use dedicated servers because teamchat crashes them.

What is supposed to happen:
Press crouch button once: Crouch
After a short time (one to two seconds) if you tap the crouch button, it should go back to "Stand".
What is happening:
Prone should only occur when double tapping the crouch button.
There is no way to come from CrouchToStand, it always goes CrouchToProne.

Other issues:
The master server list still freezes for me as well.  It was better for a short time, and now seems to be crashing more often.  This seems to be random.

These are my top 2 issues with the patch as it stands.  I'm glad they fixed the view distance issue though.

Other issues (not as important to me):
I agree with Gdh as well, dedicated server options would be appreciated (and can run from the main exe) but anyone using teamchat crashes them, and makes them not as viable.  Also, I've noticed the server I run randomly quits showing up on the server listings.  The Pandemic devs released a stripped down exe that could run dedicated servers with ease, and also had some specific commands that could be used.

wsa30h's issue stems from the game comparing a list of expected lua files in the exe to the mission lua.  I am probably the person to talk to about this because I did extensive testing to come to this conclusion (and have also used Cheat Engine to verify the most probable cause).  This is a modders' only dilemma when adding new content.

PC specs:
I am running an AMD Ryzen 3600 with 16 GB of RAM, and my native monitor resolution is 1920x1080.

Thanks. More questions for you.

What do you mean by "master server list freezes"? Just enter to multiplayer->Gog multiplayer->Join and game freezes? Or game list is not updating anymore?

About Team chat crashes. What parameters did you use for dedicated server? Or you connecting to any dedicated server, and if you as a client are trying to type somewhat in team chat, it crashes the server?

What command line arguments do you want to use on the server?

Please provide more information how do you want to add new eras to the game. Or if you have any other issues with adding mods.

It's better than it used to be but if you stay on the server list too long or refresh it can freeze the whole game.

With dedicated servers, if anyone uses team chat it crashes the server.

battlefront.exe /win /norender /noteamdamage /autonet dedicated /resolution 320 240 /nosound /noaim /tps 60 /gamename BOBclanServer /playerlimit 32 /playercount 2 /bots 0 /difficulty 2 /throttle 3072 /sideselect /spawn 5 tat2i 100 100 rhn2a 100 100 kam1c 100 100 bes2a 100 100

This is the server I was running on Steam.  If I use the exact same settings, except use /autonet pc, the teamchat error does not occur.  With /autonet dedicated (which worked fine on the old servers), the teamchat crash error occurs.  I can take videos later today.

I cross-referenced the old server exe to the new one, I thought some of the commands were missing, but it seems not (except for /unlimitedammo and /invincible, but I thought some of the networking ones were missing.  Sorry!).

Most of my crashes occur after I press the "Galaxy Multiplayer" button, but if I try to refresh on the server list, it can crash as well.

Like I said, wsa30h's error comes from adding new eras through the shell.lvl.  I released a shell.lvl and common.lvl builder for the Steam version of the game about a month or two ago that has reconstructed scripts (and yes, they work, I painstakingly reversed the munged bytecode compared to what we had).  To add eras, the only thing that needs done is to add an era to ifs_sp_vbutton_layout.buttonlist in ifs_sp_era.lua.
I could click on Bespin Platforms, then when I select an era, "New War" or "n", it will populate the missionlist with bes1n. In 1.2 and every other version I tried (except Steam and GOG), if it had a mission in the mission.lvl (so I have an era "New War" or tagged "n"), it would launch.  If the mission did not exist, the game would crash.  The Steam/GOG exe doesn't even get far enough to try launching the mission - I came to the conclusion that this is because there's a table where DEFAULT_MODEL_MEMORY_PLUS is assigned in the exe, which is the only place that the mission selected is compared in the exe.  (Once again, I can create a video of this later today.)

Thanks.
- The team chat crash was found and will be fixed with other chat issues.
- Still trying to reproduce game list freezes (how long I should be on game list screen?).

It's not good way to parse and rebuild lvl files especially after every patch.
What for you are patching shell.lvl and common lvl files? Just for adding eras, or some other mods?
Maybe I can make it easier for adding new mods?
By the way, where I can to download patched shell.lvl, common.lvl for last Steam/Gog release, and map for new era?

I will appreciate if you make a video.

You can go from crouch to stand already, when crouching, don't press the crouch button again, press the jump button, it will make you stand instead of jumping (if you're crouching).

Yeah, we know this.
The problem comes in when you've been playing the game for 15 years and the controls were changed with no reason for it, and no fix is going to come for it.

When going in first person the mini map glitches.

Vehicle sensitivity doesn't work.

Sabotage on conquest mode doesn't work.

Sabotage on Conquest mode only works on general vehicles when Friendly Fire is turned on.  (Command vehicles it works either way.)

Vehicle Sensitivity is controlled by framerate.  Use vsync and turn your monitor refresh rate down.

I don't know about the minimap issue.

Hello there! What I would like to see fixed in Bf1

1. Is Gamepad Mapping. In the past you could bind your controls do on the disc version. This version you can`t bind them to what you want.

2. Is Native Resolution For loading screens and the movie cutscenes.

3. Flicker High to low poly units. When theres too many players they all start to go low poly. Just infantry or Players that happen.

4. Jabbas palace map preview restored.

Thats is all! :)

About the 4th point, I noticed that the Map Preview not only dissapears on Jabba's, some other AddOn maps such as the SWBF2 Conversions I made includes flythrough movies which doesn't show on Steam version. I hope they could fix someday...

Probably not.  The BF2 fiasco seems to have burned that bridge.

He fixed a couple errors on the Steam version but there were many others he said he couldn't fix. I gave up on them fixing this version a while ago.

id love to mention right off the bat. This games hit boxes are way out of wack id say anyone can put the difficulty on max and see for themselves at close range esp.

the game has Ai also just standing around on the outskirts of some maps like example
empire jet trooper sometimes on bepsin cloud city always just chilling somewhere on outskirts. i think this may be multiplayer problem when much ai are used

the multiplayer server 1000tick on steam crashes sometimes (not always)  jabba palace should be taken out of that cycle if possible i believe(thats just me)
im sorry if these dont come across as bugs
