Given 1.2 was the last stable version, I'd wager it's that. SWBF2 reactivated multiplayer so if it's true I'd expect this to have reactivated multiplayer too.
Thankfully, it won't interfere as much with the modding side of things as it did with SWBF2 (what with it overriding the Unofficial 1.3 patch functionality)
Remember when GoG got the SW licence and released about a dozen games that year? Then subsequently released just one title annually after that? Man, it seemed like Battlefront would take forever to come out!

I'm just going to pray that this Steam release was premature and that it was meant to coincide with the GoG release--which is when the GoG online service would start.
What the user above said. I hope they are just testing the waters to see how it does before committing to restore online multiplayer. Either way, it might result in a significant increase in players on the swbfspy servers, assuming someone can get that working with this new Steam version.
Edit: I would recommend you guys posting links to this website on the community area for the game so that people are aware this place exists at all. Doing so might also send a message to Disney/GOG that online multiplayer is in demand.
In the meantime I prepared what people need to access the current SWBFSPY servers.
I left a review with the proper tools and information as early as possible

I was able to play the steam version with my native resolution which is 1440p but after applying the patch, it only goes to 1080p in the options. How can I get my res back to 1440p?

Don't use the downloaded EXE. Use the Steam EXE, and hex edit it to use the community servers.
I tried this and it failed. Steam said there an error trying to run the game. If that worked, I would have created my guide around it.
EDIT: I did more experimenting and came up with a complete alternative that should satisfy everyone. Go to my Steam BF1 guide I posted above for instructions.

You might be able to force the game to use that resolution using launch options, but it will likely be very stretched in-game.

While I myself still hold out hope that they will indeed eventually restore official multiplayer to the game, I don't think it's as necessary as you believe. You see, the SWBF2 SWBFSpy servers are only as lowly populated as they are because of the already existing official servers for that game. Before it got restored, SWBF2Spy was actually fairly active and was only second to GameRanger in terms of player count, or at least that's what I perceived at the time.

If what GOG did to SWBF2 when they brought back multiplayer for that game has taught us anything, it's that movie files are massive, as shown by the 3-4 GB worth of files they ended up adding just from the multi-language movie files that they added. I do not think multiplayer on steam will allow dedicated servers for the game, you may connect with other people by self hosting, but Anthony's guide remains the best alternative to host game servers for now.

Hey all, it's been a long time since I've been here but I've come back after hearing about the release of the 2004 game on Steam.
I have hopes that they will release multiplayer support for this game as they did with the 2005 game. The 2004/2005 games were my childhood and I hope to continue playing them. I was never interested in buying the game on disc, hoping for a digital release someday and it happened.
I just have one question though, I guess rolling and sprinting was never a feature in this game? I can't remember back to when I originally played it as a kid. But, I can't find any options to sprint/roll. And, when I pause the game the menu buttons are super small. I have it on my normal resolution of 1920/1080. I'm guessing there are mods to fix this?

Rolling is A/D (left/right) and Spacebar (jump). There is no sprint feature in BF1.
As far as the menus, I don't play in 1920/1080, so there may be someone who knows better.

The menu buttons are small because 1080p is not an original resolution for the game. It's something I've learned to deal with in the game and I prefer it over the black bars on either side of the screen in the default resolutions on a widescreen monitor.

I am pretty sure he included an extended radar mod in the files he provided. I will confirm first but if true, then we will be able to report the guide he made for distributing cheats.

Ive told everyone to downvote it and report it. Anthony should really make his guide on the guides list to avoid that dude from screwing up a good thing like hes tryna do now

The thing is that even if we report his guide for distributing cheats, it's somewhat unlikely the moderators of Steam will download and set up the files he provided to verify if he is indeed giving cheats away or not. I am holding out hope that if enough people report him for it that the moderators will take it down anyways.
Edit: Of course it's also entirely possible I am misunderstanding what he's saying and he is in fact not distributing anything nefarious.

Sorry to interrupt but I was told that we can get the game in windowed mode but is there any way to make the window bigger? Cause right now it's a small window when the game boots up.
I think when using /win you can set the resolution (default 640x480 maybe?) Try to set it like this: battlefront.exe /win /resolution 1024 768

Read the directions here and then download if needed. I don't know if it works with windowed mode but I can try it in a little bit.
window mode works for SWBF1 but not with resolutions settings like that
Need to use windowed mode myself seeing that upon map load, my game just closes itself for some weird reason :confused:
Now I run it in windowed mode in conjunction with Magic Borderless (available on Steam) to make it automatically full screen on game launch and play it that way :cheer:
There is probably something with regards to my full screen settings that the game doesn't like when loading maps. Still trying to figure it out, but at least its better than nothing.
BTW, the /fixedrate cmd line option is quite nice as I can set my refresh rate to 144Hz to match that of my screen 8)

His guide is up, yes. Though, he really does come unstuck by posting all this on Steam given they have the option of reporting a profile for cheating. (Yes, I know he's probably reading this since he can't help himself. No, I do not care what he puts on his site. And to be honest, "failed Nazi troll" has become so used by him, it actually gives me the giggles every time he says it now - he needs some better insults, because 'fail Nazi troll/mental health issues' has pretty much become an in-joke at this point)

You've summed up what everyone thinks of him. Just report him and use the proper guide by Anthonybf2 and hopefully steam will block him soon.
