That's a very loaded question. Firstly, there's no way to un-munge data meaning that you can't edit mods or maps unless you have the assets to those mods or maps. In order to obtain the models from a mod you will need to search for that mods asset pack (if it was released at all).

Once you have the models you need to convert them from .msh to .obj if you want to edit them in blender. You will need XSI softimage for this. You will also need to install the ZE tools plugin:

You will also need the SWBF mod tools for either SWBF1 or SWBF2. Are you changing Battlefront 1 maps or Battlefront 2 maps? Which would you like to edit exactly?

naah, that's not 100% correct. There are .lvl decompilers/extractors. You can extract textures etc.

And afaik you can use SWBFviewer to export .msh to .wrl and then import it into Blender.
However, really extending or modifying a mod may only be possible by using the assets (if released) as swgaming1015 mentioned.

Which mods do you want to modify?

I've heard of .lvl decompilers before but I didn't know they could be used to extract models. Is there a side .lvl decompiler I can download?

Despite having them, I think Led doesn't want us to post such files here...
