Title: Backup and Prep for Forum Aracade
Post by: Led on September 06, 2013, 06:47:29 PM
I am backing up our website files over the weekend, then I will attempt to install an Arcade for our forum.  Games like duck hunt, asteroids, etc.

Hopefully it will liven the place up a bit.

As far as arcade goes, give me Mortal Kombat, and I'l be set for hours!

Or even Super Metroid, or perhaps some FPS games? :D

This is super cool.

I hope it isn't a bandwidth eater.

Err, these games are more like Frogger  ;)

Here is a list of games--if you spot one you like, let me know what gamepack to grab:

These are all flash games.  I talked to the website guru JediKiller, and these game should not eat up webhost resources.

Yay!  :) Can we set a poll to see what game pack the community wants? I also noticed pack 16 has a star wars game.

EDIT: I like game pack 2 the best. pack 16 is runner up

These is what I will tentatively upload:

1
2
6
13
16
18*
22

*note sure if I can get this one to work; it is phpbb format, dunno about that

I may not activate all the games in the packs, but we can certainly get ones we want.

The arcade installed fine on my test forum, but had some issue on this one.  Jedikiller has graciously offered to help us out in getting it installed.

hmmm
What format do the games use? (like besides the script that loads them. Are they in something like SWF?)

Maybe I'm being impatient but when do you think the arcade will be released? Sorry if I am but I'm kinda curious. ;)

The installation did not go smoothly.  It will take a php script expert (JediKiller) to get it going.  It worked like a charm on my test forum, but we apparently have something that conflicts with it.

JK said he will give it a shot soon.

That game was called Adventure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventure_(Atari_2600)).
QuoteAdventure is a 1979 maze video game for the Atari 2600 video game console and is considered the first action-adventure game. Its creator, Warren Robinett, introduced the first widely known Easter egg to the gaming world.

My dad still has a pile of our old Atari stuff. We broke so many joysticks on that thing. (not on Adventure though.)

Chances are it will not be Star Wars at all. It may be like the game with an overhead view and you pilot your 2D ship and destroy asteroids, or like that game where you destroy metal bugs while avoiding their fire by going left and right. I don't know their names sorry. Tirpider knows what games I am referring to, right? I mean, It COULD be actual Star Wars but I doubt it. Some with Duck Hunt, Tetris, etc.

Sorry for the broken dreams.

Sorry I haven't gotten around to getting things set up for you guys yet. I've got a huge workload right now and am struggling to get some free time.

I'll probably get things running this weekend.

Why don't you just make an arcade section and embed a couple of flash games?

Isn't that what we are doing? or, where trying to do?

No, you wouldn't have to backup a hole website for that xD
That would be as simple as creating another page and adding some html embed area and copy pasting the game codes in.

I think we're actually trying to get the games into the database, rather than just pulling the data from another website. If we were to do that, and their website went down, the game would be gone, and we couldn't play anymore.
