Topics - Gold Man

#21
Hey guys, since I've been active like crazy on the forums due to all the hype the Unity project is giving me, I felt like posting a bit of one of my personal works of literature on here. The story gives my ego (ego=Gold Man) a bit of a more serious backdrop, sort of like a hitman or assassin. Anyways, here's the first chapter of it. If you guys like it, I might try to post up the other chapters (I have currently made 6 chapters worth of writing on this).

Please note: I am in no way an official author of any sort, so I apologize if my writing isn't exactly "professional". I also have no official title for it, though my working title is: Gold Man: Gun for Hire. I will also accept constructive criticism for my work, as it will help me to perfect the other chapters I've already written.

Chapter 1:
It was another dark, rainy night in the slums of Techno Vista.
He just sat there, waiting patiently across from the local nightclub, hoping his target would show up as suspected. He saw him enter the place, and he knew that no customers were allowed to sleep there like it was some hotel. He knew he had to come out of there eventually. Unfortunately, Gold Man's patience was wearing down.

He was planning to run right down there, barge into the club, hunt down his target with extreme prejudice, and kill him where he laid. He knew the Organization would consider it "sloppy, inefficient, and foolhardy", even if he did manage to take down his target. What mattered more than the kill itself was always how the kill was accomplished.
Of course though, that's how the Organization always ran.

They wanted their hitmen to be the best-of-the-best, unbeatable, and more importantly, undetectable. The Organization already had tons of top-notch hitmen at their disposal; however it was important that they were trained to not leave any traces, to keep their associates well protected from the authorities. They trained their men to kill in the same manner, leave the same parts of evidence lying around to lose the cops. But every now and then, there was always the odd killer that stood out from the rest. One that had that extra detail, that extra feature or speciality, that made them shine like a bright crown jewel.
Gold Man was that crown jewel.

His golden exo-suit of armor, that glowing red visor, and his skills, all made him one of the Organization's most notorious hitmen. Not to mention, all the countless cybernetics that enhanced his skills and personal cache of weaponry that he either bought, made, or stole from his countless victims. With the amount of skills, weapons, and enhancements he has, one has to wonder:
"Is he even human?"

During his reminisce, his radar started beeping. The target was about to leave the nightclub. Gold Man cracked open his sniper rifle from his armored backpack, set it up, and lined up the shot towards the opening doors. He saw the little dot moving, and poised for the shot, hoping to strike him before he could make it to his limousine, or run away in the odd chance his gold armor gave him away. He had a confirmed visual on the target, as he opened the door, with his scope showing a face that looked like a million bucks. Primed and ready, target locked, now to tag him before the car shows up.

Slight problem, the car has shown up alright, with a fully automated MGX-64 turret, capable of detecting electric devices and heat signatures within a 2-mile radius.
And he was in that radius.
Chapter 2:
T
he turret was locked onto Gold Man's weaponry and heat signature within seconds, firing an entire bulletstorm instantaneously. Luckily, he had prepared for unexpected fire by hiding behind a brick wall from a derelict building next to the nightclub.
But that wall would only give him cover for four seconds, as the ammunition was meant to take down walls.

He quickly swapped weapons, storing his rifle by sliding the barrel in, folding the stock and trigger, and removing the scope, all going into his backpack. He managed to run just as the wall was torn down, and dodged several bullets. Taking out his machine gun, he retorted back with small bursts of gunfire, while the turret was automatically reloading itself.

Running atop the rooftops to advance on the limousine, he noticed that the turret had command over the vehicle, forcing it to move ahead to catch the assassin. The turret continued in firing its dual-machine guns, while Gold Man was running hastily in an attempt to avoid the shots. While running, he had almost forgotten he'd equipped himself with jet boots, and decided to start flying off instead of acting like a parkour artist.

The limousine followed, trying to mark a few shots off him in the air. Eventually Gold Man had enough, pulled out his grenades, and threw them at the turret. Luckily, the MGX-64 model wasn't equipped with a detector for incoming or nearby explosives, making the grenades land easily onto the roof and the mount, blowing a big hole in the limo.

Now that the car had stopped receiving directions from an AI, it just simply drove straight-forward into a wall of a building, with a loud crash. Fortunately though, when it's the dead of night in the slums of Techno Vista, you could blow up a warehouse, and nobody would bat an eye.

The slums were notorious for their high crime rates, death tolls, and even property damage. It was once a booming city, but when technology advances, sometimes old pieces of civilization are left behind.
The slums were that old piece of civilization in Techno Vista.

There were still people that lived in the hallowed buildings, or even what's left of them. If anything though, the "entertainment district", literally a nightclub and a bar beside each other, were always alive and howling. It was also a hotspot for the rich that decided to leave their perfect lives for the day, and do evil deeds at night. Drug deals, armed robberies, assassinations, murders, you name it, it all took place in the slums.
Anyone who did crimes in the heart of Techno Vista were either madmen, or had a deathwish.

The city of Techno Vista was very strict with the laws. A minor offence such as littering or speeding was met with tickets, or community service. DUIs or drug abuse were met with sentences in the prison, and manslaughter or murders, or even gunfights, meant instant death. If you lived in Techno Vista, you were rich, had a job for a business, and lived a perfect life. If you lived in the slums, you were poor, or up to no good.
Much like his target was.

His target was Rob Méras, a local businessman who ran a pharmaceutical business firm, which was really a front for his drug operations. He was the headmaster of the "Rob Mob", a notorious drug cartel who ran the slums like they were kings. An employee of his firm found out about his activities, and told the Organization he would pay handsomely to have his boss taken out, if he could have protection from the gang's retaliation and take over as the CEO of the firm. They complied, and they sent Gold Man out to deal with it.
"Now to see if he's dead" he said aloud.

He approached the destroyed limo carefully, noting that if Rob was still awake, he would probably suspect his assassin coming for him. As he walked closer, he heard some clicks from the car, and figured he was still alive, prepping his firearm. There were many ways to deal with this situation.
"I could throw a grenade in, just to make sure he's dead", he contemplated. "Or, I could run right in and slit his throat, and possibly die if he's holding an explosive."
He thought of the ways he could kill him, but decided to play it safe, just in-case he was waiting for him. Pulling out a grenade, he pressed the timer, lobbed the ball of exploding metal into the large hole of the limo, and walked away, hearing a deafening boom in the process. Looking back, he saw the whole limo was ablaze, and believed if anything was in there, it was dead.
You have to be thorough, make sure that body was in there, and that he didn't escape at the last second he thought. He scanned the limo with the x-ray function on his visor:
Zero life forms found. Two skeletons located.
"Sloppy, they're gonna think it was sloppy" he said.

Hey guys, it has occurred to me that I myself keep track of 4 other separate forums/websites (kind of). These forums are:

-Minecraft Forums (Pocket Edition section)
-Alpha Clan Forums (we now have a spot there for limited members to post btw)
-SWBFGamers (obviously)
-212 Clan (occasionally)
-Detentionaire Wiki (very actively)

I don't mean to pry, but what other forums/websites do you guys follow? You don't have to post if you don't want to, just figured I'd get some generic chatter going on. :P

General / Thoughts on Star Wars: The Clone Wars
December 24, 2013, 06:16:21 PM
Hey guys, figured I'd throw this up in the air for discussion. If you hadn't read the Merry Christmas post already, I stated that I got The Clone Wars Seasons 1-5 on DVD (Collector's Edition). I just now took a look back at some of the episodes that I've gotten foggy on (mostly the ones about politics and Ziro the Hutt), and it made me think: "It's been nearly 9 months since The Clone Wars aired, I wonder what people still think of it?". So, I figured I'd ask yas all! :P

Anyways, what are your thoughts on The Clone Wars as a whole? Complete from Seasons 1-5, not specific episodes or anything (though feel free to pick some out and discuss them). Since I've created the topic, I'l go first:

Overall, I really liked and still like The Clone Wars. It's been a good journey, from 2008-2013/14 (still waiting for Season 6 arcs to be released), I really thought it was a good ride in my favourite era of Star Wars. Sure chunks of Star Wars canon were rewritten throughout the series, but they pulled strings when they needed to fit the arcs in harmony. Although it wasn't necessarily displayed in a chronological order (they hopped here and there in the seasons), it was nice to see how some of the events unfolded in the earlier seasons. :)

In conclusion, I thought Star Wars: The Clone Wars was a really good series. Now let's see how Star Wars: Rebels does in comparison. ;) (And yes, I do plan to watch Star Wars: Rebels.)

Post your thoughts on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series!

Tech Support / ATI Radeon 3200 Graphics Card
December 21, 2013, 04:42:14 PM
Hey guys, so today I finally downloaded and installed Blacklight: Retribution. I waited 2 hours for the patch to update, and finally got the chance to play it. After 2 overheats, I realized that the game stated my GPU (which is an AMD Mobility ATI Radeon 3200 HD GPU), and that it was last updated 67 months ago. Ouch. So, I looked to see if there were any updates available for my GPU, and unfortunately the ones I find are ones linked to the Desktop variant, and AMD doesn't even list the 3200 on their website anymore.

Basically, does anyone know where I can find an update for my GPU? I'm beginning to think this might be the ENTIRE reason as to why I overheat so frequently on some games. If it isn't, then my laptop just flatout sucks. :P

EDIT: And I can't buy a new laptop, don't have the money for it right now...

General / Christmas/New Year's Discussion
December 03, 2013, 10:54:50 AM
Hey guys, figured I'd throw this up there. I know it's only 3 days into December, but I'm wondering, anyone want to share stuff they're doing for Christmas or New Years? Just figured it'd be a good way to get into the holiday cheer. :D

I'l go first:

I'm getting seasons 1-5 of The Clone Wars for Christmas! :D I don't have any plans for Christmas, just chill and have my grandparents over (like usual). As for New Years, drink some champagne at midnight. :)

(And no, I'm not posting this to show off my new Christmas themed avatar or name.) :P

Other Games / Emulators: Good or Bad?
November 30, 2013, 10:24:04 AM
Hey guys, figured I'd toss this up there. I'm betting a few of us play some of our games via emulators (I know I play some SNES games via my iPad), however I just wanted to see what you guys thought about them. And perhaps, suggest a few good ones for me? I've heard of a few emulators for playing GameCube/SNES/NES and what not, but just wanted to see if you knew any for the other consoles, like PS2 and Xbox?

Anyways, feel free to post your opinions!

Tech Support / Anyone else got this recently?
November 24, 2013, 07:21:13 PM
Hey guys, got some issue. Ok, so my parents run a Windows 7 desktop PC, with Norton Internet Security 2014 installed. Whenever we open up either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, we always get this message (image attached below). We tried a Full System Scan off Norton, and it still hasn't gone away. We know it's most likely a virus advert, but we want to get rid of it. Anyone got ideas on how to remove it? Please don't say to download another anti-virus/anti-malware software, we already have Norton on our PC, we don't want another.

As far as we know, the message doesn't mess up our system, however it is a nuisance and we would like to get rid of it.

Tech Support / Laptop Troubles (again...)
November 19, 2013, 06:55:42 PM
Hey guys, I seem to have run aground with another laptop issue. Ok, so I want to play this game called Hawken (it's a mech shooter game, very nice), and I can run it, however there's a problem. I have the games settings on the lowest graphics settings, no background programs running, and it is extremely choppy still. I assume it has something to do with the graphics card (it recommends an ATI Radeon 5670 HD card), however I run an ATI Radeon 3200 HD card on my laptop. So, I'm wondering if you guys would know of any other way to get the game to run smoothly on such a laptop. And, if not, do you know of any cheap laptop GPUs? (Assuming that mine is a changeable one.)

Also, I know I've said them before, but here's the specs again if you need them to help you out:

CPU: AMD Turion X2 Dual-core
GPU: ATI Radeon 3200 HD
RAM: 8GB RAM
System info: x64-based, Windows Vista Home Premium

General / Who here still loves YouTube?
November 15, 2013, 04:44:55 PM
Hey guys, figured I'd throw this up in the air here.

I've been looking at YouTube recently, along with another forum community I'm apart of, and it appears there's a lot of hate going about with Google+ and YouTube. Why you may ask? Because Google+ is now integrated with YouTube, along with several previously unavailable resources opened. These resources include:

-No more comment sorting through Most Recent, instead through Most Replies
-75,000 Character Limit
-Replies are linked to Google+ accounts
-Links finally work in comments

So my question is, do you guys even like YouTube still? And, do you even like Google+?

I'l hand you my opinion first:

I personally don't like it, yet don't care. It's nice to read the most recent comments, and whatnot, but with the expansion they've done (specifically character limit and links), they're just setting it up for spambots. This also includes comments with ASCII art, which is more of an eyesore these days if it's spammed every 2 comments. I also don't care for it, because I never use Google+ to begin with, and will never use it anyways. And, if I don't want to read the comments, I don't have to.

So, what's your thoughts on it?

General / Username Origins?
November 08, 2013, 10:15:51 PM
Hey guys, figured I'd throw this one out there for conversation. Anyways, it's pretty simple, just post the origin of your username, like how you came up with it and the reason for your name. I'll start:

My username GoldMan27 started out as a spinoff of Sam Witwicky's eBay username in Transformers, which was LadiesMan217. Since I liked gold a lot back then, I decided to replace "Ladies" with "Gold", and 217 with 27. I put it on my dad's old flip phone, and the name's stuck ever since. Everything from GM 027 to CT-0027 has been a reference to my username since then. :)

Hey guys, figured I'd head this up. If anyone would like to seriously participate and volunteer to be apart of the "SWBF Comic Books" staff, please post here so Led can get a board started for us! I would really like to see this project take off, as I think it would be a great community project. :D

So, please post here if you want to be apart of the staff, and please specify what role you would want (writer, photograhper, editor, etc.) I have no problem with people doing multiple roles by the way, such as someone being a photographer and editor and whatnot.

Being the brain behind the idea, I would lke to at least be an idea man, I have no intent to actually be fully in-charge of the project. If anything, I'd want this to be more an open volunteer/community effort, not exactly a full-blown project. Just something to experiement and have fun with, and if it is well-recieved, then maybe we could work something more project-based out. But for now it would be a test-run/experiement with the community's full supporrt.

So, what are you waiting for? Let's do this! :D

Staff:
Gold Man -supporter/brainchild
Norris -photographer/editor
RepublicCommando -editor/concept artist
Helios -writer
RC-1498 -writer
Dark_Phantom -writer/editor

Tech Support / Calling Experts in Visual Basic!
November 01, 2013, 05:26:13 PM
Hey guys, I seem to have a problem with my Visual Basic program. Ok, so I'm creating a sort of Login type program (this is sort of for fun and learning on my end, it's not a project for my Computer Science course :)), however I have a problem. Once the information is entered in the login, I want Form1 to close, and Form2 to open. However, I'm stuck with either both Form1 and Form2 closing altogether, or having to hide Form1, which doesn't fully close the program once Form2 is closed, meaning I have to either stop the debug in Visual Basic Studio 2010, or use Task Manager to close it. Here's the code from my program down below:

NOTE: This is in the Private Sub of Button1_Click. And the words for the login are just placeholders currently. :P

If MaskedTextBox1.Text = "Except" _
           And MaskedTextBox2.Text = "cool" Then
            MsgBox("Welcome to the system!")
            Form2.Show()
            Me.Close()
        ElseIf MaskedTextBox1.Text = "Epic" _
            And MaskedTextBox2.Text = "nice" Then
            MsgBox("Welcome to the system!")
            Form2.Show()
            Me.Close()
        Else
            MsgBox("Sorry, wrong password.")
        End If

Public Square / RSS Feed for SWBFGamers?
October 23, 2013, 05:16:34 PM
Hey guys, today I was browsing some other forums, and found on one of them a feature called "RSS Feed". I know this is used to feed people blog posts and sometimes forum posts, but I wondered, why doesn't SWBFGamers have an RSS Feed? I know there's probably few people that use them, but for some like me, it would be cool to have. That way I don't have to always boot up my laptop, open Chrome, and then login and view unread topics, instead I'd just see them as they come. :P

Anyways, just a suggestion I thought of for the site. If we don't have it for some good reason, that's cool with me. :P

General / Anyone still watch cartoons nowadays?
October 03, 2013, 08:34:47 AM
Hey guys, since I'm at school bored as heck (just now got out early for finishing a test), I figured I would throw this out there: Who still watches cartoons? If you know me well, you know that I have a deep passion for cartoons (not anime people, but cartoons), and I just wondered if anyone else still watches the current/old cartoons. For instance, I'm a current follower of Total Drama All-Stars, Regular Show, and Beware The Batman. I even watch older cartoons from the 2000s/late 90's, like 6teen or Batman Beyond.

But yeah, just wondered if any of yas watched/still watch cartoons, and figured I'd try and spark a more, enlightening coversation. :P

Other Games / Anyone know of some good freeware FPS games?
September 28, 2013, 08:48:35 AM
Hey guys, figured I'd throw this out there. Since I won't be playing SWBF until Thanksgiving at the latest (my parents will let me play the games during breaks), I wondered if any of you guys knew some good freeware FPS games. Basically, games that don't require Steam or money to really play, just download-from-the-site-and-join-the-fun sort of games.

The type of freeware FPS game I'm looking for has:

 • A good friendly community
 • Little to no blood/gore (if possible)
 • Multiplayer (obviously)
 • Modding support (optional)
 • Works well on old machines (my overheating laptop :P)

I'l admit off the bat I've gone searching for these sorts of games, but none that I've found that really appeal to my list. If you guys know any, perhaps post the website link and add-in a brief description/video of the game in your post? Thanks!

Scummies / It's Official, I'm Retiring
September 02, 2013, 12:13:46 PM
Hi guys, I know it's a bit late, but figured I would say this:

This year, I'm going into Grade 11, which is as my local rumors say, the toughest year of high school. Being a chronic procrastinator, I know this year gaming will take more than a bit out of my grades if I don't stop. So, I'm retiring all PC gaming activities as of tomorrow. This means, you will no longer see me on SWBF, or SWBFII, or even Xfire. I might still check up on SWBFGamers, but probably not as often.

Also, as for YAK, I apologize for not attending any matches aside from Kamino. I meant to attend more, but the clan drama has sort of driven me away from attending. Regardless of the final outcome of ICW3, I would request I have an ICW3 award on my profile (either Winner or Participant, depending if YAK wins or loses).

Also, I will not be fully out of contact. I have an iPad, and I actively play Minecraft: Pocket Edition on there. I've also become active on the Minecraft Forums in the past month or so. So, if you wish to contact me, just shoot me a message on there (or SWBFGamers, I still have my PM emails on), and maybe we could arrange to meet up on a server on Minecraft: Pocket Edition.

Also, as of recent events, I am soon to retire my General position in Alpha Clan. In the future, if you wish to contact our Generals, they will be Kyram and Dan, both of whom have profiles on SWBFGamers as well. However, if they cannot answer/help you out, you are welcome to contact me here, or on our clans website.

I've played this game for 3 years, and only been on the site for about 10 months. I've seen a lot of good people come and go, and I've seen people build legends of themselves. I've helped many in both personal issues, and general issues. In all my time, I've never been apart of such a closely-knit community of gamers. I thank Led and Jedikiller for hosting SWBFGamers, for without them, this community would already be in isolated fragments. I also thank my good friends who have been with me through thick and thin, as without them I probably would be some solo player who never got the word of the Gamespy shutdown.

And so, I retire today my SWBF Career, this time officially. I may still hop on during breaks and maybe next summer, who knows? In any case, I will be having a retirement party at 8pm Eastern today over Xfire. If you want to play with me in-game though, I'l be sure to join in and earn my newly found Bantha Fodder reputation oncemore.

This is Gold Man/GM 027/Adam (yes, that's my real name), 3-year Battlefrontian, General of Alpha Clan, founder of The Glitch Mafia/The Grand Mercenaries, and overall good friend to many, signing off.

Requests / Ziost: Order 66 and Kashyyyk: Kachiro
August 14, 2013, 06:54:06 AM
Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone still has these ancient maps. I tried the FileFront link, but the files won't leave the zip folders at all. If anyone's wondering this is the FileFront page they were on:

http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.com/file/Kashyyyk_Kachiro_and_Ziost_Order_66;49141

And if anyone's curious enough, this is a modmap review video that Anarchmetis made for Ziost (if you guys can watch, it's blocked for copyright in my country...):

If anyone has the maps/can provide another download link, it would be much appreciated!
