Currently playing: Madden NFL 13, Halo 4, some Fallout 3, and The Walking Dead. I just finished Mass effect 3.
Raoul Duke: feels redneck
Raoul Duke: have to bring the family tree when looking for women

Lilly Satou: also oh my god
Lilly Satou: fried chicken in the lingo is the best thing ever

Fun fact: The highest selling console game of 2012 is Black Ops 2, followed by Madden NFL 13.

That's right. Madden outsold everything else on consoles. Everything.

madden 13 outsold 2012? In 2012? WHAT KIND OF WORLD DO WE LIVE IN!

Why are the sports games always in the "10 for $5" bin at the used game stores?

Don't believe everything you read on the internet

I never checked the dates.

The local mom and pop game store has a big square bin filled with various console sports titles.
I remember seeing the EA logo a lot.

I assumed it was because folks that liked sports were actually playing them and the video versions just didn't sell.
But if they are sales toppers, then I'm confused about how they end up in the junk bin?

To be fair, they are probably older x-box or ps2 versions. But this particular store has a huge assortment of 'retro' games, from the 2600 to now.  So everything in the building is for an 'old' system.  But the junk bin is reserved for the sports titles.

Old sports games have outdated rosters, that's the biggest reason. Generally, people think that as time goes on, issues in these games will be fixed, and so buying newer titles will mean better gameplay.

This of course isn't true, since games that are released every year can only be patched so much, so sometimes you get titles that stagnate. I personally bought Madden NFL 13 because there's a new physics engine, and the game play is smoother, but if '14 changes very little, I'll just play the older title with custom rosters  :moo:
