Title: Gone for a bit again
Post by: Roxas on June 02, 2013, 06:52:08 PM
My hard drive finally died last Thursday and as a result, I have had to downgrade from 120GB to my original 60GB. I can't sacrifice any of that space to games since the OS, updates, and other programs take a very large chunk out of my very small hard drive. I am planning on getting a very nice laptop (8GB DDR3 RAM with 1TB of space) this month within the next two weeks hopefully. After I get it, I'll load it up, flash a system restore (after I downgrade it to W7 because I dislike WindowsFail8), and just like that I'll be back.

My hard drive fought long and hard. Soon, he was attacked by wave after wave of Blue Screens. Then, he sustained a crippling series of blows that injured his wifi, desktop session manager, and sleep patterns. Then suddenly, the beasts known as Blue Screens disappeared. Although he was still deeply injured, he kept strong. He passed away after a two page report with Microsoft Word. May he rest in piece.

Seems like a lot of computers that we SWBFGamers have are near the end of their lifes. Sad to say, yours went to computer heaven, mine, will go to pc hell. (it deserves it) To bad you have the money to get a laptop, I don't.  :td: Anyways, we will be missing you until you come back, maybe I will end up with a 360 game you have, and we can play together.

God's speed, little drive.
May your release from this mortal coil bring you peace.

I've found that having multiple smaller drives prevent's catastrophic data loss in times like this.

I keep a 30gb drive for the OS and a few programs that won't work right elsewhere, and install everything else to a secondary drive.

So when windows eats itself, it isn't a big deal. Just re-install. All the programs installed on other drives have to be re-installed as well, but since I also never save anything to the primary drive, I don't have to worry about all my data being gone.

Hope you get a stable system out of this experience.  Loosing every thing to hardware failure is a drag. I feel your pain.

I'm beginning to wonder when my laptop's hard drive is going to cut out. It's a 220GB, and my laptops only overheated like 100 times, each time being nearly as hot as an iron (I should know, burnt my hand on one when I was younger). Someday, I know this HP laptop is going to die out, it might be from the overheats, it might not. I just when that happens I have a new portable drive to put in, or the money to buy a brand-spanking new laptop. :P

But even so, I wish your hard drive be well in heaven, it held out like a trooper from what you've said.

I'm back. I don't have my new computer, but after seeing when I would get my new laptop, I decided to throw BF1 and only BF1 on my computer.
