Title: SWBF1 Museum Master Thread (WIP)
Post by: Snake on May 15, 2013, 10:36:35 AM
Alright, so even though SWBF is not completely dead yet, I think now is the opportune time to make a SWBF Museum. For this, I will need literally EVERYONE's help. There will be so much to this map so I'll just separate it into categories.

Here's what this map is going to be:

I want to make a map that commemorates all that SWBF1 is and has been. This will have a huge museum with things like the Leaderboards, Prolific Modders, Prolific Community Members (People like Led), Tournament admins and participants, Clans & their members, yadda yadda. I'm still thinking out the details.

Here's what I need from you guys:

-For clans-
-Post the full name, abbreviation, and website of every major clan you want to be in the Museum. I will also need a list of members of that clan. If this clan does not have a website where I can get a list of members then please do not post it. We will have to have a huge building just to fit the bigger clans.

-For YOU-
We will have a list of all current SWBFGamers members in the SWBFGamers Temple
-Post that you want to be in the Temple, and post any quote that you want to be with your name. (Nothing explicit)
-Post any SWBF screenshots you want to have in the Screenshot Room of the Museum (One screenshot per person) it can be any screenshot in SWBF.

-For Tournaments-
-Please post any Tournament websites where I can get a list of participants (ICW, GGW, etc)

-For Leaderboards, Prolific Modders, & Prolific Community Members-
-Please post suggestions of people who should be added to the Leaderboard (It will also be from the online leaderboard, I think) and who you think deserves to be mentioned in Prolific Modders and Prolific Community Members.

Much, much more will be added when I need info from you guys. I will put every ounce of skill I've gained over the years into this map. Also, many other modders will be helping me. Right now it's just RC and Unit 33 but hopefully Sleepkiller and Sereja will spare some time for it.

For this (as with all projects anyone might need it for) I am available to help hack up a msh or 2.

I may not be able to get it 100% right, but I will try my best for anyone that asks.

I'd like to be in the SWBFGamers Temple. :)

Here's my quote:
Quote from: UnknownTry to look unimportant; the enemy may be low on ammo and not want to waste a bullet on you.

I'll find a picture and edit this post with it.
-edit: I attached a picture below, I may use that. I don't know for sure, yet.

As for clans, I have a couple that I would like to be mentioned, and I could add a members list for each of them. I could post the members list in a spoiler if you want. The list is pretty long.

Here's a link to a few clan websites:
http://dxclansite.webs.com/dxclanmembers.htm
http://www.swbf1alphaclan.webs.com/

And here's a link to a GGCW's website:
http://ggcwarchives.webs.com/

Are we allowed to post a list of members we would like to be mentioned even if they weren't in a clan?

Shazam, Alpha Clan isn't dead...

Eh, what the hey, I'l add to be in the SWBFGamers Temple, just put my name down as: -=Gold Man=-. Also, I have been in many clans (most of which were flops, but I don't care), however if you want a list of TGM members, there were few, but I think they're names deserve to be added in.

Alright, everyone who picked a score for their screenshot, please pick another. This museum will be about the awesome times we had with our friends, not about wars or rivalries. In the end, we all have one thing in common, which is SWBF. We are a dying breed, and there is no need to have tension between us. So pick a screenshot of clanmates or a glitch or something fun.

Thanks for all the responses guys! You shall all be immortalized in SWBF forever.  :tu:

Snake, this is a fantastic idea and I'm really grateful you're willing to do something like this. Expect a PM from me about my old clan _(VS)_, I think they deserve immortality despite being dead for a while now.

Of course, FC deserves immortality the most, but I think Rage has that covered.

In fact I'll try to dig up as much as I can about clans from a few years back and send you the info. Hopefully the deadline isn't too close. And I will send you links to places where you can find info on old clan wars like the GGWs. ICW information is here on the website under tournaments.

(I'll post a pic or send you one later).

Ahh, good ol' _(VS)_. My brothers in arms.  :D That brings back some good memories of GGW2. I will make sure to have them in the Museum. And thanks, I'd appreciate any history help I can get! The deadline won't be until the map is close to being finished...which will be a while..

I added info blocks of everyone who has posted so far (and the modders/admins involved) so if you see a blank by Quote or Screen then you need to come up with them! I will keep that list updated whenever I check this thread. Screenshots of SCORES will NOT be accepted. Find one like mine (which is the only huge one). It's a pic of some of my clanmates I found on xfire.

I have no idea about what the measurements will be. I have a picture in my head of each of the screenshots being about half the size of a clone trooper in-game. But I don't know how it will work out. So I think it would be best to just have one, since not everyone knows how to combine pictures anyway.

@Norris haha, thanks!

@Led hmm.. I don't think .gif's can be put in SWBF. But I can put pretty much anything on Rends stuff and put it on a billboard. Or maybe Sereja can create an extra long scroll?

I have never really been one for taking screenshots. This is one of the few I did take. (http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/122234677-4.jpg)
If I remember correctly me and Zombie were outnumbered 2:1 or it may have just been by one. It's been a while. But Zombie played one of the best games I have seen and we ended up winning with only one ticket left.

This is my favourite one but you have to look closely at the re-enforcement count for it to make sense so I don't think it would be a good one to use... :)

BOB is not quite dead yet Fizz :)  Don't count us out yet, there's a couple still left.  And I will be adding some stuff later today for BOB.
(P.S.  Hey Fizz, it's me, BOB.ldr.Phantom  )

Edit:  Also the {snp} (Sniper) clan will probably throw in some stuff, they are very active in 1.0.

I know its you :P, dead or not you guys deserve to be remembered, I just meant most members aren't active.

The main building part of the cantina is almost ready for ZE, all it's UVs are fixed. I'm going to attempt at making my own collision model so we don't get a bunch of bugs.. Then I'll add the other rooms and merge the model.

Bars are tables/stools and other furniture are almost ready as well. The monster truck is turning out to get tricky.

Also, go through your friends xfire pics who no longer come on xfire or play swbf and we will honor them by putting their screenies in the museum.

-Unit statues (Just some units frozen in place without their arms sticking out)
-Cantina fix
-More clan info (Me)
-Graves (Me)
-Sides (I haven't decided what units will be in the map yet)
-Vehicle props (Props that don't have pieces flying everywhere)
-List of tournament winners
-Mod map panoramic screenshots
-Minimap (I'm gona give this a try..)
-Attempt at AI pathing (Me)
-Fix vehicles (Me)
-Paintball guns (Me)
-Laser guns (Me)

I suggest the Battle Royal Sides. Those represent the current community well and they are very fun to play around with. Especially if this is a map that isn't made for combat fun sides will make it more interesting.

Yes, they are quite awesome. I am debating on whether to use those or to have like every kind of unit from SWBF1. Like IMP ATAT Pilot, CIS Infantry, Clone Jet, Gungan, Alliance Vanguard vs IMP Sniper, Clone Infantry, Alliance Wookie, Tusken, CIS Assault Trooper (Or something like that)

OR what if we use Sleepkillers random unit generator to call on every single type of unit there is in SWBF..  :o

I only voted "No" in regards to the poll, because I thought perhaps something more... challenging might be done to allow access to the secret area?
I don't know... secret hidden entrance revealed by destructible goat.
Title: Re: SWBF1 Museum Master Thread (WIP)

Or only special units (like SKs Jawa) could fit through a covered-by-vegetation hole to the secret area. (I really enjoyed the secret glitch entrance on Phobo's Rancor land, it inspires me every time).
--
Also, I advise you be cautious about the Object count in the map. With all those separate picture ODFs, it'll really eat up the limit. After all of them are done, I would suggest merging all of them into 1-4 MSHs (extremely easy, wouldn't take any time at all) and it should save a ton of space. If you really wanted to, you could combine all the TGAs into 1-4 (I think there is a max resolution for textures, not sure.) and simply scale the UV map in XSI (easy as well, its only 2 triangles) to fit where the particular part of the texture is too. That process would take about 15 minutes. So you might consider that.

Voted yes for glitch in areas. (even though I have never been good at glitching.)

And I love the goat door idea. A more star-wars-ish approach.. perhaps destructable jawa junk or one of those Naboo heads?

The Battle Royal Sides is a good choice. For the same reasons Kit mentioned and lot of folks contributed to it (maintaining the BF community aspect) and it's already done (less work :P ).
I think the "already done" part is the strongest reason for it.

I agree with all Tirpider said.

Also, Snake, it's more of a Just-incase-the-map-crashes-because-of-the-high-object-count error ;)
I might just throw something together. And I sent you the finished Cantina in SKP in PM, I'm finishing the UVs in XSI and exporting the MSH now *cross-fingers* as of Sketchup likes to scale UVs down when they're exported.

WOAH, Sketchup 7 exports correctly UV-ed models and I don't have to goof with them in XSI! (DAE export, so it's even faster...) I am having very good luck after that fix..

I think something along this line would be more fun. Glitching can be frustrating and anti-climatic where as destroying a goat? Well that's just awesome! ;)

This is an awesome idea you have there, Snake, thank you for making some kind of an anthology of the game.

I hope I can still contribute in memory of some french players and clans, here are some informations I can give :

Clans :

  • L'Alliance Francophone, ={LA}=, http://lalliancefr.forumperso.com/

  • Le Clan Francophone, [LCF], http://swbf-clan-fr.bbgraph.com/
  • Legend French Gamers, ~[LFG]~, http://team-lfg-swbf.forumactif.org/
  • Black Warriors, bw, http://the-bw-areback.bbactif.com/
  • Metal, metal, http://renaissancemetal.webnode.com/ / http://www.freewebs.com/clancde/

A list of important / most active French players that have been playing until 2011, now, keep in mind that every single of of the players listed below have been changing clans during the past 8 years, I cannot create a fixed list of all of them, for example : Nexon have been playing for IsC, been member of BoB, played for L'Alliance, joined LFG and is now with bw. If you want to link them to one and only one clan, consider doing it with L'Alliance, they have been more of a community connecting all french players together :

Ben Kenobi, Sayan, Kalilz, Nejy, Goldz, Fatal, Bigjack LeChuck, Angel of Pain, Dralightning, Estelle, Fatal, Rockstar, Kakashi, IceWolf, Tomken3, Jeff Laser, Epsilon, Anakin, Chonchon, Nilmar, Showstopper, Kais, Nexon, Skyfox, Piccolo, Bazooka, Manu, EldestRob, Dark Sky, Sol, XandFeet, RV, Elite, Shino, David, Jeronimo13, Jineo, Rob, Syrion.

About me ( yes I'd like to have my name featured in the temple ) :

I am Syrion, I've been playing for more than 7 years now. Still missing the good old times.

any word on how your gonna make this map (Rhen Var Models, Mos Eisley Models, Custom Models etc...). I'd also like having the sides be the Battle Royal Mod. And if there is a secret room it should be a shrine to ME...

lol jk

but it should be something like have all the cut BF1 stuff in it like the K-Wing or the Swampspeeder or maybe something like a BF2 campaign map thing as soon as you find the room and walk in sorta like that Skyline Easter Egg on Halo 4 where you can play the Halo 3 campaign mission and fly around in the Hornet

It'll be more custom models, and they'll mostly be painted Yavin-like textures.
Epifire did a wonderful job on the original cantina.. I was impressed.

This is an awesome idea you have there, Snake, thank you for making some kind of an anthology of the game.

I hope I can still contribute in memory of some french players and clans, here are some informations I can give :

Clans :

  • L'Alliance Francophone, ={LA}=, http://lalliancefr.forumperso.com/

  • Le Clan Francophone, [LCF], http://swbf-clan-fr.bbgraph.com/
  • Legend French Gamers, ~[LFG]~, http://team-lfg-swbf.forumactif.org/
  • Black Warriors, bw, http://the-bw-areback.bbactif.com/
  • Metal, metal, http://renaissancemetal.webnode.com/ / http://www.freewebs.com/clancde/

Thanks a lot for the info Syrion. I'll make sure to get this stuff in there. I don't think every one of those members can be on the list, though.. Can you point out maybe 3 or 4 who have made the most impact on the French SWBF community?

The map is Yavin themed and the museum will be the Great Hall (as seen in the movies) and have lot's of custom models.

There are a few easter eggs around the map, and the biggest one will be something under the map. (Haven't decided what, yet)

I have absolutely no idea. Depends on how fast all of the modders involved work. I, for one, am taking my time so I get this right. I would like to get it done as a Christmas present to the community but I can only speculate.

---

Alright, I added a new poll. This is to determine the sides. You get to pick your top 10 favorite Battle Royale units! The top 10 after a few days will be the ones I use in the Museum. Some units weapons may be changed for laser tag and paintball and things like that.

Here's the BR topic: http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=6350.0
I attached the image Unit 33 made that has all the units with names.

---

Actually, I changed it to 8. So pick your top 8 units. That way I can make a special unit that will be used specifically for the mini-games and none of the BR sides will have to be changed.

Your poll only has fifteen choices. When the Battle Royale has 17 classes!

swbf_inf_sleepkiller - SleepKiller
swbf_inf_dbiz - Dbiz
swbf_inf_snakemando - Snake
swbf_inf_unit33 - Unit 33
swbf_inf_s_zombie - Sereja
swbf_inf_comfrost - Comfrost
swbf_inf_led - Buckler
swbf_inf_goldman - Gold Man
swbf_inf_kitfisto - Kit Fisto
swbf_inf_republiccommando - RepublicCommando
swbf_inf_blaine - The class Phobos' designed
swbf_inf_twinkeyrunaway - Twinkeyrunaway
swbf_inf_tusken - Tirpider
swbf_inf_shazam - Sha Zam
swbf_inf_roldora - Roland
swbf_inf_flower -  ~AF!zZingGunFlower
swbf_inf_cinna - Cinnamon

Also why only eight? The generator can easily be adjusted to only pick four and leave you a slot to mess with. It's also relatively speaking, easy to change the script to be compatible with any map. Especially if you're sticking to TBR classes. I'll be on xFire for a bit, message me if you want help with it.

Oh, I was missing Cinnamon. (I used the list on the TBR thread)

Nah, it's mainly an attempt to save space (and work) so I'd rather just go with the top 8.

Guys i just thought of something what if you got the RvB Season 10 Soundtrack of of iTunes took the 9 songs with lyrics compiled them into a SFX file and put it into ZeroEditor in areas of the museums. The reason i say the RvB soundtrack cause everyone liked it when i posted it on a BF3 poll.

Note: There are 30 tracks all together, 1-5 on the list below are in the begging of the soundtrack, 6 is in the middle, 7-9 are the last ones in it.

2. The More

3. Now That We Come So Far

4.Terrify!

Maybe a small modifications for next years April fools day. Some crazy soundtrack (it would be REALLY awesome if the random generator thing SK was talking about, could somehow random call sound ambient music...) from whatever in every room..

I think little skin changes and neat stuff like that would be awesome after this is complete. Like a hallows-eav version, christmas version, etc..

Music is defined in Lua, so it is possible to randomize it at start up.

Either way regarding the RvB soundtrack I'm guessing it is copyrighted material. (Since you said get off iTunes.) One of the unwritten rules of modding SWBF is if you use assets from another game, movie or album; you should stick to SW ones. (Although that kind of activity should be kept to low levels at all times.)

I'm sure there will be a few "sponsored" versions (aka other versions by me) and several by others.

Alright so I've got some things that I can't do, no matter how hard I try. Who wants to give a crack at them?

Minimap and Sound Regions

----

I have added some locals to the Museum. There are now Royal Temple Guards and Royal Temple Scribes roaming the halls of the Museum. The Guards, ofcourse, are the security of the Temple. The Scribes are students of our history, they study it and record it, and also double as the caretakers of the Museum.

It also just adds some life to the lonely hallways so you don't get too depressed when reminiscing. Also, if you happen to be Satan, they make fun random people to kill for no reason.

Here's a guard pic (the scribe skin is being worked on by Unit 33):

The Museum has a good bit of the info in it now and I have just loved running around reminiscing. It's just so cool for their to be a map that is basically the epitome of SWBF1. I guess it's one of the reasons the Egyptians made their pyramids. As monuments to the past.. (Someone write that down, that was deep)

Voting for TBR characters will close tomorrow afternoon.

tirpider with 8 votes

----

A quick to-do list:

-More pics
-Cutter cubes
-More info
-Underground buildings
-Hex editing/skinning/placing signs
-Fix Blaine

Also, I have set all sides and locals as friendlies, so you can focus on the museum and not watching your back at the same time. I didn't know if this would be a good thing, but after countless tests I have found that I like it much more. However, I thought of Boonta Eve and how everyone has that inner need to drop bombs on an enemy camp, no matter what other distractions are in the map. So I created a small camp of a new local side called "the Noobs." Since these are enemies to SWBF, they are hated by all Guards, Scribes, And Battle Royale units. So now you have someone to fight with if you get those homicidal urges.

Haha, thanks tirp!

I've got some update pics + a funny story.

Here's a cool looking Y-wing:

(http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/aatcfett/128788657-3_zps02dd744d.jpg) (http://s414.photobucket.com/user/aatcfett/media/128788657-3_zps02dd744d.jpg.html)
Story (with pics)

So I put the TBR units in and also the "Noobs." I thought I uploaded a picture of the Noobs but now I can't find it, so I'll have to upload another one later. Anyway, I was flying around with my super jet (which helps when testing the map) and I noticed gun fire coming from the Noobs camp. Well, most of the AI don't roam too far from home so I decided to check out who in the world was attacking the Noobs. Turns out it is Sereja's zombie unit. I just sat there and watched the Noobs hopelessly attack Sereja. His healing powers basically made it impossible for them to kill him because their guns are crazy inaccurate (cause theyre noobs). So anyway I went on with my test, quit, edited some stuff, then tested again. Once again I saw the shooting coming from the Noob camp and so I went to see what unit was attacking this time. Well, it was Sereja!!
(http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/aatcfett/128788622-3_zps391883e1.jpg) (http://s414.photobucket.com/user/aatcfett/media/128788622-3_zps391883e1.jpg.html)
Sereja was at it again, slaughtering noobs with his poison breath or whatever.

Anyway, I thought that was cool but I had to go test things and such so I did that. Later in a 3rd test I went straight to the noob camp and waited for Sereja to appear and start fighting the noobs again. Well, he arrived in his Kia Rio and the noobs started shooting. This time, Sereja didn't even bother with the noobs, instead he actually stole one of their Kaadu's and rode off. He was just taunting them now! I was just amazed at this. (Kaadu's can only be found at the Noobs camp, and don't respawn)
(http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/aatcfett/128788683-3_zpsd78288a8.jpg) (http://s414.photobucket.com/user/aatcfett/media/128788683-3_zpsd78288a8.jpg.html)
So, moral of the story: Sereja really really really does not like noobs. Even as a zombie.

Edit: added 2 more pics I just found

Here's some pics of random things if you want to use any of them:

The weirdest things happen in this game.. I just don't understand them. It seems that each unit is always doing a certain thing.

Like Led and Unit 33 are always sitting around at the CP's just chilling. Occasionally I see Unit 33 ground assaulting Noobs with Sereja. And one time I saw Led move.

Phobos is always in a group of about 4 Phobos' running around the map (or a lot of times running into one wall, defying the AI pathing for no reason).

Sereja is always-ALWAYS attacking the Noobs and you might see him (or a group of Sereja's) chasing a few of them around the map.

Sleepkiller is always in a Y-wing, flying around the map and making bombing runs on the Noobs (seriously, he's almost always the one in the Y-wing).

-Republic Commando- for some reason is always just standing on top of an invisible CP. There's one in the center of the Museum and one in the center of the Arena and I always see one of him just standing there.

tirpider is interesting, he is always found doing something weird. I've seen him somehow manage to get a kia rio into the Museum and he just kept running full speed into a wall. Or he is just riding around the map by himself doing random things. He almost never engages the Noobs.

I can't really put a finger on what I do. A lot of times I see me's attacking Noobs with Sereja, but other times there's just a me standing around at a CP, or in the Museum. I guess I'm a do-whatever kind of AI.

I really have no idea why these coincidences happen so often. Like one time, I was sitting by a CP and just watched as 4 Phobos' were running into a wall, while Unit 33 and Led just sat back and watched. They were at the same CP, with the same pathing affecting them. It just blows my mind sometimes.

This is becoming borderline creepypasta material.

"And as I approached the ceremonial hall I could have sworn I heard something... the wind effects perhaps...
I reached the long hall. Peculiarly, Sereja was there. Around him sprawled the lifeless bodies of several Noobs...
I noticed that they lay in a pentagonal shape, pure coincidence surely...
I found myself unable to quit to desktop. As if a tangible something in that hall pulled me in.
The wind was more audible now, but it was more grotesque... like the wailings of the damned.

And then there was a ghost and I died"

Well that's how most creepypasta's go anyway.

Not to derail the thread here, but Unit, there actually is a creepypasta about SWBF, believe it or not. It is titled, "Star Wars: Deathfront".

WARNING: Creepypasta may contain some coarse language and gory writing. Reader's discretion is advised.

Now for curiousity's sake, is it possible to implement ANY of the features mentioned in the creepypasta via modding? :P

I figured out that you don't necessarily need the hardpoints. You just have to line it up right with the x/y/z intercepts and thats where the hand will automatically hold it. It does take a few tries to make sure it's facing the right way and the hand fits it right. The only problem is the hp_fire. The muzzle flash comes from right in front of the hand by default so it looks weird. But that can just be removed. It works pretty well though! I found all this out when I made a spear for the Talz and then when I put more of a focus on figuring out when I made a tablet for the Scribes to hold.

Wow.. I always thought it was mandatory. I knew you didn't have to do it with melee weapons, but I assumed that was just some sort of glitch (a rather handy one).

The real hassle, is getting stuff scaled correctly from Sketchup to Battlefront

edit: Im sure if you really wanted to, you could find a way to have a substitute hp_fire (ODF defined positions, like when you added the contrails for the F117 model).

Alright, I figured I'd post some updates since I've been working on the Museum. Right now my main project is finishing this stupid cantina. I made a perfectly good one in sketchup but one of the textures is giving me fits. I'll post some pics once I finish it.

Also, Unit 33 is making some nice propaganda and easter egg posters for your amusement.

And no, COD, there will not be a zombie mode. However, one of the characters is Sereja's Zombie.

Might be a little late, but i'd like to be in the temple (I know i'm not the most well known member or the most experienced, but I do have big plans in the future and wan't to be remembered).

As for the quote i'm a bit indecisive so i'll let you choose:

"The future is your's to control. For something to happen, you must make it happen." -I don't remember if someone else said this or if I came up with this independently.

"Never judge someone by the number of posts the have or how long they've been around, but only by the quality of their work and how they treat others."

"If you are going to call someone a n00b, remember, so were you when you just started."

"Remember, we play this game to have fun, not to to show we're better."

Seriously doubt this will happen, but if neither of those fixes work, I'll just try nulls instead of the other primitive types I've been using. I think vehicles and moving things like to have geometry hps, and static models seem to like nulls better.. It's weird.

Taking another look at it I probaly need to fix a few transitions and make it somewhat shorter. The extra 30 seconds of music wasn't intentional.

Overall though I got to say you have some really neat ideas implemneted. As far as suggestions go, the SBD statues could probaly benefit with  more of a stone/rock texture to match with the rest of the temple/museum. The main buling where the SBD also seems a little empty though very well constructed. Some more benches and perhaps even smaller exhibits would help fill it up. The Battlefrontians are pretty cool, they walk around like they should and fit the purpose of employees pretty well.

Have any of y'all seen night at the Museum? Perhaps we could get some booths (clan information booths maybe?) and a real fancy main information desk with a big globe that turns (probably Coruscant, as opposed to earth) right above it just about the size of the desk if not bigger..

Lots of lights on small desk lamps and torch lights near the entrances of the tunnels, redo the floor to be reflective or just really shinny.. Maybe a model of some big starwars creature's skeleton (like Rex from night at the museum) on put it on a big display with several lights and a little plaque.

Have some starwars older aircraft (wookiee flyers or naboo, maybe Royal Nubian (padme's ship) as an exhibit) hanging from the ceiling, I might cook up some more statues, actually.

There's endless stuff to fill that big room with..

edit- Seriously, almost every museum I've been to has some sort of elaborate water fountain.

Edit2- another cool video would be of a tour guide leading everyone through (cut scenes, not actually making the entire thing)

Fraps is epic (I've not a registered version that has no watermarks and lots of custom settings for output), unfortunately to use it to full potential, you must have it registered, which is really worth it..

Well RC will have to do most of those models. I can make some display cases if tirpider will make them glass. I also am going to make some "action" statues of bf ships. Sorta like this: http://img.rakuten.com/PIC/28945049/0/1/300/28945049.jpg

I can reduce the size of an x-wing or something. However, I think a lot of the vehicles freak out when you put them in prop form..

The only models I really want are display cases, display vehicles, torches and lights, skeletons, and things of the sort. I don't want to make this too modern, it still needs to be a yavin temple.

Maybe a hanging skeleton of this: http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080307185029/starwars/images/3/39/Opee.jpg

and static models of "stuffed" rancors/wampas/those green lizard things they ride on tatooine since we already have those models.

Unfortunately, no.  :P

Holy crap.. The coolest/weirdest thing happened.

So I was playing on the Museum, just messing around (that's how I get all my random ideas) and somehow I noticed that most of the Noobs had left their camp, somehow found their way into the museum (without pathing) and were locked in battle with the guards and a few characters like Sereja and Unit 33. You don't understand how weird this is.. Because 1. they got in there without pathing, 2. they actually captured one of the two CP's in the museum which is specifically designed so only players can capture them. Somehow one of them got on top of the huge museum in order to capture the CP. (that is where the capture region is located). Idk, I just find stuff like this amazing. So now, me and the guards are currently trying to retake the museum, and the scribes are kind of huddled up in a corner. Another episode in "The Adventures of The Museum"

At first, when you started telling these stories, I was thinking "Wow, your computer is so weird.  Star Wars Battlefront is weird.  Wow...."

Now, I'm convinced that SALLY really does have a mind of her own and does what she pleases.

Snake: Oh boy, this CP on top of this building can only be captured by skilled human players.  I can't even get there 95% of the time!
SALLY:  AI must capture CP on top of Building.  Creating route code.  Magical AI flight capability when player isn't looking is now activated.  *later*  Objective Successful.  Proceeding to terminate human coming to try to capture my CP.

--Snake gets hit by a meteor blast.  Snake proceeds to respawn but cannot because SALLY forbids it.

Haha exactly! Video games are supposed to be so exact and scripted but SWBF is not so.

Well, I've hit a major bump in the road. I did some very minor changes and now the map crashes like 25 seconds in every time. It doesn't make any sense. If it's gona crash, why doesn't it crash right away? Another reason I hate modding. What's even more amazing, is that I was so confident in such minor changes not doing anything that I saved it over my backup too, to update it. So now I am going to try retracing my freaking steps, which will probably not do anything. So, my only hope is someone else figuring out what is wrong, me retracing my steps and removing whatever is the problem, and I also have a pretty old backup that was messed up. I may be able to fix that old backup and then re-do all my changes since then. Yay. One day I will put into motion my plan for revenge against Sally. It will be such sweet revenge.. Anyway, if anyone wants to give a crack at figuring out what the problem is, here's what I know:

-I added scrolling textures but before the "crash time" I can fly up to them and look at them and they work fine so why wouldn't it crash when I looked at it?
-I had this same problem of a "crash time" when I added turrets and a few more vehicle spawns, however, removing them did not solve the problem, I had to revert to my backup. I wonder if I hit some object limit of some sort..
-I feel like going deep into Dagobah and covering trees with explosive napalm charges, then watching everything burn.
-SPTest doesn't implicate anything as a reason for a crash. Jeez.. My life I swear.

----------

Good news: I seem to have fixed the problem
Bad news: I still have no idea what the problem was

I think it was some kind of barrier limit (I have a lot of barriers) because I deleted some barriers I had added before. Now I am going to try to put the scrolling textures back, then maybe I can try adding turrets again since I think it was a barrier problem. So yay, I don't have to do everything over!

----------

The worst thing about working on this Museum is I am constantly reminded of my old friends who I got so close to without ever meeting. So many people are gone now.. I guess thats life.

----------

I think you guys are really going to like this map

It's good to see you sticking at it through the problems. I know I really want to play this. :)

delayed crashes without any sptest error logs are often caused by either a bugged msh, odf, or having surpassed some type of game limit as you mentioned. its hard to pinpoint small bug causes on large maps so it's a good idea to keep backups (at least of the world1 folder) before applying major changes to the map just in case of situations like this. glad to see you got the mod to stop crashing at least.

Yeah, I think it was a barrier limit. But I haven't added any barriers and now it's doing it again. -_- I should get a SWBF version of the purple heart for how many battle wounds i've patched up in this map.

I just checked and I have 288 barriers.. Well, atleast we know the sorta area the barrier limit is at.

------

Alright, I've got a small funny story. So I landed a Y-wing by the Noob camp and left it to make sure they could enter it and one did enter but he was waiting for a buddy to fill the second seat. Well, I noticed a second noob was trying to get to the Y-wing. Well, the 2nd noob ran into a tree on the way there and then went around it, but instead of just going around it straight to the ship, he decided to walk around the enter circumference of the tree about 5 times and then continued on his way to the Y-wing. Why? Because Sally, that's why.

You know how you can have 255 shades of a color digitally? Well apparently lots of limits are set to strange numbers like that.
I've seen a lot of the square numbers used as limits as well, like 256 or 512.. I would try setting it under or at 256 (or 255 I guess..).

You might do a check and see how many barriers a complex map like Cloud City has, (I think you can just check in BAR file, should have a number at the top saying barrier count is equal to something or another), I'd bet none have more than those numbers specified above.

The barrier limit while it no doubt exists is much higher than 288 I think. Stock maps like Yavin have 739 barriers in them. So I really don't think that is the cause of your problem, and if it was SPTest would probably catch it. (Simple error catching, game tries to add a barrier, game realises no more memory available for barriers, game throws exception, game catches exception and reports error to user. At least that is how I would expect it to work, but Sally works in strange ways at times.)

Not such a strange number.  0-255 = 256 options = 2^8

Well, it must be a Sally limit then. She must not have hated Pandemic. Maybe... Maybe they created her to help them make maps and things, and since they went under, she got mad and started cursing modders.  :o its like iRobot

Alright guys, I've finally decided to release what I have of the Museum. It's basically complete except for some smallish things I wanted to add and theres a lot of information that needs to be added to the halls. Maybe one day someone will decide to finish it. The main reason I couldn't is because I can't model too well and my photoshop was uninstalled.  I can't spend anymore time on it because I have to start working on my career in the army since I am starting college this fall. I hope you guys like what has been made so far. It is really a project of the whole community because everyone pitched in a little bit. The map will finally be released in a few days probably. I have to tie a few loose ends. Unfortunately there will not be a Cantina due to the fact that my modeling skills are not up to par and no one else could do it. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it. I put a lot of time and effort into this. I also have a little surprise release to go with it. Keep up with the Released Maps and Mods thread for the next few days!

I'm sorry I couldn't get that vehicle footage in time. I'm just having a heck of a time finding a screen recorder that works on my computer. My video card is a piece of crap and my hard drive is small. I'll probably need to get a new VidCard soon. I'm glad your releasing this to the public, as I greatly enjoyed playing the beta version you gave me an RC. It's great map, even though it has a few bugs. It's to bad you weren't able to finish it though.

I hope you enjoy college and lead a successful life.

Oh, sorry, seems, I was unable to help you, with 3D modeling in time (busy with domestic things).
Hey, if your US NAVY cruiser, will be docking in our bay, you may stop, and say "Hello!" :D

Yeah I'm sorry about that Cantina, I think that was the one you had me working on for a while anyway. That was a while before I started my current map now, and I've learned a lot of little tricks to buildings since then. Best of luck to your endeavors though but if you ever come back and decide to wing it, let me know and maybe I can get some models done for ya, and have'em done right this time.

Nah, its no problem at all. If there's one thing I've learned from SWBF Modding its that sometimes when things mess up youve just got to say "Oh well."  :P Unfortunately, Sereja, I won't be in the Navy. However, I am aiming to eventually be in Army Special Forces so maybe one day soon I will be put in Ukraine "unofficially" to help you guys with the Russians.  ;) And for the cantina, there may actually be one after all. I just made a simple hut bar thing so you all will be dining outside. That should decrease the collision issues.. Time to test it ingame to see.

It'd be cool to have a server set up for the museum once it's done. I'd love to play it with other people and I'm sure it would be more fun that way. :)

Yeah, that would definitely be a good idea.

Also, I added two more Battlefrontians. There's the new Oddbot:
(http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/aatcfett/swbf-20140703-200026_zpsfe8fbb28.png) (http://s414.photobucket.com/user/aatcfett/media/swbf-20140703-200026_zpsfe8fbb28.png.html)
Mainly for serving the human occupants of the Museum.

And the Archive Bot
(http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/aatcfett/swbf-20140703-200151_zpsdd1c079f.png) (http://s414.photobucket.com/user/aatcfett/media/swbf-20140703-200151_zpsdd1c079f.png.html)
Mainly for all technical maintenance of the Museum and the archives.

I made these goofy looking droids in Sketchup for that added touch of coolness.  ::)

There's a room in the museum with all the clans. (at least in beta)

Has anyone found a solution to the crashing yet?

No, the Museum info was the hardest part of the map so I tried to just name all the clans in one room. It still crashes? Great.. I guess I'll get SK to upload my version of the map.
