This is a revision of my Valken-38 weapon model. I looked at screenshots of The Empire Strikes Back and made a realisation: that gun Dengar is holding is NOT a DLT-19, so I did a Google search. Turns out that Dengar is holding an unnamed gun very similar to the Valken-38, but based entirely off the MG-42 instead of what the Valken-38X is based off (the barrel of the MG-34 and the rear end of the FG-42). So I went back and did this to make it more accurate to the weapon Dengar wields in The Empire Strikes Back.

It's not the DLT-19? Then we've all been wrong this entire time?
The years just fly past, don't they?

Yup. Confusing matters is a publicity shot from TESB in which Dengar is holding a DLT-19 but in the film itself, it's this gun instead. This is reflected in the Sideshow Collectibles figure:

I have no recollection of this scene having been in the movie

Yeah, his appearance was pretty much just a cameo and it was essentially 'cut' but he is definitely among the lineup of bounty hunters in that scene. He also cameos in ROTJ but there he's holding an MPL-57 instead.

Here's one of the publicity stills for TESB (with the DLT-19):

Here's the screenshot of the filming for that scene (Dengar is next to IG-88 but the camera stopped before it got to him). It might not be so easy to see but you can see the barrel of an MG-42 instead of an MG-34:

Yeah he's just barely there in the movie. He became a bigger character in the EU. And now in Lego shows and EA SWBF

'Please, tell me more about the logistics of the design of laser swords being wielded by space wizards' - Some guy on the internet.

This ain't Sci-Fi anymore, that thing's straight from WW2, they weren't very creative with this one, lol...  :P

I get strong steampunk vibes from it though...

Well, the DLT-19 was just an MG-34 with a few additional barrel pieces. I read the new "Behind the Helmet" book and a lot of the props were recycled WW2 guns as they were on a budget. The canon version, the Valken-38X, is just the barrel of the MG-42 attached to the handle of an FG-42. I'm guessing given Dengar wasn't seen up close you weren't supposed to see the gun in detail.

So technically the gun ain't canon... Despite being part of the movie...
Your model strongly reminds me of the Blaster Machinegun from Galactic Warfare, I wonder which model they used as a reference... And... I'm staritng to get a bit confused with the names... I also thought it was the DLT-19.

Well, the gun is canon as it should have appeared in film. It's the same case as with the DLT-19 and the DLT-19X - the DLT-19 is the machine gun and the DLT-19X is the sniper rifle modification. As for the name, this one is the Valken-38. Look at it this way: the Valken-38 is based off the MG42 while the DLT-19  is based off the MG34. They're similar at a glance but up close there are obvious differences. In fact the old DC-15X from the original games resembles the MG42 with a scope.

In the promo still and in the 2015 Battlefront title, Dengar wields a DLT-19. In the behind-the-scenes shot above he wields the Valken-38. The 2015 title uses the DLT-19 - probably because of the promo shot, and the fact they had the DLT-19 model already. They did recycle models where possible.
