This weekend is generally considered the biggest weekend in racing, with F1's Monaco Grand Prix, INDYCAR's Indy 500, NASCAR's Coke 600, and the 24 hours of Nurburgring (currently underway).

Is anyone else a fan here, and will you be watching?

There are all sorts of spacefaring civilizations in fiction, from civilizations based around a time in our future, such as Star Trek or Halo, to civilizations that have nothing to do with humanity as we know it, like yes, star wars.

Almost always when we go into space it becomes about war. An alien civilization invades, or a galaxy spanning empire splits apart. Various types of peoples eventually come into conflict.These all come with big differences in both technology and tactics. Who would win in a flat out war?

I'll keep a tally of what people think here. You can talk about entire fictional universes teaming up to fight, but i'm only going to tally specific factions fighting each other. I know it says Star Wars in the title, but this can be any civilizations fighting.

Lets keep it civil as well. I have been on the internet before, and i dont want this thread to devolve into a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Remember everyone is entitled to their own opinions. :)



The only two series i know enough about to make a fairly logical conjecture is Halo and Star Wars, so i'll do that.
I feel like in space the covenant and Empire would probably be fairly closely matched, except in terms of numbers.

I think the UNSC would be able to hold their own however, at least for a little bit, and my main reason for this might seem contradictory: inferior technology.

The UNSC is incredibly stuck on using kinetic weapons. From the massive Magnetic Accelerator Cannons to wimpy pistols, almost all they use for ammo is a chunk of metal.

Imperial Technology is of course, lasers (or plasma or whatever blaster bolts are made out of). Those hurt. They also fight other enemies, who also use the same lasers. The armor of storm troopers represents that. Their armor is made of plastic, and a heat disbursing inner whatch-ya-ma-call-it, that means a blaster bolt is liable to simply knock a trooper unconscious rather than just kill them. It can take shrapnel and maybe small arms fire, but armor strong enough to take a shot from a proper gun such as the standard issue UNSC rifle would be heavy, expensive, or both. Because UNSC rifles have a much faster firing rate, i give advantage to the UNSC, and thats without considering special forces like ODSTs or Spartan IIs. Even Darth Vader can't be much of a help, as his lightsaber cannot deflect a bullet.

Space battles might be a bit different. It all comes down to weather Imperial ships are designed to take heavy hits from projectiles. I can't recall an incident in the imperial era (or any era for that matter) where kinetic weapons were used in space (do proton torpedoes count?). This means the Empire wouldn't have any reason to expect having to take shots from a physical weapon. So a logical focus would be to place emphasis on dealing with energy weapons, and only make the armor thick enough to withstand the typical impacts from space debris, or maybe an asteroid. I would guess a single well places MAC rounds would be all that is needed to destroy an imperial ship, as it only needs to breech the outer hull and then it can shred its way to the reactor. In a small skirmish i predict the Empire would again get their hats handed to them.

Problem being, the Empire has an entire galaxy's worth of resources at their disposal, while the UNSC is confined to a small space in the Orion Arm. And depending on when we put this, the UNSC either isn't on an incredibly war fighting footing, or they have been severely weakened by an all out war with the genocidal Covenant Even the Infinity cannot hope to replace the incredible number of lost ships.

My verdict? Ground battles would fall to the UNSC without a doubt, and in a small skirmish in space the UNSC would again win by landslide, but in terms of all out war, the imperial navy would overwelm the UNSC fleet, and can then just bomb planets from orbit.

Or just use the death star.

the game seems to be crashing because it is "missing level chunks". I dont know what this means, but the issue appears to be w/ every unit, including the ones i never even touched.

AND THEN
it also says the units dont even exist (it says to check the .req file).

This isnt the fault of cis_inf_commander, as i get the issue even when that unit isnt called.

I always thought it strange that the Super Battle Droid was the main infantry unit for the CIS. The backbone of the CIS army was always the B1 Battle Droids.
And how come the heavily armored B2s can only take as much damage as a flimsy B1 anyway?
And how often do you actually see a destroyer droid on the battlefield?
And when have you ever seen a Magnaguard somewhere Grievous is not?

I never saw any mods that fixed this, so i made one myself.

THIS VERSION IS EXPERIMENTAL

It only works on geonosis at the moment.
The idea is to increase the number of the CIS AI, and lower their health accordingly.

Helpful tools made by Phobos and Battlebelk.

CIS_Actual (beta 0.3)

This mod replaces the Super Battle Droid with a standard B1 battledroid.
The SBD is made more powerful and moved to the officer slot.
Takes effect on all ctf, conquest, and XL maps, as well as naboo hunt and Geonosis tutorial.

To install place CIS.lvl in /gamedata/data/_lvl_pc/SIDE, and place mission.lvl in /gamedata/data/_lvl_pc


If the game crashes or the side doesn't work, please let me know!

I am trying to install swbf to my laptop (via usb, not that it should matter). I run the installer and it asked for the cd key. I don't have (or at least don't think i have) the case anymore. Is there a way to get past this step?

Alternatively, can the installer repair an install? (i could find a way to get that to work)

SWBF1 Modding / SPtest doesn't run.

The last time i tried to mod anything for swbf was a few years ago and i know SPtest worked then.

Back then i was on windows 7. Now i am on windows 10, and SPtest does nothing if i try to run it (even in compatibility mode). It doesn't save anything in the log either. I redownloaded SPtest to make sure it wasn't a bad exe or something, and that didn't fix it.

I know swbf 2 had issues, and that there was a way to fix it. Is it a similar situation here?

An unknown entity (potentially a nation-state) launched a series of massive DDoS attacks on DNS servers in the US this morning.

This is worse than attacking some random website because your computer cannot just send an immediate request to swbfgamers.com, it has to send that request to the ip address hosting swbfgamers.com. DNS servers are where that information is collected.

I think there were 3 separate attacks, but it looks to have been resolved.

RIP the internet.

I leave my account logged in on my laptop most of the time.
If i come back to the site and i click on the button that says "Show unread posts since last visit." It doesn't work. Except in the rare time it does. If i were to then click on show all unread posts everything is there.
I haven't noticed a pattern to when it does/doesn't work, and it only happens when i come back while already logged in.
Is this a result of how the site treats staying logged in, or is this a fixable issue?

Once F1 2016 comes out im probably going to buy a controller to play it with. I really liked the Xbox One Controller, so i looked into buying one, and they are really expensive. I had a hard time justifying paying $120 to play a game i feel is already overvalued.

Can i use an xbox one controller with battlefront? What about 360 or steam controllers?
On steam swbfII has "partial controller support", so if i were to launch swbfI through steam (which i already do) would i get a similar result?

I did see one thread that mentioned a thing called JoyToKey. Does that work well?

I remembered seeing a while ago a chatbox/shout box suggestion on the website.
Could there possibly be an IRC Channel?
internet Relay Chat is a way for uses on a network can chat with each other. 
If somebody sets up a channel (I would be willing to do that if needed) than anyone who wishes to chat can connect by use of an IRC client (there are huge numbers of them, even a few on Android and ios).
The channel can be moderated by various people (like the ops on this site,
And spammers can be turned away by making everyone set up a nickserv account (prevents people from stealing your nick, and some channels require you to be registered to speak).

So I had an idea, and I want to start making a Community Newsletter/paper sort of thing.
This would entail sections on

Clan happenings
Mods and Maps
Tournements
Notable leavings and joining of the community
General news affecting the community
easwbf
Interviews with members of the community (important people)

Now this requires a lot of work on my part, (and anyone else who wishes to help, I'll get to that) and I don't want to even try this if there isn't some sort of an interest. So tell me your ideas!

I don't follow the clans, and a rarely up to date with news and other things like that.
If you find something you think is of note, shoot me a PM here! Want to Write something? I want this to represent news from all the community here.

Now you might be asking yourself, what does this have to do with me? By reading this every [insert time here] you will begin to understand what's going on in the other equally bright corners of the community, and increase your awareness of everything. You too can become an esteemed community member, (or at least be involved in it.).

So, Im curious about running a server on my tablet (samsung galaxy note 8.0), using a windows emulator (I hope that's legal)
But I have no idea if it would actually run. So my question is: what are the requirements in terms of ram, and upload/download speeds per player, and is this even possible (probably should have asked that first), and would I have to do anything like port forwarding?

Tech Support / Battlefront and steam

I recently used valves magic button to add battlefront to steam so i could play it from there. but when i went to play games, there was an issue where all the classes were blank (not sure if it was the same for empire, only rebels, as i was playing galactic conquest) the reinforcements numbers were at 1 for each side. i killed a bunch of stormtroopers, and then the empires went up to twelve for a few seconds, then back down to one. i restarted the match and it was fine.
Then came the other yavin map.
i took a speeder across the map to the far imperial cp, and all the troops were still crossing the bridge. but they left the walkers there. from that map onward, no ai would use vehicles unless i told them to get in.
iv only seen the vehicles thing happen once, and only once, and after that match it was fine. but not 3 matches in a row. is this steam or bad luck?

if roses are red and violets are blue then by the commutative property the color blue is actually violet. and what two colors make violet? red and blue, which means that you need red to make violet and since violet is actually blue that means you need red to make blue. but what makes red? the past tense of read. because the word you read more than any other word so far in this equation? blue. you read blue creating violet. and because violet is actually blue, it proves that not only did i just blow you mind, but everything you just red(past tense) actually just blue your mind.

well, this isn't really a tournament, but, whatever.

I would like to see how many people are interested in a competition where people compete to gain points from challenges suggested by the players.
SUBBMISSION
a person, (may or may not be a part of the tourney) would send me a pm detailing what a challenge is, and how many points they think it should be worth (any subbmissions before the first list comes out dont need a point value). A list will be edited periodically (but not regularly) with the challenges, their point values and the creator.

PROOF OF COMPLETION
Proof must be shown of a completed challenge. This can be in any format that is viewable by someone who doesnt have file viewing software on their comp. A video, photo, or .tga file are all acceptable.

RULES
Up to two people can succede in a challenge and get points.
Unless otherwise marked, all challenges require the game to be 100% stock. If it is not, then the ammount of points the challenge is worth will be docked.
points will be kept in a table in the OP.
A person cannot recive points for completing their own challenges.
If a challenge has been on the board for a while, then the ammount of points it is worth may be raised.

I think it would be a good idea to allow the creators of threads to be able to semi-moderate their threads (and only threads that they create) by being able to lock them or delete posts.

Game Dev tycoon is an indie  game that just came out, (its like $8 i think), where you make games as a game developer.
They also put up a version of the pirate bay themselves, but eventually, people start pirating the game, and so your company will have no sales whatsoever. trolololo lololo lololo
Someone make SWBF3 and see how it sells!
