Title: DICE vs Treyarch vs Bungie - SWBF
Post by: Ultimo on January 09, 2015, 08:17:18 AM
I was snooping around and reading some things, so it got me thinking and wanting to ask this question. Who would make a better Star Wars Battlefront? We obviously know who is making it right now, DICE, but what if the famed Call of Duty franchise creators, Treyarch, made the new Battlefront? Or even the great Halo creators, Bungie, made the new Battlefront?

FPS games are all too typical; And these companies I mentioned that make FPS games. However, each of these companies have some very nice differences that set them apart substantially from the others. DICE is creating the new Battlefront, but let's try to anticipate what we would expect from each of these companies if they put out the new Battlefront...

DICE puts a nice balance between the multiplayer and singleplayer aspects of their games. Neither one is very far ahead of the other, and DICE is known a lot more for it's massive warfare, tanks/planes/boats/jeeps and the graphics, but DICE, in a lot of player's and reviewer's opinions, has failed to deliver on a great playing experience in the last few years.

Treyarch is very focused on their multiplayer aspect, and keeping it very suspenseful and fast-paced, to give an exceptional experience to those who enjoy the front to be a little more intense. Treyarch has failed to produce any good campaigns in the past few years, because they are so much more focused on delivering that intense multiplayer. But hey, maybe Treyarch would fix that by adding Stormtrooper Zombies... (Death Troopers)

Bungie, in the past, has also put a nice balance between a multiplayer and singeplayer aspect. Bungie can deliver a good story, and even let you chill and kill in multiplayer for a while. Leave Destiny out of the question, we know Bungie has done an exceptional job with the Halo series over the years, and personally, I think Bungie should've made some sort of deal to make the new Battlefront. Bungie is experienced in the Sci-Fi FPS gaming genres, and their games have proven themselves time and time again to be awesome.

What do you think? I'll stick around a little while to discuss this topic. ;)

Given that the rights were handed to EA (and that EA sucks at porting their games to PC in my experience), I'd think it could be possible to loan the rights to Bungie, but then again, that's what unique about Bungie. They've never really done games based in any popular franchise/series other than their own. So in that light, the odds of Bungie doing a game for a franchise seems highly unlikely.

Treyarch would make a mess of the whole thing, and essentially it would be Call of Duty with a Star Wars skin (not saying that Galactic Warfare was bad or anything). It would be multiplayer-heavy, which is not persay SWBF's strong point. I've always found the singleplayer mode to be entertaining (both with mod maps and when I feel like doing a quick run). In other words, bad idea to give it to Treyarch.

DICE's only major flop in the past few years was Battlefield 4, and even then it was because they released it too early before all the bugs were patched. I don't have high hopes for Hardline either though, but at least with DICE we would be getting something that we know will be good nonetheless. It may not be the game-of-the-year (though that would be awesome if it were), but at least it will be something Battlefrontians and Star Wars fans in general can sink their teeth into.

Even though Bungie and Treyarch are great (Two of my favorite games are Reach and Destiny) I think that DICE would be the best for making BF3. Especially the way they have made Battlefield are similar to Battlefront (Choosing classes, Spawning options, Vehicle use, POVs, etc.) And even though they rushed BF4s release, they've learned their lesson and are postponing Hardline's release just to make sure its bug-free.

You know Battlefield 1942 came first right?

I guess of the three, i much prefer the halo combat style to cod. But i downloaded bf1942 when it came out for free and have enjoyed the game style of that (probably for reasons unit pointed out)
Im just worried about how terrible bf4 release was, and what effect that could have now on swbf3 when they were tied up with the last game(unless two different studios). Still the game sucked when first came out because was so rushed, which could push away players from the game.

As long as i get a "real game" and not some half assed movie based gane like a lot of movie based games we see

What flavor is the "Call of Duty campaigns aren't good" Kool-Aid?

I definitely feel DICE has what it takes to make the new battlefront, however that being said, this will be new territory for them so who knows. I have my worries, suspicions, etc, but I do have faith DICE will deliver. I would rather them then Treyarch anyday. Maybe infinity ward? They did a lot better with the Call of Duty series.

Well, after Modern Warfare 3, which was ridiculous in my own opinion, I kinda dropped my like for Infinity Ward.

But hey, at least it's not Nintendo trying to break into the FPS realm. ;)
