General / Help: Learning how to use Xcode
February 23, 2014, 08:11:46 AM
I'm looking to teach myself how to write basic iPhone applications with Xcode. Where do I start? Are there any good tutorials for Xcode beginners?

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Edited for grammar.

Welcome Center / I'm baccckkkk!
February 13, 2014, 02:28:06 PM
Hello!  :cheer:

Back again, kind of lurking.

I fired up the ol' SWBF on my old PowerPC Mac and found that hey, I'm not THAT rusty. I'd love to play some multiplayer if there are enough people around.

For those who don't know me, I've been around on and off since 2008 when the MacXgamers and Weili was the host. Wow, how times have changed.

Hit me up if you want to play. I'm pretty sure my router is still port forwarded so I can host DC.

Cheers!

Mac

EDIT: Ps found my old signature and avatar on my photobucket. booya.

So Assassin's Creed Two has become available for download on Steam for Mac users! I'm so excited, but I have a question about whether my Macbook can run the darn game.

Here are my specs:

2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM
256 MB VRAM NVIDIA GeForce 9400M

Now, here are the minimum requirements listed on Steam:

Intel Core® 2 Duo 3.06 GHz
3 GB RAM
256 MB Dedicated Shader model 3.0 or higher

So my question is, could my computer technically chug along in Assassin's Creed 2, or would I need to upgrade my specs in order to run Assassin's Creed 2?

Other Games / Ermm, help? (Age problem)
December 04, 2010, 09:59:17 PM
Hi guys. So I was checking out Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on Steam and of course it asks me to enter my birthday. So, me being the idiot I am, entered my real birthday which happens to place me at 16 years of age. So, now steam won't let me even look at some of the games I want to look at it. Is there any way to go in and change my birthday or am I stuck with the one I entered?

Tech Support / Odd Hard Drive Partition / Warning
January 13, 2010, 01:46:27 PM
Hello MPC,

I recently encountered a problem with my computer, not really severe, yet a little bothersome. I've been hacking my computer, about 10 times to be exact, with the old:

/sbin/mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.applesetupdone

I'd then just delete them after I'd typed in the administrator's password to install something. For those who don't know, I'm not the admin on my MacBook.

Yesterday I realized how slowly my computer was loading up. I thought it was some kind of software damage or possibly a virus. I plugged in a Leopard CD, one that came with another MacBook, but my MacBook spit it out after about 30 seconds. I put it in again and it stayed.

This had happened with another CD, Ford Racing 2, but in that case the CD had actually gotten stuck for a bit. So, summary, my computer's rejecting some CDs. I guess they aren't appealing enough.

I restarted my MacBook with the Leopard CD in it and pressed C. My computer started refused to boot from the CD. So I restarted, held down option as I started up and selected the Leopard CD to boot from. My computer started to boot but just restarted over and over and over. I cut the power, then started up and logged in.

I went into disk utility, and saw this:

and in more detail, this:

disk0s1 could not be mounted, erased, verified, or anything of the likes.  I was starting to get pissed off, since I knew my computer was messed up. I tried erasing the whole TOSHIBA hard drive, but it wouldn't allow me since disk0s1 was unmounted. I then popped in the Leopard CD and clicked on it, and clicked "Install Mac OS X." My computer restarted, but did the same thing as before.

So, I powered off and back on. I logged in, and poof! disk0s1 was gone! Does anyone have any ideas as to how this 200 MB partition could have been created by accident?

So, moral of this post. Don't abuse the administrator's hack on your computer! I think if overused, it can hurt your hard drive. My computer's booting up slower and is doing some funky things. I learned my lesson, don't learn yours.

Hey MPC

I'm searching for a FLV to M4V video converter for Mac that doesn't cost me any money. I've done my share of looking for them, downloading at least 6 or 7 but they're all flunks or watermarked etc. I'm calling on you guys and girls to help me out with my problem. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Tech Support / Parallels Idea (Solved)
March 10, 2009, 02:22:47 PM
So I saw this thing for Windows 7 Beta where people can download it from Microsoft and try it. Can I download Windows 7 Beta off the internet and run it in Parallels, or will Parallels not run Windows 7 Beta?

Thanks,

Mac

Hey guys,

So I was thinking today after playing a game of SWBF by myself, is muscle memory involved? Like, when I was a sniper in regular multiplayer games and people jumped behind me, I'd swivel around and hit them dead on with a sniper shot. Is this just plain luck or muscle memory?

Is using the WASD keys muscle memory to walk around? Or how about jumping when hearing the sound of a rocket coming from behind? Is this muscle memory, or something else?

Tech Support / Transferring Gameranger Account (Solved)
February 12, 2009, 02:09:56 PM
The title says it all. I'm getting a new computer today. For those who wonder what the specs are, they're:

4 gigs RAM
160 gig HD
256 Vram
video card: GeForce something 9600

Okay, but basically, can someone remind me how to transfer my Gameranger account to my new Mac?
#15
Well, I was hosting in T.1 today and we had cor1 as a map. It was hard to play since everyone was falling into glitches etc. As all you modders know, there are tons of collision problems in there, making it a very hard map to play in. Can a modder (or two) take on this arduous task of fixing nearly all the collision problems? That would make this map so much better and played much more!

I'm merely requesting a dedicated modder pick this up and fix this map up so its glitches can be fixed!

Thanks,

Mac

Server is offline

Hey MPC,

Since I seem to be getting asked to host a direct connection a lot of the time, I thought I'd try to host a weekday direction connection around 5 PM EST until 9 PM EST. I'll update this post everyday with the date, new maps, and the times that they server will be up. At the top you can see that I wrote "Server is offline." When it says, "Server is online," then it is online. If for some reason you cannot connect, please tell me. I might have to re-port forward since my local IPs change a lot.

I will keep this post updated with the date, maps and IP if that ever changes. Also, there might be bots, but only a maximum of 4.

Too make things less laggy for you guys I'll be hosting a dedicated server, so I'm not playing from the host computer and I can use my own computer without causing you guys extreme lag and spikes. Though, I lag sometimes since my whole internet is clogged up with your traffic. <_<

Note, I can't assure you that my parents or siblings won't quit the server. They have done that before. If the server suddenly shuts down, find me on Gameranger, MPCgamers, or AIM.

This only happens on my computer for some reason. Travian and Firefox work fine on my mom's computer. Check it out.
